Could you please do a breakdown of Ken Griffey Jr’s swing? I’m real curious what he did right and wrong (if anything). It’s known as the sweetest swing ever in baseball.

This guys swing BS is a joke. Why release the barrel so quick? How will you possibly hold up in an off speed pitch or breaking ball? Unless you know for sure a fastball is coming why commit so quickly? And the best hitters ARE NOT doing this at all. Altuve, Trout, etc do not swing like this. They have old school swing mechanics and they all hit for power and average. This is a slap swing if anything

The ball is launching slightly too steep 39-44 degrees. I think because my back side is collapsing too hard. Thanks teach. You’re the man!!

Don’t use this crap in baseball and especially in slow pitch. I’ve played both and now only slow pitch. Drive off your back leg and use your body like hitters have been doing for decades. Stop buying into this new school garbage that these “ gurus “ teach to get views and make money. Every time he demonstrates this “swing” he falls off balance.

I’ve got a 7 year old and I just start with this step 1. Simply work on the wrist flip and bending over. Get a tee in front of them and have them repeat repeat repeat. I start every hitting practice with the tee to get him thinking about the wrist flip to start the body. His front foot is barely on the ground, just a toe to keep the weight on the back leg.

It’s hard to tech anything to 10u’s 😂. You just have to get them 1 on one and do different drills with them on the tee and flips to try and coax the concepts out of them. It’s hard to explain the concepts and then have them execute. It’s kind of a just do this sort of thing that eventually gets them there… this is from working with my own 10us currently.

1:10 - anatomically/bio mechanically correct? It depends on what you are trying to do. If you want weak, rotary motion, around the top hand forearm, this move could be useful. Or, if you want to have a check swing and inhibit top hand pronation (which all the greats have), this move is for you. Lastly, if you are seeking to eliminate the significant barrel acceleration that comes with top hand pronation, this move might be useful. Look at any great hitter….none do this, including Judge. Unless you are looking for perpetual, weak, check swings.

@@mattyoungliveWhat is the goal, here? To not be offended or discuss swing mechanics? This year, Aaron Judge strikes out 3 times out of 10. Supposedly, he is a disciple of HLP/Teacherman. Is this what you mean by the swing working at every level? Is it not important to discuss the good and the bad of swing instruction, so we can produce the best results from youth to higher level baseball? If that’s the goal, shouldn’t we analyze what the greatest hitters of all time have done? Bonds, Griffey Jr., Pujols, Aaron, Ruth, Williams, etc. None of them had a herky jerky snap or rotary bat dump. Isn’t this important to recognize? Teacherman does identify some things that are important….avoiding merry go round swings, lunging to front foot, not swing/chop down, etc. But I don’t believe these are epidemic swing issues. And to market a rotary snap as the movement a hitter should be doing everyday (and how 99% of the rest of the swing teachers get it wrong) is a highly questionable “red flag”.

This guy makes us think that he knows everything about becoming a great hitter. He doesnt. To become a great hitter you need more than just mechanics. The thing is though Aaron judge doesn’t swing like this. If you watch any super slow motion of Judge’s swing his hands/wrist doesn’t do this movement until the moment before contact. He loads, then his front foot touches, then his hips open, then his wrists pull the barrel forward. Maybe Hitterman is just emphasizing this move for effect… but it doesn’t seem natural and judge doesn’t do this.
