Thanks Dave, I also did the C50 Hik dance and agree with your comments. Handy video as i also have both, either does the job when required and as you say, the 4k clarity and the iris, is top notch. Shooting rabbits on a light night, a torch isn't necessary as both pick up targets due to their technology. Hope to meet up sometime as we are both from same area.

Hello Dewayne, thank you matey, I’m getting around a bit better now but relying on George to run me around if need be. I’ve just reminded Robin about my Birthday in June, that invitation was for you too, but appreciate the distance involved. Great review, yes the new one is better but on a budget the old one will do the job just fine especially with a PBIR.

Yes I’m sure it will, as I mentioned, there will be many other torches available that would light up the moon and beyond, and users will all have their favourite ones, that provide excellent results. Great response to the video and thanks for writing in and letting folks know about your torch choice 👍👍

Imho, the torch you used did not help at longer ranges. It didn't seem to be flood to spot. At 300, you need to tighten the beam towards spot and the image quality leaps up. The torch the mk1 came with is excellent spot to flood and adjustable power. Start on low and wide. Tighten the beam so your screen is covered and them ramp up power to a level it is clear. Also - by changing the Fstop (iris) you should also change the depth of field so close and further targets stay in focus. Finally, splitting the screen might have shown the clarity even better. Excellent vid...... 🎉🎉🎉

Hello Simon , I know there are so many ways to obtain a better picture, but I choose the Cyanski torch because that’s what I tend to use on stuff I often do. It has no adjustment on the beam at all, unlike the original torch the Alpex is supplied with. I was just trying to show the scopes performance in as simple way as possible. I’m sure with a few options, the footage would be much better indeed, with the perfect light combination. Thanks very much for watching and taking the time to write in 👍 David

Hello Keith , Ah yes ! I had the very same conversation with Johnny Allen this morning about this. He’s going to get a new Mk2 lrf to replace his ATN he’s been using for a few years. Andy Taylor has got one, and he LOVES it 👍

Brilliant review,I was considering the mk2,and this answers all my questions,but could you please please please do a review on the sub£1200 thermal scopes on the market now,especially the ones that can be used as a front add on.Or is there one which you’d recommend.I’d like one that can shoot rabbits out to 60yrds and foxes out to 100 cheers

I’m sure there are much better torches out there, as I mentioned. Everyone will have their own favourite torches and one that will be far better than the very basic Cyanski one I used. But I hope it shows that even with a cheaper torch , and even without one, the images can be quite spectacular.

Good comparison, ive just bought the 4k version. You mention quick release mounts for gun swapping, do you find when changing to another gun and selecting the appropriate profile etc that you need to check and amend zero before shooting quarry? I only mention it because ive put mine in a sportsmatch hop 92 which is a high quality 1 pc qd mount and put picatinny rails on my 243, 223 and 22lr with the intention of using on all. Recently when i moved the scope back to the 243 from 223 and checked zero i was about 2" left and 1 high at 100m compared to when initially zerod. (Found out after missing a fox) I make sure to put it back in the same slots each time etc and select the correct profile. Is this normal or to be expected? Its not the end of the world but with the price of cf ammunition, its not ideal to be have to be checking all the time and would put me off too frequent gun swapping etc. Thanks

Hello Stephen, Good question ! I use Warne return to zero mounts on my scopes . They’re not cheap, but they do exactly what the box says . I did do a video about the mounts, using the same scope on three different rifles and proved that they did work. You’re right about making sure your scope goes back on the same picatinny slots though, if mine are going part way down the rail, I’ll put a dab of white paint on the side of the rail where the rear mount sits 👍 I have to use two piece mounts because two of my Lithgow rifles have single mounting points each side of the ejection port. They sound good!, to be fair the sportsmatch mount isn't cheap either, about 140-190 depending where you buy it and it's very well made. 260 rips ( mark Ripley) demonstrated this mount on a KZread video successfully returning to zero and swears by them. Maybe it's because I zeroed on windy days despite trying to tuck inside a hedge out of the wind.... sometimes it's just always blowing 😂 Trouble is also, the 243 which I'm basing most of my findings on is a rifle I haven't had long, so still settling in to things and trying new ammunition, the alpex is my first digital scope too, I'm sure I'll get there🤞 I think it's just one of those, until I build up a confidence in the whole set up, I'll have to check and burn a few more cartridges.

@stephenoshea1166 make sure you’re on a good solid mount too. Bean bags and get a good three points of contact position. Front of rifle 1 Right elbow 2 Left elbow 3 No wind or if you can have it behind you would be better. Make sure all the bits that can work loose aren’t . Mounts, moderator etc…. You’ll get there 👍👍

WITHOUT ANY DOUBT ! They’ve made some huge leaps forward with this new system, and now there’s a facility to playback any footage through the viewfinder. I’ve just watched Pheasant and a Woodpecker I filmed with mine, and it’s stunning.
