Taeyeon was really sick during the KBS Gayo Deju. She tried her best and it is rlly hard to sing 3 songs when you are really sick and thats not even including the dance for Mr.Mr. Plus it was their first domestic performance without Jessica. If you guys actually lost a close friend of yours then you would understand the pain to stand on a stage that you have been on for 7 years without her.

They gave Taeyeon The One's part and then since the male is made to do the higher more difficult lines (at least in the original song) Hwanhee had to basically scream his lines. Turns out he had to do a lot of schedules so I can understand and don't expect him to be as good as The One.

Linh Billy you should check Tae's performance with Chen then. She was fine with high notes even if she's sick. It's just because she needs to support Hwanhee they swap roles.

Hwanhee voice is similar to The One (the original singer of this song) but he couldnt reach the hight note, his voice cracked and was shaky at some points, Taeng lowered her tone to support him (if she sang higher, he had to sing higher), she was so humble and considerate.. She would be more comfortable and sang louder if she sang like the original ver. This is just my own assumption :D btw, The one's voice is really unbeatable. TY is always humble( i mean she sing softer not powerful as usual) when she sing duet with her sunbaes and people still call her "arrogant" "cocky" "selfish" == aigoo, she's hurted too much, leave her alone Excuse my english

I REALLY AGREE WITH YOU. I can hear how Tae tried hard to support him by lowering her voice while in the original version she sang it at higher note. She didn't have problem singing high notes in Breath just now with Chen, so it means she could've done this song casually like she always does. The problem that it wouldn't match her partner's. She was sooo considerate towards him.

@@Siva88824 oh yes, my mistake to missed her comment. but what she said is true, hwanhee is mostly sing high note, but in this performance he could not reach the high notes. there are so many reason why he cracked, first he did not do vocal warming, second maybe he not familiar with the song so he try to look at the lyric often. A4 is her upper note for mixed, he generally can reach that note eventough strained and pushing.

I think Like a star of The One and Taeyeon is the best

Gotta match power with power. Hwanhee and someone like Ailee has a powerful voice would work better. Taeyeon's voice is too soft

This is her song(with The One), though :\ I thought they both did pretty well. I agree that their voices does not compliment each other's well in this video. Taeyeon sang in the pitch she originally used for the song. Hwanhee sang in the pitch that he knew how to. I apologize if this sounded harsher than intended, just in case it gets taken that way... I just felt like it was unnecessary to throw Taeyeon away from her own song just because her voice didn't match his.

I was just about to say the same thing! I think his voice fits better with Ailee's or someone who can really belt it out. Taeyeon's voice is powerful in a different way, sort of like IU's softer style.

Tae tried to blend her voice with Hwanhee in duet part but Hwanhee just make it for his own style without blending with Tae's voice. He should let Tae sing alone in her part Love both. Hwanhee is so good on stage :D

For crying out loud, stop bashing Hwanhee. He's one of the best singers of his generation. We've all seen him hit that amazing high note near the end of "You You You." He could be sick for all we know--Fly to the Sky has been on tour recently so his voice could be worn out. Also, it's not like he had much time to rehearse "Like A Star"--the networks often organize these "special performances" at the last minute. All this being said, Taeyeon & the One's recording is a classic, so I was happy to see her perform a live version (with or without her former teacher).

Actually taeyeon did a better job than the other singer he was sometimes off notes his voice cracked

taeyeon actually sounds great during like a star but whenever hwanhee sings his part, ty seemed so cautious & tried her best to blend w/ him

I see a lot of people arguing over who did worse. Instead maybe we should just appreciate the performance, which I thought was acceptable. For the sake of arguing, Hwanhee is an excellent singer but due to a really tight schedule (including a three day concert), his voice was strained and could not perform to the best of his abilities. These high notes normally would be really easy for him, as in some other performances, he sings even higher notes with relative ease. In Taeyeon's case, I can definitely see that she is trying to blend to hwanhee's loud and rough voice by using a softer voice. People can argue and I agree to an extent that she may be too tired to sing due to many performances she had and, consequently, could not put in as much effort as we wanted to see. But its only one performance and cut these guys some slack, they sing everyday and some days they sing excellent, other days they struggle, that's life. All in all, props to both these talented singers as I know Hwanhee is a fan of Taeyeon and wanted to have a duet with her for a long time. Hopefully, they have another one and are able to sing at their best conditions, unlike this one which I can clearly see both singers struggling a little.

actually, the tone of this song was downgraded for Hwanhee voice so that Taeyeon could not reach her own note as the original version...she could sing usually in the previous song with Chen but for this song is ***....anyway good try for both of them and hwaiting Tae tae :D

Debora Irene Christine In the original version, Taeyeon sang her part with female key so she can sing it well. But in this performance, the song was cut at the male part so the key was very low for her voice. That's not Hwanhee's mistake, it's just because of the part of the song. I've been listening many songs of FFTS and I know that Hwanhee always sings loud like that, but it doesn't mean his singing is bad.

Hoang Ho I'm not saying he's a bad singer but clearly in this performance he screamed those high notes. He must have been tired because of his tour.

This part of the song they are singing is actually The One's part but they give some to Taeyeon since its a "duet" so that's why it sounds rather off. I am no musician but it does feel like they lower the key... Despite how unfortunate this duet turned out. Taeyeon looked amazing. Loved the dark hair. Hwanhee was very shaky.

I agree this performance may not be the best, but I still enjoyed it. I love SNSD and i love FTTS so this was a treat to watch :) I think it's too harsh to judge either of them from this sole performance alone, they're both amazing singers and both well known in their industry for their vocal talent.

For those of you who said Taeyeon ruined the song... Please listen again. This song was LOWERED in the first place, for Hwanhee because the original key was too high for him. Obviously this lowered key is too low for what Taeyeon is used to. And Hwanhee cracked a lot in the song. He was straining his voice. Taeyeon did her best to help him out.

They both sing really well, but Hwanhee's voice was way too strong while Taeyeon's was so soft. Hwanhee looked like he was struggling a bit too. Taeyeon's part was so nice. I wish she had more of the song.

Hwanhee's voice at the beginning gave me goosebumps *_* and I felt sorry for him when he became red as a tomato when his voice cracked xD
