History Teacher's First Reaction to Squire | Every Soldier in 1918

History skit comedian Squire has come to the attention of Mr. Terry. In this video, 2 soldiers fight up to the minute of the 11AM armistice in World War 1. What would 2 soldiers do once 11 hits? What would they talk about? Squire hilariously sets up the scenario. Mr. Terry gets to talk about the history behind all the Easter eggs they drop in this video.

One 1914 Christmas football match ended with the Germans winning 3-2. There may have been others that day. The reference to penalties is that whenever England play Germany in a major tournament it usually ends in a draw, leading to the result being decided in a penalty shoot out. England never win.

About the soccer match: there is this saying "a football match lasts 90 minutes and in the end Germany wins". Germany is somewhat of a nemesis to England when it comes to football. Hence the misery of the the soldiers in the movie "Dog Soldiers" being stuck in an exercise while Germany and England played one of the many matches against each other (in which England totally kicked our asses). So the supposedly lost match in 1914 is poking fun at the post WW2 football duels between England and Germany. These guys here are so awesome. Their humor and attention to detail is absolutely wonderful.

These guys are hilarious! They made two naval videos based in primarily WW2 lore, with a touch of WW1 in one of them...but also, both videos reference World of Warships. I get a chuckle out of each WW2 mention... like see how many references you can pick up: "A Steaming Pile of Ship" "Hunt for the Red Oktoberfest" Re: the current video above, one of my relatives fought in WW1 with the 322nd Field Artillery. I still have a book from my grandmother called "The Nations At War" from 1914. Apparently they printed a volume at the end of each year of the war. I can't imagine how tense waiting those last few hours were, before the Armistice kicked in.| Speaking of WW1 and gas... the "Attack of the Dead Men" - what a gruesome tale that is. Thanks for another great video!

Especially reaction videos, cudos for looking at the quite pequliar case of Aimo Koivunen, original video was hilarious, your reaction made it so much better. I´ve noticed that there is an incident in US history of wich there aren´t many videos and almost no-one has reacted to them/it.... i´ve seen an old black and white movie about it on our national tv years, (20++) ago. Can you make a video of "battle of athens" or is it politically so flammable subject that no one wants to touch it with a 30 foot pole. is it widely taught in US high schools or has only handfull of people heard of it.

The win on penalties is not about the actual match of 1914. It is a reference to how England always loses on penalties against Germany when it comes to it. Famously in 1990 where Germany then went on and became World Champion. Gary Linker will never get tired of telling the Story of how that happened. And why the English set themselves up to fail penalties by makeing such a big deal about training them, discussing the right order of players etc.

Pretty much - yes, but only in most places on the Western Front. It wasn't a sudden thing; the armistice was known about since 5-00am that morning so everyone was ready for it, although it was only for 36 hours initially. Fighting did indeed continue in several places during and after that time, including on the Western Front. For example, General John Pershing, Commander of the American Expeditionary Force, gave no instructions to his commanders to suspend any new offensive action during the remaining hours until 11am. This gave individual commanders latitude to determine their actions in the last few hours and in some quarters there was fierce fighting up to 11am which was difficult to stop. On 11 November alone were nearly 11,000 casualties, dead, missing and injured, exceeding those on D-Day in 1944.

What do you mean British Tanks sucked? British Tanks were made the Rhomboid shape to cross the trenches and pull the barbed wire which they did perfectly they didn't go fast because originally they were meant to support the Infantry and cross no man's land on first seeing four hundred and sixty mk 4 Tanks at Cambrai 1917 the Germans ran . The French developed their own tank which the US used it was OK on open ground useless in mud and trenches, so bloody useless for purpose. The US, France and UK were involved in making a joint tank the Mk VIII for a big push in 1919 which obviously didnt come off,and you say they sucked!! the Mk IX was the world's first armoured personell tank. First designed in 1915 Little Willie the First "Tank" was not a rhomboid it looks almost like later Tanks it would have had a turret. But that would have upset the centre of balance and the turret would have been next to useless on the type of ground so it was not what the Army required they wanted a machine that could cross the mud the trench and be able to shoot along the length of the trench killing the enemy as the did it, which is why sponsons. They did not suck they did what they were meant to do. From concept to first tank on the field was merely a year that's some going. Now if you want to say these machines were dangerous to the health of those first Tankies, no argument, the exhaust fumes were inside the tank. There were many problems with the first few Marks but if WW1 had lasted a little longer those would have been sorted. But to simply say those Tanks "sucked" is absolutely wrong. Oh and the US took 100 of those VIII Tanks back to the US and used them till 1932 When they replaced by more modern Tanks. Does that sound like "Suck" at the time they were being used they were the dogs bollo*ks.
