I grew up playing Tomb Raider and it's still my favorite franchise.

The same. I first played it on Sega Saturn. Next, I played all 5 of them on ps1. They are still the best compared to the new ones.

Lara's always been a role-model for me. Ever since the first game came out ( or rather ever since my father first played it) she's been my heroine! I always wanted to be like her, because of her I grew out my hair really long. So Toby's intention of Lara as a role-model worked for me :) Hearing the soundtrack brings back memories and so many emotions. I almost forgot what a big role she played in my life. When I was little (like 5 or 6) my father played the first game and I used to watch (up until the sixth game I think). One day I got my little chair and imitated everything she did. When she jumped off a cliff or something, i jumped off my chair, when she ran, I ran, etc. And I remember how devestated I was when I heard that she had "died" after TR 4. Man, that was cruel.

You have word for word described exactly how Lara influenced my childhood & adulthood!! It’s amazing knowing there are other people out there who have such amazing memories tied to her. I watched my dad play too from when I was 4/5 & jumped onto my first game The Last Revelation though I would just play the tutorial level over and over !! Your comment has made me so happy 😊

I don't understand why so many people say Lara is a bad role model for women. They see her as nothing but a glorified sexual object. Feminists say these things. It's actually the opposite. Lara kicks ass and takes names, dodges traps, always uses her intelligence to survive catastrophe, discovers forgotten ancient ruins at the risk of her own life for the sake of discovery, and always saves the world in time for tea. Ever since I played the first game back in 96 I've always highly respected her. Mostly because I know I could never do the amazing things she does in a million years.

+MrAnimeopera The only thing I see wrong is the advertising and other media outside of the games were really just reducing her to a sex image. But the comics and games are quite the opposite, as you say she is an amazingly talented and smart person who overcomes many challenges. But its not like the feminists that complain actually have played the games or read the comics

I remember how much that music got my attention when I played TR1 on PS1. Was a great reminder of the potential of the PS1.

I still think the movies were actually pretty good. Nothing nearly oscar-worthy, but they definitely weren't as terrible as the reviews made them seem. I think it's one of those cases where the movies simply weren't made for reviewers, they were made for fans. Yes there was a lot of marketing involved, getting Angelina and other big names into it, but I think anyone would agree the typical Tomb Raider fan loved the movies. That's all that matters, really.

well actually Angelina got her big name after this movie and she became well known internationally and yes you are right I liked the movies , really enjoyable but if only they made a better story or used the story from TR1

Angelina Jolie was perfect for the first two movies. It was as if they made the video game character based off her

I still get goose bumps when I hear the Tomb Raider theme song..I spent long days by myself playing this game when it first came out..I had the sound hooked up through my huge stereo speakers..And would push the lazy boy right up to the tv...It was amazing!!

Tomb Raider one of my favorite video games of all times. The exploration, mystery, adventure, ancient cultures, puzzles, action, story, just the experience was amazing. No other game has offered me this even till this day. One of a kind. I just wished the modern TR games kept that same formula and experience.

It was well received but not as much as the first. I would argue critics were being very generous. Tomb Raider 2 is one of the most disappointing sequels I've played.

Watched the whole video. Awesome upload! This was a very detailed look at Tomb Raider and Lara Croft.

Whether you hate her or love her, see her as a role model or sexual object or what have you. When you think of the top 3 Greatest females in gaming and just some of the greatest characters in gaming in general 3 names should come into the conversation no matter what: Chun-Li, Samus Aran and Lara Croft. The three most recognizable female characters in gaming. There is absolutely NO debate about how the 3 of them have firmly solidified themselves into the gaming universe and pop-culture as a whole. To be able to cause such controversy over feminism and take such scrutiny and still have or consistently be in prominent and successful franchises for over 40+ years is absolutely incredible. Each one of them live in their own space and create a perfect equilibrium between gaming genres. Housing an un-matched trifecta of gaming greatness that many franchises today could only HOPE to attain.

I have been a gamer since the late eighties on C64 and never heard of Chun Li or Samus Aran... That said I have been a PC gamer all my life and I get the suspicion these are console characters.

lol 5 Tomb Raider games on the same engine and the critics moan....15 Call of Duty games on the same engine and the critics love it hahaha Gaming is way too fucking mainstream now days. ps the GBC Tomb Raider game was awesome !

The original just had something something magic about it. Even though it plays really similar to the few that followed the original just leaked charm.. The others were good but the OG raider will always stand head and shoulders above the rest

I've played Underworld. It's pretty good. I got stuck trying to activate a lever fast enough.

It means to look back at the past of a certain event or point in time. In this case the Tomb Raider series.

I hate when people credit Eidos for creating Lara, instead of Core Design. It's like crediting the publisher for a book instead of the actual writer.

It's crazy the mountain of shit the franchise became between the second game and Legend. I'm glad that all got worked out.

TombRaiderEmpire Thanks for that :) After some searching some people said the same song was played in venice; not sure about that one,but nonetheless I am amazed the TR community is so active after the death of Core; as someone who grew up with TR as a household game must have, I am still amazed at its great fan base XD

Tomb Raider 2013 is an insult.. Square Enix come on.. If you want this game to be great like it was once was then better make this game with your best team like team of KingDomhearts and/OR final Fantasy 15.

This video is so hard to watch. So many inaccuracies and false information. For instance, Tomb Raider 2 had positive reviews, not mediocre. The Toby Gard making Lara’s chest bigger bust by accident is a lie as well. She was designed to be curvy. I made it as far as Tomb Raider 2 and have to stop watching this terrible “history.” If you want a more accurate history of tomb raider, I suggest reading “20 Years of Tomb Raider”, or watch the Gametap Tomb Raider Retrospective - although it only goes up to Legend.

TombRaiderEmpire Well, to me it’s spreading false information to people wanting to learn about the history of Tomb Raider. It’s like having students keep studying from the same history book even though it’s not correct. In don’t think it should be shared to provide false information. I would have a disclaimer or annotations when a fact is wrong, but that’s me. About you helping the book, that’s awesome! My art is in too, but it makes me cringe haha.

Progress sucks! There are only 3 real Tomb Raider games, and those are the first 3. Tomb Raider games are supposed to be blocky and look like shit. And they're also supposed to give you an ulcer from the horrendous gameplay. That's what's good about the series. I did like the last one on the island, but that wasn't Tomb Raider. That was Far Cry with tits...
