What i find crazy, is the fact when the Ottomans started in 1299 they were at the time of the Mongols. And by the end of their empire in 1923, WW1 ended 5 years ago, and there are people born today who lived during the ottoman empire. Crazy!

Even if you look at Russian chronicles they all unambiguously refer to the Golden horde as a foreign power. @@mihanich Yeah that's right, but I don't think you understand the meaning of a vassal. The Russian principalities were conquered and controlled by the Mongols. The Russians had to pay tributes and resources and provide soldiers, but were allowed to manage themselves autonomously. THAT is the reason why nothing changed in their culture, nevertheless they were a FIXED part of the Golden Horde for almost 300 years. Do you think that every time a country is conquered, the culture and language are changed? No, you use vassals, make them dependent and allow them a certain freedom in return. This reduces the risk of a rebellion and ensures that a country is not directly occupied by strangers.

Rus was not annexed. Rus was in tributary state.which meant that they retained their political independence and domestic autonomy. The Golden Horde only took some part of the regular tribute.
