See our fuel optimizer settings. • HMF YFZ450R Competitio...
To maximize the potential of our stock YFZ450R, we turned to the exhaust specialists at HMF. Their competition series exhaust is available as a slip-on silencer only, or with their stainless steel head pipe. Replacing the restrictive and heavier stock silencer yields the largest gains in power. Adding a head pipe often yields a bit more horsepower on stock engines, becoming even more important as you add a higher compression piston, cams, or other internal motor mods. As power hungry individuals, we opted to try the full Competition Series exhaust.
HMF’s Fuel Optimizer, manufactured by Dobeck, comes with a map pre-installed to work with HMF’s exhausts and the airbox lid removed. It features a decent range of on-board tune-ability, allowing you to dial in the amount of fuel injected on a scale of 1 to 8, at different RPM ranges.
A good aftermarket exhaust system and revised fuel map are essential for getting all the available power out of a modern, fuel-injected, sport ATV engine. We believe the performance of HMF’s Competition Series Exhaust and user-friendly, on-board adjustability of their Fuel Optimizer, really let us tap into the full potential Yamaha built into the YFZ450R’s engine. Its improved low-end performance and broad power band, with gains in performance throughout, substantially improve the race-ability of the YFZ450R for beginners and advanced racers alike.
The quiet core option and substantially enhanced low-end performance make this setup a great option for trail riders looking to improve performance with minimal effect on sound output. Of course, if you are like us and can benefit from more power one weekend and less sound the next, HMF seemingly designed the Competition Series Exhaust for you, and on the YfZ450R, it exceeded our expectations.

    I just purchased a new 2016 yfz450r and watched your Budget MX racer test video and noticed that you used the PCV and GYTR slip on, I am looking to purchase a GYTR full exhaust, their billet adpater plate and high flow filter. I am wondering if the bog issue was better or worse with the HMF tuner and exhaust? It is actually sad how bad the stock bog is on an injected bike. I have always been a Honda guy but just a little tired of them selling 12 year old bikes for the same price today. I have ordered the AIS but I want to get my exhaust, intake, and tuner setup right the first time. Thank you!

    To get rid of the maximum amount of low-end hesitation you will need a modern map for the PCV. If you run a map tuned for the pre 2014 model it will not add sufficient fuel to the lower-end. You can extensively tune the map with a laptop computer, which we did not do. We found a map that got it close, but not quite perfect. Dan Lamey from DASA and the guys at Moto X Perts both have maps for the latest version of the YFZ450R that they say run quite good off the bottom. With its on-board tuning we had better luck getting rid of our YFZR's hesitation off idle with the HMF Fuel Optimizer although we had its low-end fuel capabilities maxed out. The range of the Optimizer's external adjust-ability is limited compared to that of the PCV with a laptop computer attached to it which will let you tune to the limits of your fuel injector. We plan on sending our Optimizer to Dobeck to have additional fuel added to its internal base map. Hope this helps.

  • @ATVonDemand

    @ATVonDemand

    4 жыл бұрын

    The The Competition series has a triangular core that HMF says enhances low-end and midrange power . It also comes with three different inserts allowing you to quiet down the exhaust or open it up for maximum power. You can also add a quiet insert to a performance series exhaust and the Performance Series also allows for a ton of different color options to match your ATV. We used a Performance Series Exhaust on our TRX250X project. Here is a link to a page on their site that explains the different series HMF offers. www.hmfracing.com/series

    +Jake Sand HMF lists a Competition Series exhaust for the Warrior/Raptor 350 on their website www.hmfracing.com/. They also offer a Performance series with some very cool color options, jet kits, and filters. A pipe, jet kit, and drilling some holes in your air box lid would yield a nice gain in performance for your Warrior. A helpful hint from a former Warrior/Raptor 350 owner, install a Pro Design Pro Flow intake kit with a dual stage foam filter. the stock airbox/filter setup doesn't seal reliably.

    +Frank Martino If your running the largest insert in the exhaust and your optimizer is well dialed, a Fuel Custom's intake is said to deliver another three horsepower www.fuelcustoms.com/. There's not another external bolt-on we're aware of that will make a significant difference. They have a money back guarantee as well. From there, you'r going to have to dig into the engine. Compression is pretty low on the Raptor, especially the pre-2015 models. Even the 2015's could still use premium pump gas, even with a big bump in compression. A higher compression piston wont change the power delivery, it will just boost power and torque across the current spread of power. It will help torque. A different cam can boost power across the board, or in a particular part of the RPM range.. A good motor builder can suggest the right piston and cam to suit your type of riding and fuel needs. From there, head porting and valve work will farther improve the power you've started building. Of-course, we haven''t even touched on big bore and stroker kits. Good luck and please tell us how it turns our. We will be doing a few very cool Raptor projects over the summer, so you might want to subscribe. Thanks for watching.

  • @ATVonDemand

    @ATVonDemand

    Жыл бұрын

    The HMF tuner comes pre programmed for the exhaust. We did some tuning with the on board. Tuning feature and made it even better than the tune that HMF sent it with. We did not use a dino we just tuned it seat of the pants. If you just install the tuner as it comes, your bike will run pretty well, but you will eliminate more of the low inhesitation With a little fine tuning. If you are looking for a turnkey setup PEP tuning can reflash your stock ECU for around the same price as an after market tuner. If you are planning on going with a high compression piston and a bigger cam, you might want to stick with an after market tuner But expect to do more tuning. If you're just going to do a pipe and maybe an intake you might want to just get your ECU reflashed. PEP tuning has a facebook page where you can find their phone number if you are interested. We also did a big three test with an exhaust comma fuel customs intake comma and a PEP stock ECU reflash If you would like to learn more about it. kzread.info/dash/bejne/qp15upWcqL3JnNY.html The vortex e c u is the ultimate tuning upgrade that will make the YFZ450R run the best. However comma it is a little more complicated. Having it tuned is the most difficult of all because of the software that tuners have to use. Tuners are a little harder to come by. And it is typically a little more expensive than having a tune done with an after market. Fuel tuner like the HMF or Dynojet. I know we threw a lot at you, so if you have any follow up questions, please don't hesitate to ask. We would rather help you spend your money, right? The HMF tuner might be the best setup for you.

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Luis Antonio Salas We just wrapped up testing a 2016 YFZ450R and Raptor 700R. Both machines run nearly perfectly but both are lean right off idle. We notice a slight hesitation right off idle if we crack the throttle when were sitting still. Also, putting around under 5 miles an hour at idle, we had the engine flare out a couple of times when we stabbed the gas. We didn't have any problems with these machines riding normally. We are confident that adding a power commander, "with a well written fuel map" will make either machine run even better, but you don't "need" a fuel module to ride with your stock exhaust and airbox lid on. However, the YFZR or Raptor would benefit from a little more fuel right off idle. This is no different than when Motocross Action Magazine used to rejet carburetor equipped dirt bikes back in the day to dial them in stock. If you are going to buy a Power Commander for your stock 2014, buy one from a motor builder who tests with these machines constantly. Then you can get them to help you with your fuel map. People are running into a bigger bog issue with they add an exhaust to a newer model machine. Over the past three model years or so, manufacturers, not just Yamaha, have been forced to run their ATVs super lean off idle to meet more stringent emission standards. One issue people are running into, that we experienced with both our HMF Fuel Optimizer, and a Power Commander V from Yamaha's GYTR catalog, is that their maps were written for the pre-2014 model which was not at lean off the bottom. When you add a pipe and remove the airbox lid on a post 2014 model, old fuel maps just aren't rich enough at lower RPMs, and the real bogging begins. Motor building guru Dan Lamey from Dasa Racing tells us that each year of the YFZ450R requires a different fuel map to counteract Yamaha's tuning to meet emissions to run properly with a pipe and no airbox lid. The bottom line, If you want a YFZ450R, or a Raptor 700R feel free to purchase either one. If you are going to modify it ,or simply want to optimize its performance, a fuel module with a well written map will help. The wrong map, like the wrong jets in a carburetor wont run well. We will be releasing test videos of the 2016 YFZ450R and Raptor 700R in the coming couple of weeks. Later this Summer we will be doing a head to head track and trail comparison between the two machines. Subscribe to check them out. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to hit us back. You can message us on Facebook if you want to correspond directly. Now go buy a new quad, we wish we could.

    +Fox250R That's what one top motor builder is saying, However, Dasa, Moto X Perts, Fuel Customs Intakes, and several other respected motor builders we've spoken with all say that you can get rid of the hesitation with a properly tuned fuel map. According to Dan Lamey at Dasa,, "Each year of the YFZ450R requires a different fuel map to work properly." So unless you have the exact same year and exhaust a map was written for, it may not work properly. Dasa could sell us a Vortex just as easily as a less expensive Power Commander. They tell us the Vortex is not mandatory for achieving a smooth hesitation free power curve.

Maybe you are super sensitive pro rider who could detect something we didn't, but compared to stock and our other testing the problem was cured as far as we were concerned. It seems that the YFZR is very lean off the bottom, which no doubt helps with emissions but leaves it starving for fuel.
