History of Tacoma's Fire Stations

Ойын-сауық

Tacoma's fire department is the first one in the state to have a fully staffed crew on salary. These tireless heroes protect our city and are part of a rich legacy of fire fighters. There are over 13 historic structures in the city that have served as fire stations and engine houses. Today these buildings serve a variety of uses including a few that still function as active fire stations. Come take a look at these amazing buildings are see the rich history of Tacoma's fire stations.
This is a project by the City of Tacoma's Historic Preservation Office to help highlight the history of the city. Special thank you to the Tacoma Fire Department for their assistance in the creation of this video and to Pretty Gritty Tours for filming, researching, and producing it.

Glad they are keeping their old fire houses. Used to work in Facilities at the City of Seattle. They had a fire levy and got rid of a lot of their old stations.

That’s tough. We are really lucky to not only have so many left but to have a few still in action is pretty great.
