Although very small, I think seeing the Netherlands slowly reclaim land from the sea was a very cool detail to add. Even if it was just in the corner and most people wouldn't notice it.

Good video, even so I as a German would say Germanys history didnt begun with the Deutschritterorden /Prussia. Even so yes Prussia had a big influence like Habsburger Austria. To note there was many longer lasting other "states" like saxony or Bavaria. As well as Brandenburg wich later unified with Prussia

As the barbarians of the Roman days were Germanic, they were not "German". I would say the history of Germany began with one of the three nations that derived from Francia. Particularly East Francia. That then went on to become the HRE (Became modern Germany)

I think it was 962 when King Otto I. became the first holy roman emperor, this is usually taken as the earliest point of German history as it was Otto who successfully united and led the different tribes which spoke old high German dialects like Bavarian, Swabians, Saxons etc. against the invasion of the Magyar in central europe. This union laid the foundation for a common German language and identity which developed over the centuries

By paying attention to such easily-overlooked details like the returning of small territories occupied by the Western allies back to West Germany, you've really put yourself above other mapping KZreadrs. Well done. Btw, it would be much more interesting if you also map in the territorial claims of Germany throughout history (for example, West Germany still considered the lost eastern territories as "occupied" rather than "annexed" and only renounced such claims in order to be let reunite with East Germany).

Quite impressive in general, some minor details are impressive compared to other mappers but I noticed some errors during especially WW2. Most importantly no distinction (in colours) between Military Government Occupation Zones and Civil Government Occupation Zones. Other than that if I am not wrong Germany still had an occupation zone in France after 1871. Edit: and no border at all between Reichskommissariats and simple occupations, which still makes sense to include.

This isn't the history of Germany. It's the idea that medieval Prussia was the nucleus of Germany. It wasn't even the nucleus of the subsequent state of Prussia. The only thing the original Prussia gave to the electors of Brandenburg was its name. And by the way, Bismarck was jumping on the bandwagon, even reluctuant at first, when he came to the conclusion that those long subdued ambitions to create a united Germany might even be turned into a win-win situation for Prussia. There is a reason why nostalgia for Prussia is so very weak and Germany can exist so well and so unified even all without them.

"There is a reason why nostalgia for Prussia is so very weak and Germany can exist so well and so unified even all without them." -> Well, the vast majority of "Prussians" were relocated to modern day Germany by force after WW2 by the Soviets. So technically the people who inerit the lands of Prussia for centuries remained German and their offspring is still living in modern day Germany. It's just the location, that was absorbed by other nations, not its population. Of course, this creates very little nostalgia. Things would be very different, when Germans would still live there today.

@@dnocturn84 The homesickness of those people who had been expelled was immens. The lost countries in the East had been German for centuries, long enough to develop distinct dialects, especially in East Prussia and Silesia, which meanwhile have died out for ever and can never be revived. The old names of towns and cities are still kept alive in many street and ship names. Prussia is also a geographical region, that didn't change its name in German, though it's completely outside of Germany now.

I thought you were also making a map of the HRE (this would be required to get the full history of Germany). But I guess making a map with 1500 countries for every year is too hard even for you XD
