It’s so silly how meek and bending they are to any slight intimidation. She puts on a bold and loud front but still ate it anyways. She’s no better than her mother who obediently tried to eat it right away.

She's only ever meek towards her sisters where it concerns her mother though. Yeah, she could fight back and be fine, but once she and her husband go home, her mother is left to their not-so-tender mercies

@@serenityis12 that doesn’t really make sense though because if anything, like you said she’s in a much higher position now thanks to her husband. But what use is it if the person doesn’t even know how to play the cards they’ve been dealt? She could easily be much more assertive and make it clear that as her mother, mom’s honor is directly linked to her husbands honor and reputation. Those little tarts wouldn’t even have the gall to breath in her direction let alone bother her mother. Imagine if it was discovered that the mother in law of such a powerful man was being tormented and bullied in her own home by her own step daughters? His reputation would hit rock bottom from the shame. If she stopped being all bark and no bite and actually put some brain into it and learn how to use her status properly, none of these things would be an issue even if she isn’t physically around to protect her mother 24/7…. People in this era care deeply about reputation and hierarchy. They dare to be disrespectful because they fail to see the link between the mothers reputation and the husbands reputation and the biggest failure and cause of this is the female leads terribly lackluster efforts towards establishing a clear hierarchy.

@@MysteriMustacheToast Except that the first reputation to plummet, if their bullying were to be exposed, would be her father's. It's his household, yet he has no control over his daughters. Therefore, he would be the one to suffer. As such, even if she wanted to expose them, her mother would suffer in the end. The reputation of the head of house affects everyone in that house, including her mother and her father's first wife, who, as far as we know, has never mistreated her.

He couldn't afford to. It would have not only offended his inlaws, but it also reflected badly on him and made him look like more of a brute. With the emporer granting the mairage, he needed to be more tactfully about it as well. In a lot of these drama settings, it's seen as undignified for a man with his abilities to pick on a defenseless woman. Chinese etiquette durring the time these dramas were based I n could be really tricky for situations like this. The only who could've gotten away with throwing the dish at her is her parents or mayby the fl. Granted, not all settings are the sane, but there are a lot of possible reasons why him throwing the dish at her would have been a horrible idea.
