    Since I started playing a couple of months ago I've come to realise every now and then I'll come across a video where it's like I have a 'Eureka' moment, and I find what I've been doing wrong and what clicks. The whole 'not firing your right hip forward' and 'pulling the left hip back' is that moment for me. Great video, thanks

    Excellent as always! Stating it as “pulling the left side back” is a great way of putting it and was a “click” moment for me on understanding. My coach and I have been working on this move and it is definitely a tough change to make.

    Demonstrating the link between moves away from the ball and how it shapes the transition and approach to the ball was masterful. It will be a bit of teaching I will refer to and use over and over. It's very fundamental and shockingly comprehensive, thanks a million.

    Brilliant stuff mate. Thanks for that. There's definitely a point in which every intermediate golfer discovers that they don't really understand the sequence of a downswing. I fully feel at this stage! Thanks for the explanation and drills... I'll be trying these out for sure!

    The instructor visualizes the building or charging the body from the ground up - Storing that energy onto the right side for the transition - The driver face illustration speaks for itself. Simply put - The door is attached to and gets its energy from the hinge. You can’t properly shut a door with a broken hinge. Thanks again for the visuals and to the student.

    I apologize for misrepresenting the hinge movement. Its not a spinning motion 💡

    Hi Russell, regarding your first point, as an exercise, my pro once taught me to almost stand up straight at address and then bend the trail leg in the backswing. This teaches the feel for turning the hip in the right way as well as creating the correct flex/bend and pressure into the ground. Great point for driver!

    Russell, you can't see my head nodding in agreement. I see myself in rotating hips ... shots are erratic but enough success to keep doing it. When I keep my head back and release the hips ... ahhhhh ... nice long, straight fairway finders. I'm heading out to the driving range to practice just this!!! Thank you.

    This is really good. Thanks for the driver lesson. I was out playing a late round yesterday and also noticed the head thing on driver and also on the the fairway woods as well. I’m quickly starting to realize that I only want to follow you and get rid of all the other noise on KZread!!!!

    I've been feeling this move lately and try to load that trail heel and hip for the feel you are talking about. If I slow down my tempo, the result is usually a good fairway finder.

    No matter how much I practice staying back behind the ball and hitting inside out, when it comes to actually hitting I come so far over the top. Hopefully I'm just out of sequence and moving the left hip back helps.

    Keeping your head leaning back as you pull the lead side back during transition is key to creating a lot of space for the arms to swing through as you point out. . Like most amateurs this has proved difficult for me at first but at least I know what to work on and what I was doing wrong with a steep and narrow downswing and why it was happening. My head moved incorrectly at start of the downswing because of my spinning out with my right hip and not pulling my lead side back to start the down swing with a driver.. Excellent video. In previous videos, you often spoke of turning the belt buckle down and forward over lead ankle to start the down swing particularly with irons. Keeping the head back and not moving the head down and forward along with the belt buckle is difficult. How does one pull the lead side back and at the same time get the belt buckle to point down and forward without the head moving forward? Is there not a contradiction here? What am I missing?

    The reason I don’t use downward facing as often is I felt it caused more of a spinny action which would make it hard to keep the head still

    I think this may be my problem,I can actually visualize my weak shots and there is too much forward movement with my head,I'll be sure to try this drill out next time

    So how does this work if you have all of your lumbar vertebrae fused together and the range of motion is limited? I'm 6' 4" 235 and can hit my drive 220- 230 yards, but I feel I can do better and be more consistent

  • @russellheritagegolf

    @russellheritagegolf

    The fusion will mean you’ll need to move everything together in the downswing. Maybe you could get more distance by speeding up your arms

    I guess that's why my best shots are when I try to get the weight in my lead heel on the downswing. Same sensation as pulling the lead glute back.
