Thank you so much for this. I always wondered about that little white shed-like building to the right of the screen at 2:20. Looked like the kind of place JD and Belker would set up a bootleg distillery. There was also another shot of that street with the squad car headed in the opposite direction and passing a woman with two toddlers. Where are they now I wonder. 🚔 2:20

Love the video! Brought back a lot of memories of my favorite show and my hometown (Chicago). A few possible corrections. The shot from the opening credits (at about 2:16 in the video) can't be Halsted St. as that runs parallel to the Dan Ryan Expressway (I90/I94). I've always thought it was on 18th Street looking west from around DesPlaines or Jefferson. That would fit too because DesPlaines was (and I believe still is) one way going northbound (notice the One Way sign next to the old white building in the shot). And it places the Ryan (which is elevated at that point) in the background. A lot has changed there (same as with all the comparisons you included) but if you try a Google Earth search for that intersection, you'll see what I mean. Next at 2:30, the Ryan expressway runs parallel (for the most part) with the north/south streets, it doesn't run on top on them. What that shot shows is a railroad viaduct that a street passes under. I've always thought the shot was Halsted but it very well may be Morgan, as you show. In that neighborhood there is a RR viaduct just north of 16th on each of those N/S streets (Union, Halsted, Peoria, Morgan, etc.) so it could be any one of those. Great job tracking everything down. That's commitment!!

I was rushing to get it done hence the poor wording. . I asked in a Chicago group most said Halstead, a couple did say 18th. Thing is walking around that area with the Dan Ryan and the underpass it all does look similar. Difficult thing now it has changed so much from that time. Thanks for the input.

@@hsbfan8629 - I'm 100% positive that this shot was taken on what used to be the corner of W 14th Street and S Peoria Street. It's the middle of the field complex now. It's not apparent at first but if you watch these shots closely, you will notice that the expressway is tilted slightly to the left. It's because on the section between tracks and Roosevelt Road the expressway goes from elevated to ground level. This gives two possible locations for a shot like this - W 14th Street and W 14th Place. However, this big ass building in the background is the St. Luke's hospital main building and the smokestack used to be a part of the boiler building. St. Luke's hospital main building stands to this day and hosts Lake Vista Apartments today. You can even see a small superstructure on the left side of the roof. In the opening it is seen to the right of the street, which was only possible on W 14th Street. Had it been filmed W 14th Place, the building would have been seen on the left. Also you may notice that the background BELOW the expressway viaduct is actually monotonously yellow (-ish). That's because this is the southern building of the UPS warehouse, as seen from W 14th Street.
