I grasp you have tons of trees you use on your channel. If I can make a suggestion, try to come up with an easier way for us (the audience) to follow the progression of certain trees. Maybe give trees you plan on featuring year after year unique names or just a way for us to specifically identify them. I really enjoy your content. Keep up the great work, Dustin (Iwakuni, Japan)

I second this. Being able to easily follow a particular tree over time will become essential in the long run. Names, playlists, anything that helps is appreciated. I just semi-bonsai my house plants by cutting. It doesn’t compare craft wise, but

He is the owner of a commercial Bonsai nursery and this tree is just basically beginning stock for him and as he mentions in the video he has 100 of them. I don't think he will be able to reasonably name them or ever feature them again in following videos. He does have some world class specimens that I'm sure have names but it doesn't even matter as they are easily identifiable by sight.

I just can't get over the s-shape at the apex. I might have tried to make it look like it was struck by lightning and maybe carve the top part of the trunk that would have been my first idea. Then again I'm an amateur I don't know if this kind of tree would work nicely with deadwood- It would be a somewhat complementary to the shari tho. Maybe I'm not thinking long term enough.

Hi Bjorn! Great to see you made this very educational video on one of my favourite species the Hinoki! 👏There are a lot of misunderstandings about this species as a Bonsai and how to take care of them! So good one you to help Bonsai enthusiasts understand just how to work on them! But if I may make one comment or question: would it not have been possible to cut back the top some 10/15cm higher in the earlier preparation, leaving a longish stump to make a Jin out of and then bend up one of the lower placed branches straight upward to make the top out of?! Or to have cut it off the unwanted top at an angle just above a bendable front branch that then would be bent upwards to create a more straight top out of! As it is now, this all curly top looks great from a distance but is very unlogical on an otherwise very straight upright tree! Hope you don't mind me asking/commenting?! I can recommend all beginners and artists alike to give this species a try! I have one in my care for over 25 years now and enjoy its beauty every day! Stay safe Bjorn and keep up your good work for the Bonsai community! 👍👏 Cheers from Holland, Hans van Meer.

Help I have a 2 Hinoki Cypress trees that I have decided to bonsia myself, wired them both. One tree is very lush and green looking like it is thriving. The other tree has started to wither. The one that is thriving I put in a very large pot. The one that isn't, was put in to a small bonsia pot. I have since last week out it in to a large pot just to give it some aid. I water both trees everyday. When it was in the small pot you could see the exposed top roots as the water would wash away the top soil. For the last two days I have decided to submerge the pot in a large bucket of water. I haven't over filled it, around 3cm below the rim of the pot. Please give any advice. Circling roots (14:00) - This is exactly why i talk so much about air pruning pots & why they should be used by both bonsai nurseries & regular tree nurseries, specially former. Sure this was field grown but this damage to roots was inflicted when it was grown in a pathetic pot design, prior to being planted in the field. Trees grown in air pruning pots from seed stage & then planted into ground will never have this problem. Many tree nurseries have woken up & switched to superior air pruning pots but bonsai community in general, STILL believes in ancient, outdated, traditional pot designs. Their awareness of air pruning pots is shockingly low.

  • @VinnyChirayil

Air pruning pots give superior results for air layering too. I have seen many bonsai nurseries use a plastic wrap or a regular pot cut into 2 halves for air layering. And those will give pathetic roots, which have to be corrected at least a year later after cutting.
