Unbelievable how 1992 wasn't included in this... The best Indy 500 finish and probably the best Indycar finish call by any commentator, not just radio. Shameful

Taku was almost there and didnt make it in 2012, but he reached in 2017, and again got it in 2020 with the team which he didnt make it in 2012. this is so dramatic. Taku is the hero of Japanese motorsport.

Love the content but the title is disrespectful. The title should be something like: 'History will be made!': The best Indianapolis 500 radio calls of the 2000s The revised title would be fine, but to call this the best all time with NOTHING from 1955 to 2000 is inaccurate. The best radio call of all time could easily be 1992, 1986, 1982, 1960, or other examples from the previous century. Please take this as intended, constructive criticism. I love IMSP. I wish I worked there. I will fly over 1,400 miles to be there for race weekend 2024, we love IndyCar and the Indy 500!!

From Sid Collins, through Paul Page, and Bob Jenkins, to Mike King...somehow, some way, the folks that run the IMS Radio Network somehow, some way, manage to always put the right people in the right spots in the right moments for the Indy 500. Somehow. Some way. Is there something in the water in Indianapolis that makes spotting great radio talent easy?a EDIT: And there's Paul with the Wheldon, it's Wheldon part, mostly down to Mike King forgetting for a moment how to radio and being distracted by JR hitting the wall

not according to IndyCar rules at the time. Like it or not, it didn't matter if the pass was made in time. At that time in IndyCar, when a yellow came out, scoring would revert to the previous scoring loop reached under green flag conditions. That scoring loop had Helio in the lead. Sucks for Tracy, sure, but as per the rules at the time, Helio was the rightful winner. Nowadays, the field is frozen at the moment of caution, and under today's rules, there's definitely an argument to be made for Tracy winning.

  • @mikulitsi1819

@@schuylerschultz804 Nope what the commentator said was erroneous. This is seemingly what Tony George said at the appeal decision: On July 2, 2002, Tony George issued an 18-page decision on the appeal. He upheld the victory of Hélio Castroneves, and denied Team Green's appeal. In his decision, George stated that "Clearly Helio (Castroneves) was in front when the call (for the yellow) was made" and that several of the caution signals, including trackside and dashboard lights, a radio announcement and a flag closing the pits, were displayed before Tracy's pass. George also accepted Penske's arguments that, even if Tracy was ahead before the caution, the decision to call Castroneves the leader was an unappealable judgment call.
