Hinge Hack Weber Master Touch Premium 2019 E-5775 & E-5770

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This video solves all the lid problems with the new Euro Master Touch Premium E-5775 & E-5770 grills with the Hinge on the Lid!
After weeks of working with weber I have come up with a simple hack that allows the lid on the New Master Touch Premium to close correctly. The problem of the lid floating up and leaking tons of smoke with the sky high runaway temps can and will be solved by removing both springs on the hinge and relocating them to give the lid a POSITIVE weight at closing and still have the power to securely hold the lid open.
.
.
AFTER you change the springs around you will have to loosen the hinge mounting bolts on the kettle to reposition the hinge correctly to make the rear of the lid to sit down flat.
This last adjustment is quick and easy as the final step to prevent the last of the smoke leaks!
.
.
Please think carefully before you make this modification and think of your personal safety before you try it. If you think you can't do it safely please ask a friend for help.

Absolutely genious. I struggled for a good hour, slept on it, struggled another half hour, had the idea to turn the springs around completely (hooking them into the bottom holes so the hook end is in the hole instead of going into the hole and then sticking up outside the hole, if that makes sense) to get more oomph, googled "E-5775 hinge springs" and here I am. Followed your example instead of my own idea and had a quick adjust of the fastening bolts and now the lid is perfect. Boggles the mind that such a simple hack so completely fixes a "bug", and the Weber engineers didn't already think of it.

Hello Brian, I am really happy I could help you with your new grill! Another trick I have learned after using my grill is when you are done cooking and you want to shut down the coals.. Disconnect the hinge and remove the lid ... then set it back on the kettle TURNED so the hinge is not used! This will seal up the kettle even better and the charcoal will go out faster! Again.. I’m glad I could help with your new grill! If you like my video please tell your friends and subscribe and give a thumbs up 👍🏻 😉 Thanks for looking. Have a good one ;-)

Thank you for this excellent advice. I found a pair of adjustable pliers a necessary aid as my Weber is only a week old and the springs very tight and strong. Notwithstanding I managed to turn them round and a closed lid 👍 The only extra advice I would give anyone is to tape the cardboard protection down as I could I move mine in the struggle. Well done and hope Weber heed your advice at source.

Nice analysis and solution. Presented and explained in a great way! I'm quite used to adapt or modify more than 50% of nowadays gear, much with totally inappropriate design or production. And not only made in China or just produced there. Looks always great in the webshop since you can finally hold it in your hands and then remark, it has to be modified to get the proper function it was sold for. ...... and now also god old Weber .....

Nice work and many thanks for detailed vid, I'm gonna try this on mine. My "remove one of the springs" improved things for me (and it for some reason manages to keep the lid up quite steadily on my 5775) but it is still less than perfect when I did more leak testing; even single spring in a wrong position seems to generate enough llft to make seal less than perfect over repeated "casual" open/close cycles. I went though 3 points of sale over here to see if any of them had an E-5775 in showroom that seals properly. The answer is no, none of the model units had nowhere near proper seal. So hopefully this vid is gonna help a lot of people.

@@barbecuepitboss7572 Did the mod/hack and it really helped, seems to be as about good seal as one can expect without any gasket in there. Final adjustment of hinge position is a bit tricky with springs in new locations, but once I found a 11 mm flexhead ring spanner ratchet it was quite fast too. Thx again, I bet a lot of people will be doing this hack.

I tried this and works. I found that it was easier to take the spring off from the bottom and it only needed one screwdriver. After re-positioning them I was able to pull the springs up and hook them on using only my index finger. I used my other hand to adjust the angle of the hinge to help me hook them over the top holes. Took me about five mins total.

Hello Juan, You can try this also.. get 2-4 6mm stainless steel washers and place them on the Bottom studs of the Kettle hinge mount BETWEEN the hinge and the OUTSIDE of the kettle. This will help to tip the hinge giving a little better fit. You will have to try it 1-2 times depending on the thickness of the washer. It does Not have to be a thick washer! ... 10 cent coin thickness is fine! Let me know if it works for you! In my opinion & experience the lid will never seal and be smoke tight.

Hi! Followed your instructions and moving the springs worked like a charm. Here’s to the problem - the lid still wont lay flat all around. I’ve loosened the hinge and re-positioned it a thousand times, even while the lid was pressed down with some force. It still leaks smoke from left and right, sometimes just one of the sides. It’s hard not to think that I should have picked a kettle without this new hinge... This is my first experience with Weber aswell.... Thanks a lot for video, it’s still 50% better atleast.

Hello Joseph, No matter how hard you work on it... it will always leak a little bit. 😒 Even my standard 2015 Master Touch leaks air sometimes. There is one last thing you can try that might help you with this problem... Get 4 stainless steel washers with wide edges.. also called fender washers.. and place 1 or 2 on each of the Bottom KETTEL studs for the hinge! 6mm-5/16 ? The bottom bolts on the square plate that is installed on the inside of the kettle! The washers go on the OUTSIDE of the kettle and then the hinge bracket mounted on those. Try this ONLY on the BOTTOM bolts and this can help tip the hinge angle to help seal the lid to the kettle. Let me know how it goes and if you understand exactly what I mean. Thanks for checking out my video! Grill On🔥 and Have a Good One!

Hello Qiaozhi Hei, There is 1 last thing that can be done to shut the grill off and kill the coals.. loosen the black plastic wing nut to separate the hinge and remove the lid from the hinge. Now replace the lid back on the kettle with the hinge now off set and not touching! This will let the lid sit on the kettle as it should and let the coals go out faster. Be VERY CAREFUL in the next hour or two because if you use the handle to lift up the lid thinking it is still attached to the hinge it will be on the ground faster than you can blink!! Trust me on this! My lid shows the battle scars of hitting the concrete patio! 🤬 Hope this helps you. Thanks for checking out my videos! Have a Good One!

Hello again Scott 😉 When you get time to check it... stand behind the hinge.. (hinge close to you).. and take both hands and place your thumbs on the lid on the lip edge about a hand away from the hinge and one at a time pinch down and feel for movement. Try this one side at a time to see if the back edge of the lid is sitting up a millimeter or so. You might be able to hear it also as you press it down. Put your index (pointing) finger on the kettle bottom under the lid lip and Pinch it down. Then you can easily feel for movement! Smoke some ribs and look for leaks is also a way to check... but at that time you can’t adjust anything. You can work on it for days but you will never seal it 100% ! There is NO Gasket on a kettle like this so it will always leak something! The spring fix will cure 98% of your problems! Keep me updated and I’ll help where I can!

MrMnmn911 I personally have not seen a change in the last year production on the hinge. Weber might have changed the design to the hinge.. ( my idea as to the problem) but I haven’t see or heard any thing about it. Even if it was caused by having the springs installed incorrectly.. the pull angle of the springs on the hinge could have been better. This would have created more down force in the closed position to seal the lid better. Thanks for checking out my video’s. Grill On!

cabbageturnips Hello, My personal recommendation will have to go to the E-5750 “Standard” Master Touch grill. You will be happier in the long run with this grill because it is still based on the normal kettle design with just a few updates like the P shape bowl vents! The risk (with the hinge) of having the lid not close correctly and massive air leaks causing high temps is not worth the risk. Even after I changed the springs on the hinge and placed washer on the bottom hinge bolts to tip the hinge.. I still ran hotter than my standard MT grill. This also effects when you shut down the grill after you are done cooking.. with air leaks on the lid the coals keep burning! It takes hours for the coals to stop burning and that is just a waste of coals and money.

So this was only released in Europe back in 2019? They just announced that this is going to be available in the US for the first time. I hope they sort this problem out. I have a question about cooking with the diffuser plate: have you ever needed to add more wood during the cook? Seems like you would have to remove the cooking grates to do so.

  • @barbecuepitboss7572

    @barbecuepitboss7572

Manuel Arias.. I heard also on Instagram that Weber has released it on the USA market also. I also hope they have learned from the experience here and redesigned the hinge to help with this problem. Yes there was a very hard learning experience trying to figure out exactly how many coals to use for a full cook without running out! The first cook I did with the plate I filled the ring and figured that I could control the temperature with the vents... It was an epic fail as the lid was leaking so much air that the temps were sky high with all vents closed. The day was spent taking a smoking hot pulled pork out of the grill (finding some place to set it) and trying to take red hot briquettes out of the bottom to bring the temps down. The diffuser plate is a good idea that is not really practical in realistic everyday use. The choice is up to you as to what you buy.. but I know what I would buy with my hard earned money.. a Standard Master Touch kettle is proven effective and easy to use. I hope this helps you in your choice! Grill On!

cameltrain100 That was also a problem that I had.. here is what I did to make mine seal even better. Go to the hardware store and get 4 6mm stainless steel washers .. look for the type that has the 6mm hole but are Big on the outside size.. think about a euro coin!! They can be thin and that’s ok.. you can just use 2 stacked. Place 1 each..(to start) on each of the bottom studs on the kettle hinge mount! Between the kettle and the hinge on Both Bottom studs! This will tip the hinge in a way that sits the back of the lid lower. You will need to adjust the bolts again on the hinge to make sure it’s sitting straight and closed. I know it’s a ton of work but it helps. You might have to do it 2-3 times.. if it works with 1 washer you can try 2 on EACH bottom stud bolt.. if it’s not that much better.. take one washer out. I hope this helps. Thanks for checking out my video! Grill On 🔥

  • @barbecuepitboss7572

Personally I would recommend the Standard Master Touch! I had too many problems with the hinge and air leaks! Because of the air leaks it is very hard to run it low and slow! The plate and ring looks like a cool idea... but in the real life I had also too many problems... running way to hot or coals burning up and no easy way to add more coals in the middle of the cook! The plate is great until you have all the fat and drippings burnt to a crisp on it! My advice is to buy the standard Master Touch and look hard at the Slow’n Sear and the Drip’n Griddle for keeping the kettle clean! Both items from Slow’n Sear are game changers for any Weber kettle! Hope this helps you! Thanks for checking out my videos! Grill On 🔥 Have a good one!

@@finnishchaga It’s not the plate and ring that make it run hot... it’s the hinge and the lid that does not close good causing air leaks! If you can not seal the lid down good enough, air leaks in and that extra air is like a extra vent to keep the coals burning hot! The other problem I had was a good snake will run longer than the amount of coals in the ring. With all the problems it’s just not worth the headache 🤕. The basic Master Touch is still a great barbecue and a better buy! Upgrading a basic Master Touch with a Slow’n Sear and the matching Drip’n griddle is truly The Way To Go! And still way cheaper than a Kamado type grill.

    5 жыл бұрын

Hello again Mirko 😉, Yes the entire 2 part smoking ring and plate set can go into any 22”-57cm Weber kettle... the problem here is that Weber is NOT Selling the parts without the grill. You don’t NEED the smoking kit to use it as a smoker... people have smoked on this type of kettle for 20-30-40+ years and they did not have it. It does have some benefits but you can live without it. I have a Slow ‘n Sear and I can easily smoke using that setup or even the basic Snake charcoal setup. The benefit from the ring and plate from Weber is the fact that it is centered in the grill and that gives very even heat and smoke! You can then “pack” the grill with a larger brisket or fully loaded with ribs and NOT have a hot side of the grill! One drawback to this setup would be that if you did not put enough briquettes in for the amount of meat or the length of the cook.. you would have to completely disassemble the cook to ADD more coals! Meat off of the cooking grate, cooking grate off the kettle, fat & drippings coated diffuser plate out of the kettle just to add more coals or more smoking wood!! Not exactly what you want to have to do 70% though the cook! Once you have it dialed it with the size of meat and the hours of cooking time you will know how to set it up and know what to expect out of it! Weber has the WSM and that is a fantastic dedicated smoker ... but if space or $ is limited you could do the same cooks in this grill by using the smoking kit! But it will never be as easy to use as a dedicated smoker! I hope this info helps you! 😉

A S’nS in your kettle is great for super hot searing or even Hot and Fast Ribs! It’s also great for low and slow Pulled Pork type cooks! The new E-5775 has the diffuser plate and charcoal ring... the biggest benefit that I have found is with the smoke rolling up ALL the way AROUND the kettle and the heat directly in the middle I can put more meat on the entire cooking grate and not have over smoked or over cooked proteins because of one sided indirect heat and smoke! The new “P” vents on the New MT and the New MT Premium are a big improvement for smoking!! So with both 2019 New Type MT grills you can’t go wrong! NO! I won’t stop using my S’nS.. If I don’t do it that way it will suck air in even with the vents closed and 4 hours later the coals are still burning. Great if you’re in the business of selling coals, but not really handy for the user.

@@barbecuepitboss7572 that’s the most confusing part of the product - it’s designed as a smoker - with the diffuser plate and the new P shaped holes in the bottom - but if the lid doesn’t fit correctly - is it fit for purpose - or am I missing something???? Surely they don’t want the gap to be there??

@@gommer365 We got this model a year earlier in Europe and I was hoping they would get it fixed before the USA release... but I guess it didn’t happen. What I have heard and seen.. is Not All of them have this problem! A buddy of mine got one in Europe also and in one shot it was perfect! Now I’m no expert on putting things together 😉... I’m a Detroit auto mechanic! 😜 I can fix almost anything... but I can’t fix stupid! I don’t know what to say... but I would not risk buying one of these if I can get a standard Master Touch!

Hello 1mic, This grill is not yet for sale in North America and is only being sold in Europe as of now. Seeing as there are a few problems with some of the grills and there hinge assembly that is a good thing for you. With a little luck it will get a new design on the hinge before you can buy it in the states! Thanks for checking out my video! Grill On 🔥 and Have a Good One!

I can highly recommend one of the NEW colored Master Touch grills that are ONLY being sold on Weber.com !!! These new colors have the New “P” shaped bottom kettle vents! This is the latest design change and works Great for doing a Low & Slow cook! My personal favorite is the Smoke Grey color! It’s kind of like a black chrome / platinum type color! I hope this helps you!

After I tweaked everything it was acceptable. Even a brand new Weber Master Touch will leak a little. But this was super excessive until I fixed it. After all the work to seal it and all the hassle with long smokes and the diffuser plate setup… I’m now back with a standard Master Touch as my primary kettle! This is also my recommendation instead of this model with the hinge setup. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the praises… long story short.. this grill was given to me from Weber in The Netherlands. This model came out in Europe a year before the USA release and I was lucky enough to get to try it out early. Unfortunately I spent a lot of time fighting it and dealing with run away temperatures due to air leaks. Being a mechanic from Detroit I looked at it with different eyes than most people and knew I could find a way to make it better! I no longer have this grill and it is now being passed around in our Weber grill group here so more people can try it out. Thanks again for the good words. Grill On 🔥 and Stay Safe out there! . Side note… since I made the video Weber has never made contact with me. 😏

Hello PJ, From what I have heard locally .. the problem is not 100% of the grills/hinges! Many of them close without any problems🤷🏼‍♂️ I agree that the design is good but it might be manufacturing tolerances are not tight enough and some hinges are not “as designed” and show the problem. Thanks for checking out my video! Grill On🔥 and Have a Good One!

the problem is not to get the front of the lid to close all the way down and back up the real problem is to get the lid to close completely so no air is getting out on the side of the lid. ill like to see you put on a piece of wood and get it to smoke and you will see that you have smoke coming out from the sides of the lid/kettle

Like in this video?? kzread.info/dash/bejne/pWR2uMauipvRj7g.html Nope! No leaking smoke! If you still have leaking smoke at the sides and back by the hinge than you need to readjust the hinge position to the kettle after you move the springs 😏
