Matt please do a video on acetabular retroversion - the surgeon recommended a surgery where they cut through the femur and rotate and reattach. Yikes! Lots of people do videos on ante version but I can't find anything on retroversion

Yes, but upright health doesn't tell you ANYTHING on how to fix or rehab without surgery if you think you HAVE a tear. I've looked, can't see ONE video. Mostly just "grinding doesn't mean you have one." Admittedly, most of my hip/glute muscles are stubbornly dead, and I know I have to activate them, but what the hell about how to fix the pain??? Btw pain is NOT a friend, pain can drive you to have suicidal thoughts. I know. I've thought about it many times - I.e. "being dead is preferable to being in THIS much pain."

Pain can also drive you to find the cause of the pain. I'm grateful for the back pain I've had because it prompted me to investigate what muscles I needed to make work better. If it weren't for that back pain signaling to me that I needed to change what I was doing, I may have suffered a worse fate. Now, thanks to the back pain I used to have, I move better, am more athletic, and understand my body better. Oh and I don't even remember what back pain feels like anymore. I'm not special (in the above regard). If you reframe your mindset about pain in the same way, you can change your life. - Vincent

Another way to put it --- you ask "what the hell about how to fix the pain???" Start working on your "stubbornly dead" hip muscles.

Yep, pain makes you try to find out what is going on. It’s debilitating. I have a great PT but, that won’t heal my tear. Pain is definitely not MYYYY friend. You’re hiking...I’m trying to get out of bed or into bed.

I am 70...have spent a couple of years losing weight and work with a trainer for toning and strengthening and endurance. Suddenly...a ferocious hip pain..felt mostly in glute. The more I worked out, the worse it became. Finally had to just stop...ONE year later I was finally diagnosed with a labral tear. Is it possible that the 'workouts' led to the tear?...this is some osteo in the joint, but normal for my age.

I'd encourage you to check the fai fix. Stay away from these orthopedic surgeons if you can. They're enthusiastic to cut into you and unaccepting and dismissive of any problems you may develop from a surgery.

Xrays and MRI does not guarantee showing a labrium tear. I had my surgery 12 days ago and have no pain what so ever! Not everyone has the same experience with a labrium tear have the same experience, but to discount having you hip scoped is ridiculous.

Hello sir. I hope you will read this. About 2 months ago I started taking martial arts for the first time in my life. Since starting, I have had some bad pain in my hips and lower back. I thought after a little time, my flexibility would improve. I feel significant pain especially when doing side kicks and the like. It feels as if someone is stabbing me in each side of my outer hips. Do you have any recommendations for stretching those and also doing better straddle stretches. Thank you in advance

Butterfly stretch, horse stance, and glute activation work (in the direction you want to improve your flexibility) would be my suggestion. - Vincent
