Rode it the first day it was open in 87. I was 13. Returned to ride it the last day with my 11yr old son. I'm 45 now. Vortex was awesome! Thanks for the memories!

I was there the day it opened on a field trip with my school. Me and my friends stood in line for 2 hours to ride it. Loved it! Soon as we got off we went to get back in line! Farewell, Vortex. You were awesome

I just rode it twice yesterday. I got to say goodbye. This roller coaster meant more to me than any other ride there.

they should rebuild Vortex exactly the same in the same spot(but that spot is probably long gone by now, haven't been there since 2008). the Vortex is a KI icon. i think it was the first big roller coaster i rode, i was like 7-8 years old the year it opened, and i used to draw the robot/terminator hand grabbing the track at school, i was so pumped to ride it eventually. i was just barely tall enough

Late August 1987: I skipped school for 3 days,...went to KI to ride Vortex! Such fond memories.

I can still hear the tv commercials in my head. This thing was a work of art, it was built like it was a giant display case of what a roller coaster should be!!! It will be missed!!

Cedar Fair could have easily kept this ride operating. There are other similar Arrow coasters out there about the same size that are actually older and still operating. Case in point, Lochness Monster and Corkscrew. Kings Island was told to say it was "the end of its service life". That just isn't true. They couldve at least kept the Iconic Victorian Station that was built for The Bat and used for Vortex. I think Cedar Fair wants to slowly remove everything that used to make it better than Cedar Point back in the 80s and 90s.

What are you talking about with Goliath around the 5:00 mark? I had to rewind a few times and still don’t get it. Goliath was opened in 2014. Superman: Ultimate Flight is in Shockwave’s place and opened in 2003.

One of our earlier videos. Not sure lol. I’m well aware that shockwave was torn down instead of Whizzer for Superman ultimate flight and iron wolf was torn down for Goliath. Good catch. Not sure why that was said

Nice look back on a historic ride. Got a ride on it back in August. I thought the ride was fine but I wasn't impressed overall. I will miss it though. One thing with Shockwave. Shockwave actually closed after 2002! Whizzer was going to be removed, but due to backlash, they decided on Shockwave. The new coaster to replace it was Superman, the B&M flyer. 🙂

Well Vortex 87, Shockwave 88 and Magnum XL 89. There are people that say either of them did, but we kept going higher after Vortex!

Midwest Coaster Fans: that make sense, but seeing as in how Magnum was supposed to be about 187’ originally, I would say the it was the canon-shot. If you like coaster history, you should check out ACE’s “The Legacy of Arrow” documentary on KZread!

The Orient Express open in 1980 it seems like there was a little bit more to that roller coaster then Vortex I'm from Kansas City I rode the Orient Express mini X wish I could have rode vortex look at Loch Ness that's the longest reigning Arow coaster and it's still running strong not sure why they're saying vortex and Express was at the end of their run that's a bunch of baloney Loch Ness is still running strong come on now

Loch Ness Monster is not as large as Vortex is. The smaller Arrow coasters are much easier to maintain.
