HISTORIC CANTON, MISSISSIPPI | Town Square, Abandoned Piggly Wiggly & More!
In today’s video, we visit what some people call the “Hollywood of Mississippi” Canton. Films like O’Brother Where Art Thou, My Dog Skip, Mississippi Burning and A Time to Kill have all been filmed in this small Mississippi town. We also check out an abandoned grocery store, Piggly Wiggly.
Hello and welcome to the World of Micah! I travel around filming everything and anything I find interesting -from theme parks to abandoned urban exploring. If you enjoy learning more about Disney history, tips & secrets or a fan of Disney World nostalgia you have come to the right place. I also enjoy showing Universal Studios history and taking a look of what’s left of from classic attractions like JAWS and Back to the Future. More of an Urban Exploring fan? I travel around Central Florida and film everything from abandoned Toys “R” Us stores to abandoned attractions.
Let’s take a closer look!

love our hometown
I love that abandoned house with the 2 story columns on front porch. What a shame it's not being restored.

You bet!
My home town..
I miss going to the big Piggly’s Wiggly.
That old chinese restaurant building was built in the 70s. It used to be an old Otasco store that sold appliances during 70s early 80s if I remember correctly. You missed a lot of the older homes in Peace Street (main street in Canton) however.
The museum you showed (red building) was originally a saloon in 1800s or early 1900s. I never remember it being a bank however. Maybe so? Before my time.
The Piggly Wiggly closed in 2019 I believe… I heard they filmed some scenes from a horror movie since it closed and I would love to know which one! My house was Bill Engvalls “house” in “The Neighbor” before we bought it and renovated.
Like you, I am so into nostalgia. I was born in 1959 but wish I had been a teenager during the 60's. Very into the music of that era. Loving the small town tours Micah. Keep'em coming 😀👍😀👍😀👍😀
i been in that piggly wiggly so many times and the dominos over there used to be non existent had to go all the way by mcdonald’s to go to dominoes
One street over are larger antebellum homes. The large Victorian house is the most beautiful home in Canton on Peace Street. You passed it on your left. It was before you reached the house you said was abandoned.
The old cotton gin was booming during older times. Provided a lot of work for the people in Canton. Sad that agriculture has almost diminished to a small number of cotton farmers now and they have to drive to another town for ginning... believe Yazoo county.. Think the gin is now owned by the original owner's son as his music store. He is a great musician.
I😂pick my last sack of cotton in 1965 ,I was so happy to get on that train to Chicago Illinois, now it's horrible..o
The opera house used to be a store (think TWL store) ..... kind of like a Fred's...
I closed 2016 because my grandfather used to go there before hunting
There is a Piggly Wiggly in Wiggins, Ms still, I think.
the piggy wiggley is back up
I survived the flood of 1979 in Jackson when the Ross Barnett reservoir broke Easter weekend!
Dude I was at the circle k across from that piggly wiggly doing some work from 7-12 yesterday. And that Chinese place is pretty good.

great trip, thank you! Living in Cal, I have heard of Piggily Wiggly all my life, but have never seen one :-)
Do they still have piggly wiggly stores there? I live right across the border to North Dakota and we used to go to Fargo and Grand Forks a lot. They also had a piggly wiggly and I remember shopping there. OMG how on earth is that house abandoned? It’s beautiful! I really miss travelling. 💔 Oops as i watched more of the video, there is indeed a piggly wiggly still opened LOL
