    I feel genuine happiness too when I hear his laugh. I had the privilege to see His Holiness in Toronto a few years back, the atmosphere was "odd" . I can't describe the feeling in that arena- not clever like Russell Brand. I imagine many of the audience weren't Buddhist, I am not Tibetan but try to follow Tibetan Buddhism! Shop too much- the man next to me asked me, politely if I felt sort of unusual- and I nodded and we both just sat there as if waiting for SOME THING, we started to laugh, softly, embarrassed- His Holiness emphasized his "human-ness" , no faith healing, no magic conjuring etc! But there was a peculiar goosebumps, nice goosebumps vibe mixed in with the incense- never experienced anything like it! Wasn't the eager, adrenalin rush I got before a band I loved came on stage- not even my "idol" Leonard Cohen (RIP) and I saw him late in his career and nearly fainted...! Have you seen The Dalai Lama, are you a Buddhist, an old soul? An old soul, that is perhaps the best description for a Westerner- a fence sitter, regards, ghosts, GOD, reincarnation- one who is seeking the sound of one hand clapping- Namaste, Isabella, 7 yrs ago! I hope you are well, didn't get covid- I just received my 1st vaccination. Z.

    Einstein on Buddhism. "The religion of the future will be a cosmic religion. It should transcend personal God and avoid dogma and theology. Covering both the natural and the spiritual, it should be based on a religious sense arising from the experience of all things natural and spiritual as a meaningful unity. Buddhism answers this description. If there is any religion that could cope with modern scientific needs it would be Buddhism."

    Tsnafu No, he is not. He was a CIA stooge back in the 50s and 60s when he cooperated with it to arm Tibetan militias to depose Mao Zedong, killing 1 million people in the process. Even today, he is still an agent of US imperialism in China, not promoting Tibetan nationalism, but Tibetan expansionism, wanting to take 1/4th of all Chinese territory to integrate into Tibet. That's not even getting into his Zionist anti-Palestinian racism.

  • @cjlwhite1

    @cjlwhite1

    Quq Balam. You're talking about something that happened over 60 years ago. Furthermore Dalai Lama promotes democracy now, and freedom, and wishes autonomy for Tibet. The Chinese Government has been oppressing Tibet from the start. Even now, they limited the amount of Tibetan scripture that can be read in their language. They limit the religions of their people, and oppress Buddhists, Christians, Muslims, and anyone who is not an athiest. Zionist? He isn't a Jew. Doesn't believe in anything even remotely Jewish. Wanting your own land for you and your people is not Zionism. Call it what you want but I call that preserving a culture.

Never has he ever claimed to be anything more then a simple monk and the only reason he fled his home was to protect his people. In the teachings of ZEN anyone who claims to be a zen master is a fake for zen can't be mastered and everyone is constantly learning and striving for absolute peace.

    I love His Holiness' fantastic description and view of partying. He says he thinks it's wrong but also wants the people doing it to have the right to do it if they like. If all leaders thought of things in this manner (i know this example is not referring to something particularly large, but it's the point of view that counts) we'd have a significantly better world to leave to our children.

I havnt meditated in years , so unfortunately I find it extremely difficult to understand what hes trying to say (in very bad english) . If he used a translator he could communicate far more efficiently . Not very "Zen" at all. Buddhism is often synonymous with efficiency

    People disappoint me, he is not a god one earth, Buddhism has no god, the Dali lama is just the spiritual leader and teacher of Buddhism and is the ten carnation of Buddha, he is not a communist a-hole but a man that is full of love and peace and encourages people to be who they are. And those saying he is wrong and Buddhism needs a new leader, the Dali lama is conflicted wether or not the world needs him anymore and may not be reincarnated. Please before saying such negative thing about a man who I have had the chance to meet is a wonderful and kind man do some research before hand, before saying such negative things

    Long Live This Holiness the Dalai Lama! It is up to us to pray for this man and to protect him from people who want to bring him down. They are terribly misguided. But I believe that truth will win and he will come back as 15th Dalai Lama. China is trying to say that the next Dalai Lama will be born in China only. They are mean and want to hurt Tibetan Buddhists and HH. Please do not worry.

    technically he is the "incarnation" of a deity or principle called Avalokitesvara (bodhisattva of compassion), and the dalai lama ("ocean teacher") lineage which traces back to Tsong Kha Pa (13thcentury), not the historical Buddha (Siddhartha Gautama, ~5th-6thth century BCE) It should be emphasized that the position is a means to unite diverse schools (hence the term "ocean" signifying its universality), and trying to limit or trace reincarnational models in a simple 1-to-1 sort of way is almost certainly the wrong way to look at it. Think digital reproduction - Avalokisevara as software, reproducible ad infinitum. Shit, we are, after all, as George Lakoff and Mark Johnson have written, "metaphorical beings"

  • @meghan42

    @meghan42

    Yes. Life is actually very simple. We only need to eat and sleep. Between these two points, we work. But "work" has been so complicated as we've made it so. All the complexity of our very complex 'economic systems', Whether capitalist or communist ...... neither system is natural. We are simply animals living on a very beautiful planet. It really is that simple.

  • @A-Milkdromeda-Laniakea-Hominid

    @A-Milkdromeda-Laniakea-Hominid

    meghan42 It is and it isn't; that simple. Yes we are animals, but we will perish if we try to live as an animal. We have lost our body hair, we cannot tolerate raw meat (even uncooked veggies will give you an upset stomach if you grazed) and we have no claws to burrow shelters with. So the whole complex economic systems are in place to provide food shelter and clothing to large numbers of our population. It's the only way we could manage, until recently: the smart computer, married to hydraulic machines, could let us return to simple work. And the work would be whatever makes us happy; work for the sake of work, not work for survival. That's a truly beautiful concept! Now if we could just keep the population under control...

    Paulie Walnuts with all due respect, nobody is "just" a sex addict or a junkie... Everyone on the planet has something special to bring to the world, including the unfortunate souls who get lost on paths of addiction. It bothers me when I hear grossly over-simplified assumptions and generalizations about people who have made bad choices in their lives by other people who have also made bad choices. Think about the last bad choice you made... Did you have to pay for it everyday of your life from that point on!? Shaming those who have fallen into this trap is only adding to their suffering, not to mention, inhibiting the potential gifts the person being shamed may have to offer from ever manifesting out from under the immense shame and scrutiny of others. Society is essentially robbing itself of the potential gifts found in others through it's own hypocracy. Most of us learn at a young age that choosing to do drugs will lead us to undesirable places in our lives... But the problem doesn't stop there... There are reasons people make the choices they make, and I guarantee that most addicts didn't become addicted to drugs because they wanted to be junkies. As a society, we need to practice a bit of humility in realizing that a person's mistakes in life doesn't necessarily represent who that person is fundamentally... And perhaps if we approached them with compassion and a willingness to understand and help, we could help those who are lost find their true selves and thereby contribute their unique talents to the world instead of slowly withering away in the dark being shamed for mistakes they pay for daily and tragically never realizing their potential in what they could have offered this world. This concept goes back to the old saying "one who lives in a glass house should never throw stones."

We aren't actually fully supporting those terrible things like racism and homophobia. It's just the oldies that keep screaming"HURR DURR WE ARE OLD WE ARE WISE" Unfortunately, half of those oldies are politicians. There will come a day when people of India will be as liberal in their thinking as any other country. Because each succeeding generation happens to be more open minded than the before one. Also, I am extremely sure Sadhguru doesn't follow those ideals either.
