This is the thing about my religion is that we don't suppress culture. We let people do their own thing. Tribal communities of North East India identify as hindu though they have their own tribal rituals way way different from Hindus of rest of India. In Bali they have a different ramayan but nobody ever criticized the difference between indian and Indonesian ramayan. Very proud of my culture.

Wow. Thanks for making this great video. As an Indian I am so happy to see the hindu culture so well preserved in Bali. One small correction is that the Eagle that helps Sita is Jatayu, Not Garuda. Garuda is actually considered undefeatable and Ravana would have been no match for Garuda.

I saw this same performance when I was in Bali almost a decade ago, but in a different location, and I had forgotten all about the sounds of the Kechak! I remember finding the sounds very strange and amusing at the time.

Really fascinating seeing the mix of Indo-European and Austronesian religious traditions in Balinese Hinduism. The offering of lime and betel nut is incredibly widespread across many different Austronesian traditions. A group of anthropologists also did research in the Balinese highlands and Balinese ancestor worship has clear parallels with Polynesian beliefs, syncretised with Vedic Hindu ideas of the Pitṛs.

Shame. It's Austro-asiatic origin. The original inhabitants that took on these ideals were the ancestors of the Malay, Javanese, Cham, Khmer, Mon, Balinese, Sundanese and the list goes on. The original inhabitants of Sundaland were Negritos and Austroasiatics. And genetics prove that. These different "Austronesian traditions" are no more than adopted when they encountered the austorasiatics practicing the culture already. Look at the similarities between the Mon, Khmer, Cham, and Javanese, Balinese and Malay. The true descendants are those of Philippines culture and to the east toward Polynesia. With some mixture of the western Indonesian (indigenous) and later Madagascar when they migrated there. The Indonesians look like Austronesians because they're half of them. But it's not the full picture. The thick long hair Balinese have is Austro-asiatic as well. Clothes also Austroasiatic. Search "Balinese people" and "Mon / Khmer people" on Google.

Not only that, but the whole of South Asia, like Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos, Bhutan, Tibet, Myanmar, Nepal were all Hindu + Buddhist nations before the rise of Islamization over there, rishis, sadhus went for meditation, spirituality and etc. So yeah... South Asia was originally Hindu.

BTW Hanuman might not be a monkey, Hanuman and his people were called as Vānar which means men of the forest because they lived in the forests, he was a learned person with knowledge of Yogic powers and other Sanskritic knowledge, he might have been a Neantherthal as he looked different than us

Though 87% of Indonesian r Muslim. We still love watching Mahabharat series etc etc... We don't know why... The Mahabharat series are so popular here, the actors of the movie came to Indonesia and a lot of Muslim fans greet them with so muchhh joyyy :')... Yes so many of em are handsome :3

Just few corrections , when Ravana kidnapped mother Sita , the bird which stopped him was jatayu not Garuda as garuda is the vahana of Lord Visnu ! Beautiful documentary ! Beautiful video ! The voice behind the video feels like David Attenborough!
