Historically Accurate Longsword Techniques in VR - Blade and Sorcery

I've always been fascinated by HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts). I tried using what little knowledge I had of it in VR.

I’m a HEMA fencer, I saw your post on the subreddit. Just wanted to say that VR melee combat rarely excites me, but you did a really admirable job of putting in some effort to make it look convincing. It’s still not 100% there - the lack of proprioception/kinesthetic awareness will probably always be there and make it feel floaty - but this is one of the best examples I’ve seen. Nice job.

I was so entranced by the combat that i only noticed near the end that the music in the background was a medieval styled doom soundtrack LOL
The style is awesome, but I just like the medieval BFG division in the backgrouns
NOW I REALLY NEED THIS GAME
Man fighting in wars back then must have been terrifiing
As I was watching this I realized I have a medieval combat book that may have some use now
So good.
There’s something… oddly menacing about the non-first person segment @1:23 ish. Seeing the chest area not moving when a parry or block occurs, only for it to kind of act like normal when you lean over for a stab is leaning on uncanny valley. If I saw that anywhere else but a VR game and the rest of the hypothetical game had normal animations I’m pretty sure I’d mark the NPC down as an unusual unit. It makes the VR disconnect in sensation act more like a warning to your instinct somehow, like the momentum of the incoming swing has been canceled so completely it doesn’t even shift you. I love it.
The only time I have seen a realistic fighting be actually realistic
That was beautiful. God, I love witnessing real skill. There's just something really beautiful in the purity of it. This is sword fighting (fencing, whatever), but it's the same with anything really, carpentry, painting, doesn't matter, skill is skill and it's beautiful to see implemented perfectly. Great video, it's a fucking joy to watch. EDIT: Yeah, I know that you used slow-mo and sped it up, but the video speaks for itself. Honestly, it's a really great demonstration of pure skill in action, even if there's some slight faking in order to get the end result. The end result is the beautiful demonstration of it that's doing it for me. I don't even care about how it was made, it's gorgeous.
