    Drama was not invented by any group of people, it just naturally emerged in many places. The information in this video is slightly biased. It can only be used to understand different types of play in different places.

    The Origin of Drama is tribal, we can see drama in many tribal societies. We can see drama in ancient Egypt and India. In the Age of Buddha too people used to play drama that was called swāng. Buddha prohibited monks and nuns to participate in such disturbance to monastic life. Buddha existed between 8th and 6th century BCE.

    The concept of “preforming” actually dates back to the Egyptian times in which priest would perform as a part of their religious ceremonies. But don’t feel bad, it’s a common misconception that theater started in ancient Greece.

  • @WildeKeen

    @WildeKeen

    3 жыл бұрын

    The first "performance" is impossible to track down, for many obvious reasons, the clearest being that there are implements of performance that pre-date Egypt, Greece, and our ability as humans to accurately date archaeological artifacts by a long, long time, so if we take "theatre" as the art of telling an audience, as opposed to a god, a story, which is most likely a big thing that makes theatre "theatre". If we look at the original Greek word "Theasthai" (to behold), it is clear the Greek performances were something for an audience to watch or "behold", a point that is made even more clear when taking into account the later Greek word "Theatron" which is used specifically to refer to the seating area of a theatre, as these words are both dirivitve of ancient Greece's word for beholding, it is apparent that theatre is made for an audience to sit and watch, which is not covered by any of the religious ceremonies from any point in history, not just ancient Egypt, which are primarily performances for Gods.

    @@roopaligangopadhyay5690 - While I agree with you that Indian theatre and dance is very enjoyable and was/is groundbreaking in that part of the world, the Egyptians did it first. The roots of drama in the Indian subcontinent can be traced back to the Rigveda, between 1400-1200 BCE. As ancient Egyptians pioneered theater around 1500-1400 BCE. So, it is possible that there is some overlap, but I stand by my original statement.

    Performance originated in Indian , with the oldest known literature, Veda , western theories are biased theu cannot accept that any kind of theatre, Performance and acting began in India, actually Indian priests in ancient India performed and pronounced the verses, it's documented in the first and only treatise on drama Calle the 'Natya Shastra' the Indian system of theatre, classical sanskrit plays and drama is far more developed much before the Poetics and even any knowledge that the western world had
