Hobie Island Continuous Loop Sheeting System

Спорт

If you own a Hobie Island with the supplied two-system sheeting-furling system, this video details a vastly superior way to set things up.

I do like this continuous loop idea, but I have some unclarity on how to make it actually happen. As the sheet and furling lines are tied together, how does that knot get managed so that it can pass through the fairleads? It seems like that cannot happen, so is there enough surplus line so that the knot doesn't need to move through? That seems to imply that the fairlead placement will be key. Please explain.

I understand your question as I had the same until I looked. Only the sheet “side” runs through the block. As long as your sheet line is long enough to pass the rear horn cleat you’re good. I will put 2 blocks in forward to control the lines on top of the crossbeam as we sometimes use a dodger.

Thanks for the vid Tom. It seems that with the horn cleat, or any other cleat for that matter, if the front sailor has cleated the line in the front seat and then moves over to a tramp or haka, then one or the other sailor will have to move to that cleat in order to change the sail trim, correct? If that's the case, then I'm not understanding the advantages, so please explain.

If the sailor in the front seat has the mainsheet cleated and is planning to leave his or her seat, I'd hope that that he or she would mention this to the sailor in the back seat... Otherwise, the single line continuous loop system means that the mainsheet and furling line are always together. If you have hold of one you have hold of the other as well. No hunting or looking for the tail end of a different line.

@@rodmakermagazine7117 Agreed, that is a good advantage -- presently, I have to coordinate sail take-up with the other sailor, although I find that the conditions don't frequently change so dramatically to require such major sail tuning, but maybe I'm just not dialed into my TI yet.
