I like that after the basic house structure was done on day 3 or so it was just a sequence of him making things he thinks seem convenient or nice looking; very hobbitlike. Spending a week to make a comfy outdoor breakfast nook to eat your homemade jam pastries is also a hobbit thing to do haha.

For wintertime you could doub the walls with the claymixture that you used for the fireplace and then cover with white "paint", maybe something like chalk. White really reflects heat and light so the hobbithole would be warmer and more light without having more lights on when door is closed for heath preservation. Greetings from the Netherlands!

Simply from the color of the mixture i can tell that he used some amount of cement and i think it's fine but he could have disclosed that. I wouldn't judge. In old days people used clay to build fireplaces and earlier they build burning altars or simple bonfire in the middle of dwellings.

@@Marine5D Look at the video starting at 8 to 8:24 minutes to see what color the dirt is in the area. I'm not sure where this video was filmed but pure clay minerals do exist in light colors and some are a beige color, depends on the country and region. Sandy Loam has a lighter color. If he mixed cement then ask him via email on his page. click on his name, then About to see email link. Could he add limestone and sand to get a cement like strength, sure but its worth knowing since he's teaching with silent videos.

"In a hole in the ground there lived a Hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell. Nor yet, a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit on or to eat. It was a hobbit hole, and that means comfort." Nice try, though. And definitely a good sturdy shelter. It gets a thumbs up from me. In 1972 a friend and I were snowmobiling up the Chena river in Alaska one winter and came across a fellow who had a hunting camp set up a lot like this one. The door was normal instead of round was about the only difference. My friend and I built something similar at our favorite fishing/camping spot. Not as tidy and we were constantly having to make repairs, but we were only 12.

Sure, just make sure there is a black hobbit coming out of the building , to remind you that black folks actually exist. I have seen American " historical channels" who pretend to live like they used to in 1800s and there are no blacks in those videos. So I know how much people like to live in a fantasy land. You must constantly be reminded that blacks actually exist in the USA

This is a very cool hut and yes a round door but a hobbit home had many rooms. This was built over a long time you can see in the clothes he wore and change in seasons it was done in many visits based on the back pack coming and going and bringing more items. Last alot of the wood was milled like planks and the round disk. BUT THIS IS VERY GOOD AND WOULD LOVE TO SEE IT GOOD JOB
