This fight still uses some of the basic principles Gon described while hunting Hisoka in the hunter exam. Hisoka waited till Gotoh was attacking, in this case his own barrage to strike. It’s amazing how many of the basic principles laid out in the beginning of the series reflect in later parts.

A rather weird and difficult lesson in martial arts training. Don't dodge or block when he's about to attack, wait until he's already into his strike, then he's stuck in that direction and can't redirect himself. Otherwise if you move prematurely, he simply turn and strike in your new direction.

What I really like about this fight is that it seems to be the most realistic to me. Most fights IRL only take a few seconds to unfold and we usually don't get to see the true potential of everyone in fight. Also Hisoka using mind games to completely outwit Gotoh, making him think the coins were the key to Hisoka's attack, but it was just a diversion to pop down and cut his throat.

Man, GOtoh would've been the best bodyguard in real life. He could get in anywhere even with tough security without needing a gun or knife. Just few change.
We actually don't know how strong Hisoka really is since he holds back for pure thrill. He seems to enjoy pain and seeing others despair when fighting at their best. Chrollo is an enigma to him for some reason, but he is considerably stronger than most of everybody. I would place him in the top 5 of currently alive people.

Because the editing is absolute crap here. The question Hisoka asked is missing. It was something like "How many coins will I use against you?" If you don't have that piece of information, the chat between them doesn't make any sense.

だけどフランクリンの念弾だと伸縮自在の愛で絡めとって跳ね返しながらそれを相手が迎撃してる隙に隠で頭上から忍び寄ってお終い戦法が使えないからな
We actually don't know how strong Hisoka really is since he holds back for pure thrill. He seems to enjoy pain and seeing others despair when fighting at their best. Chrollo is an enigma to him for some reason, but he is considerably stronger than most of everybody. I would place him in the top 5 of currently alive people.

Well... in the manga he did say that the things he gets off the most is watching is opponent look up to him in despair after he shatters his plans. He really enjoys figuring out the enemy, what a great character
2:30 there is a joke here, Hisoka had asked how many coins are there, and he answer with oshimai means 4, and oshimai have another meaning "its over"

ゴトーは生き残ってほしかった。 でも正直、ゴトーが全力だったとは思えないんだよね。 コインを射出するだけが能力とは思えない。 念の基本原則から 自身から離れたら本来の強度を得られないだけで、 コインは周で強化可能だし。 或いは放出寄りの属性だったら射出後も周を維持できそうだし。 射出も回転も技術でどうとでもなりそう。 と言う事で敗因は油断。
