Congratulations on your engagement, on the new kitty members of the family and the upcoming release of your First Cardigan (why did I think it was already released, I thought, and then realized I was thinking of the First Sweater- lol). Very ambitious knitting a dress, but it sounds and looks wonderful and with Rowan providing the yarn and pattern, how could you not? I am taking a break from Clue 4 of the Stephen West MKAL and I am madly knitting the last sleeve of a little sweater co-designed with my five year old granddaughter for her quickly upcoming 6th birthday. We needed teal and turquoise and brown colours and bears and bunnies and hearts, so thanks to Maxim Cyr (for the bears) Andrea Mowry (Bean and Olive for the hearts), a random Pinterest graph for the bunnies, and Tin Can Knits Strange Brew for how to creat our own sweater. It has been fun- lots of errors, but knit in Knit Picks Swish DK, which is an ever so soft (and budget friendly yarn- even with the exchange on the US to Canadian dollar) superwash merino. I hope it fits and that she loves it- we live on the opposite sides of the country ( if you know Canada- Kamloops, BC to our capital in Ottawa, Ontario is a long distance, so I am going on the measurements I took when I last visited. Your new hat pattern looks intriguing. There are lots of different ways to decrease. Andrea Mowry has a brioche hat pattern that might provide some ideas on how to reduce in half fisherman’s rib. I am sure you will figure it out.

It's no wonder Rowan contacted you to knit one of their designs...your knitting is so incredibly even and beautiful! I envy your skill. (In the nicest way, of course.;) And I do look forward to your pattern release. It's totally stylish yet classic. Glad I stumbled onto your episode; really enjoyed it.

Hi Lizzie! Thank you so much for the new episode. I really enjoy following your fiber adventures. Congrats on adopting two furry-tailed ones in your household. Not entirely sure what it will en-TAIL for your yarn stash! :) As for the hat pattern, my guess is that, if you were to place two of the decrease lines in the middle of the stockinette sections, you would also have to move the other two and have them sit right in the middle of the rib sections, which would make it really challenging to do the decreases without breaking the stitch pattern. The hat as it is now might look uneven and ridgy at the crown because the two stitch patterns have very different tension and elasticity. But I'd say it really doesn't matter as long as it looks good when worn. Or what S E Wilhite says in their comment: how about using the rib for the cuff and making it all stockinette for the crown? Also, I second your idea to cast on fewer stitches to have it sit more tightly on the head. In fact, a good 10-20% of negative ease works best for hats, from my experience.

Hi Lizzie, I really love the cardigan and all the things you are making. Here’s a working mum of four, so I very much appreciate your time spent on doing these videos. Fun thing, we have a young cat new in the family, too. I know exactly what kind of mess they usually do to a former organized house, haha! Our darling is a boy and called Remy, just like the rat in Ratatouille. But we love him so much, I’m really looking forward to some cat content in your videos in the future! Have a great day and don’t worry about making less videos, it’s just how life goes…

That Knitting For Olive slate green is so much more lovely in person: I have recently finished the women's version of the Zipper Sweater, and it is my favourite sweater. The slate green is so rich and subtly varied, a really luxurious look. I have diarised to keep checking for your First Cardigan, it is super, love the proportions, balloon sleeves and drape.

Hi Lizzie, glad you are back :). Regarding your first hat: actually my first thought was, maybe you could go more towards the 'Manhattan Hat' (Tori Knits) crown direction. More precisely, not a perfectly round shape, but a bit more elongated. That way, the different stitch patterns would be highlighted even a bit more and it would simplify the placement of your decrease lines. Just a first thought, though!!! Nevertheless, I think the decrease line should work out anyway, if you add the negative ease.

Congratulations Lizzie on your engagement & the publishing of your pattern. I love the design of both the sweater and cardigan! Looks like a really good start on the hat as well. My thought on the hat design is the decreases are happening to quickly for the circumference. I am working on a Sophie scarf before tackling a WIP from a year ago.

It’s great to see you again. I’m working on my husband’s Single Malt in dark green as I watch 😄. It’s taking me forever, partly because it’s a man’s sweater, as you pointed out, and also because I tried to alter the circumference of the body. When I did that, I messed up the stitch pattern. It was a mess for a while, but I’m finally back on track! Keep going with the hat. I’m not an experienced hat knitter, but it seems to me that re-knitting with negative ease will solve the bulk issue. It will be lovely, and a design all your own, I might add. Sounds like life is going very well for you. Best wishes!

Congrats on your enagement. I was just saying there hasn't been an podcast episode in a while, so excited to see this. I have been working on a cardigan for my mom for her birthday/Christmas. She knows about it and so far it fits her well and suits her so well. I love the single malt in that color. I wonder if maybe trying a top down version of the first hat might work, so increases instead of decreases, my decreases always look messier than my increases. Maybe try increases similar to the first sweater/cardigan? Loved this episode, so excited to see your back.

I love the hat so far. I wonder if you take out one each of the sections (just two each instead of three) and keep everything else the same. Alternatively maybe just keep one section of the half fisherman’s rib. That may help cinch it in a bit. I look forward to your progress. Also such cute kitties😺😺

Congratulations on your engagement and the arrival of your kittens 😊 Love the First Cardigan. Re the hat- the fisherman’s rib section didn’t seem as wide as the stocking st section. Possibly because the eye is drawn to the st-st on the cuff? Maybe it should start in fisherman’s rib rather than st-st? Just a thought. Love your podcast and designs 😊
