Repotting a 300 Year Old Yamadori Juniper Bonsai | Bonsai-U
Ойын-сауық
In this week's KZread pre-release, the Eisei-en team repots a massive, well-established Itoigawa Shimpaku Juniper bonsai into a new, smaller container. These repotting steps are both applicable to older yamadori, as well as younger plant material with relatively established root systems.

That was amazing. I'm now ready for re-potting an ancient old tree. Anyone have a tree for me to test on?

I thought Im gonna hate the new pot, but it actually looks more balance with the weight of the foliage leaning to the left and the pot fuller on the right. hope we can see you cleaning that foliage soon.
Hi Bjorn! Fantastic repotting! Thank you very much for sharing your very interesting video and for your very important advice. You are a great source of inspiration! Very compliments 👍👍👍👍😉
I love one of Kimura videos when he took a Shimpaku and flipped it upside down. Like you said Bjorn -Magician. You all are. Love it great work
Nice to see you at work again with this amazing juniper😍
When the tree was imported I potted it right out of the box,and all trees I pot from photographs to match the angle.i like the new angle too, really it's a unique tree any way. Kim u ra I think this is the tree he turned upside down. Looks good Bjorn pot and all
Great stuff Bjorn, looking forward to the next Update.
Wonderful! Look forward to the updates!
Hi Sir Bjorn That's really beautiful tree i hope some day i can visit your nursery and see you in person you really giving me a lot of inspiration thank you for your video's
Can not wait to see this continued!
The guy holding the tree is the unsung hero here.
What a talented artist. I love your work.
Beautiful I'm just speechless on seeing this bonsai....
Looking forward to the next level.
We want more of u. Great stuff. Cheers from Ojai California
That pot looks so much better and the combo is way more in balance now! I do think that Mister Kimura carved a bit too much of the base, but I am sure that after thinning out the foliage when styling it will look much more balanced! Thanks for sharing it with us!🙏👍 Cheers, Hans van Meer.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. 👍👍🇵🇷
Amazing stuff. Hope to stop by one day and wishing you successful full year without any restrictions.
You may want to look into lock wire pliers if you are often repotting and wiring into new pots. I use them at work for lock wiring stuff and they make twisting and snipping wire less of a nightmare. Just a thought.
You and Ryan have taught me so much just like your masters taught you so I want to thank you
Good selection of pot, i like this pot. And waiting the next video of styling. Thank fo sharing
Great tree and great beautiful work
Beautiful work lads
that surface root on the left is perfect in my opinion 👌
Thanks for another super video 🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰
I am in love with that pot
Wow the work is very beautiful,, I was stunned to see it
Super job Bjorn - perfect new angel and perfect pot - look much forward following this beauty :)
What a beautiful tree!
Looks stuning..👍👍👍
Good one.... thanks for sharin'
I am surprised that the rocks that you used weren't rinsed before putting them in the pot. They kicked up so much dust I thought that wouldn't be good for the plant.

I heard about it too, but I saw a video of a japanese bonsai master mentioning that you can grow bonsai in any normal soil and does not necessarily need a "bonsai soil".
The best koleksi bonsai.. Amazing top rekor
Trees always top for you Bjorn✌✌
Very sweet Repot Bjorn and Team on this Awesome Juniper bonsai Tree. You nail it on the Pot also . Will the Restyling video becoming out Soon? Thanks for all you have Done for the Bonsai World.
I have not thought about a bonsai trees a second in my life. Yet here I am.
I think that the square pot and the color were spot on but it really fell short on size for my taste.
this tree is so so so so beautiful...
I’ve never heard someone work the word ‘rootage’ into sentence before. Well done.
Always happy to watch your vedio , and give me lots of inspiration from you. I hope one day I can meet you . I got fictur from my friend Jeans Christin from Denmark when you were in Mallorca .have great time friend
LOVE IT!!!!
Magnificent
There's less contrast now.. Such a beautiful tree. I love the piece of deadwood coming out of the leaves. It reminds me of a heron. The contrast of the deadwood and shadows is spectacular. I hope the owner knows what they have!

amazing video, I thoroughly enjoyed. Though that final shot of the tree does look extremely phallic...
when you need to nail something, everything looks like a hammer 😊
hope to see you style this tree soon! way too much foliage~
love ur trees ..16 yrs old and i am in bonsai because of u
Hey Bjorn. Repotted a bunch of Japanese maple seedlings but a good number of them turned black or brown at the base. I’m guessing they’re not salvageable and should just give up on them?
I cant find anything on the process of changing the foliage. Do you have a video or links that explain that process?
Is that a strong surface root that was left? Spectacular tree indeed.
I'm curious if it would be possible to do a weeping willow as a larger bonsai?
Great job, I love this beautiful tree❤
It's Great.
Using the sidecutters to hammer in the stakes kinda killed it for me... comon... after all this effort? Either be quick and grimy or delicate and perfect. The motive of the video... Thank you for the video, it is amazing in its entirety.

Definitely a level of delicacy below what I'd expect for such a piece
Crazy how much bonsai costs. Pots probably $400? I have bought that soil Akadama I'm guessing and you used probably $100 but turned out great
1:21 "without further adue we are going to wheel this guy into the workshop" 4 seconds later 1:25 two guys manhandle the tree into the workshop 😂😂😂 I LOVE KZread!
Awesome video! Do you have any free book recommendations that I could read to get started with something like this?
Hi, nice work, are you repoting the trees in waning moon?
Wow cool brother
interesting, there was so much care and time taken to work around to remove the tree from the pot only to aggressively cut and remove the roots later on ?
I think it looks awesome with loads of foliage have no idea why you'd want to trim it

Have you ever had any accidents with trees? Like cutting wrong limbs and too much comes off, or completely snapping the tree in half?

Have you done a video re: the styling of this bonsai? (You said you'd do it in a few months after March 2022)
Beautiful tree. That don't quite say it I'll try saying it again beautiful tree.
I like the way he mentioned not using the more common metal chopstick. 🤔
Great video. I genuinely thought Colin furze was part of it! You look so similar!
I have to admit it looks like its leaning just as much as it was in the old pot.

I put some tape on my screen. Moved the video around, from various points, the tree barely moved. The plant was lower (root ball) in the old pot. The difference I had noticed is the smaller pot gives the illusion that the branches are further from the pot.
How did they prevent the tree from growing?
How do I find the continuation video of this specific tree?
Number one 👍👍👍👍
I like bonsai yamadori👍
Idk how I never noticed that Bjorn is a giant lol
I like your bonsai
Imagine the person who was at the beginning of this tree's life. How different the people were at that time. That's just so fascinating.
Amazing that bonzai predates the founding of the US

Très beau bras
where are they collecting these?
Wow
Is there an update to this?
That shimpaku has appeared in Kimura’s book before
Cannot believe I watched a video on replanting a shrub.
Why put it into a smaller pot?

My guess is because it’s so old that the roots will grow so slowly. The older it is, the slower the entire tree grows
