I think this is (by far) the best fan-made Tomb Raider related item ever!! Oh my God, it's perfect, simply perfect!! As archaeologist and historian myself, I firmly state that this is what a History/Archaeology documentary should be: instructive, entertaining, well edited, well scripted... Thanks for doing this, I'll wait for more to come!!

Such an excellent video! Reminds me of the old history tv shows I watched as a kid. Recently I've been on a tomb raider bing and have always been in love with the classic games but never played them till now. I never realized how much of a walk through history they were but its amazing how timeless this game and Lara herself really are especially today! 🥰❤️‍🔥

Thank you so much for your comment! "A walk through history" is such a great way to put it. You're never or seldomly directly confronted with genuine historical information yet the games are filled to the brim with them if you look closely enough. That always fascinated me the most about playing them growing up.

Man this video has been a rollercoaster ride. Only found it because I got nostalgic for the PS1, then I see Shelley's name and got even more excited, then I started watching it and my joy went through the roof! Then I saw the amount of views it has and got saddened by the criminal lack of notice this series has gotten. A documentary about history and geography around THE exploration video game of our time! Narrated by none other than the very first voice of one of the most legendary video game protagonists of all time!!! How does this not have millions of views?? Also Shelley if you ever see this I also loved you in Peep show, wish you'd done more episodes!

I learned so much not only about the true history of what's presented in the original game, but parts of the story that completely went over my head (mainly why the dinosaurs were in the Lost Valley). I enjoyed this very much! 2 errors I noticed, along with a small nitpick. 1, Velociraptors and Tyrannosaurus weren't Jurassic Era. They were Cretaceous. You also missed a common theory among paleontologists that their existence would've complimented, which is the America's and Asia were connected during that era. All 3 have members of the Raptor family and Tyrannosaur family, though their sizes vary. The other error is minor, Lara herself ransacked Natla's office, Natla had no reason to be on the run. Lara was confident enough to make herself at home once she found something of interest. And the nitpick,I wish you pointed out the differences in the two versions of the story, because you would mention details that either series either ignored or it didn't happen. Keep up the good work!

Amazing. I had hoped though that you would have covered the animals that appear in these levels a bit. I find it funny how the game almost goes out of its way to have animals that are not native to the regions. - Peru has Wolves and Brown bears, neither of which live in South America. There is a native bear species to south America, the spectacled bear, but that's clearly not what is portrayed in game. There's also animal called maned wolf, which lives in south America, but although it has wolf in the name, it's technically not a wolf and is clearly not what's portrayed in game. (not to mention the dinosaurs, but that's covered in the video) - Greece has Lions, Crocodiles and Gorillas. Lions don't inhabit Greece, but they did in ancient times and I guess they could be remnants of those or imported lions from the Roman ages, although they are found at the very entrance of the monastery. Crocodiles are not native to Greece, but I guess it could be argued that they were also imported by Romans for use in gladiatorial fights in the colosseum bellow the monastery. The Gorillas make absolutely no sense however. They live far south of the Sahara and were just legends until they were found by westerners as recently as 1902. They definitely don't belong in Greece! - Egypt is the least offensive one here since Crocodiles are native to Egypt, as well as leopards which did inhabit Egypt in ancient times (although it's a bit weird that they're all black since that would mean that they all have melaninism, a condition which is essentially the opposite of albinism. I guess that original animals all these tomb-dwellers descend from had the condition and they all passed it on) - This is one of the things I've always wondered about and would be the question I'd pose if I ever were to talk to a former Core employee (especially *why* gorillas??)

i actually had a little more trouble with the second episode? maybe because i'm more familiar with the atlantis myth in general then I am with Chinese history and myth. forgive me that i don't have the time to pull up like, timestamps for more specific critique, but there's definitely moments where i got lost on what was actual myth and what was game myth, if that makes sense? i'm a big fan of using games and other pop media to sneak some proper education into people's diets so maybe that kind of thing sticks out to me more then most :) these must have taken a lot of work/time, but i hope to see one for the third game eventually! i have a lot of fond memories of playing these games with my mom.

Wow. Great job! Even for me that is a foreigner (Brazilian), was very educational and instructive from your part to bring all those information to us and transform what was a "simple" game into a big historical context. Once again, congratulations!!!

A fantastic video with great splicing of game and real world footage! The only thing I noticed is the narration could be a little slower, this is something that I would to see changed for the next video. All in all though wonderful content!

Excellent job! Knowing the story behind the game and how the designers were influenced by these historical places to create a very good story. One thing they left is that Tartessos, a culture who inhabitied the south of Spain, is partially connected to the myth of Atlantis. Recent discoveries have pointed out this but game was released in 1996. Great video anyway. First Tomb Raider is my favourite game as it is part of my childhood. You should have used more scenes of the original game. And one last thing: I like how you pronounced "conquistadores" and "Francisco Pizarro". I am Spanish, that's why I am saying it :D. Thanks for the video!

Great work! I'd suspect the mess in Natla's offices to have been caused by Lara after breaking in though, but I really enjoyed my time here - so, thank you! :)
