Whoooo Hoooooo! It is that time of the year!!! The 2024 Danny S. hiking season has begun!!! We just finished watching your video. Great way to start the weekend off! I am not sure when you filmed that video, but it was pretty crazy to see snow in May. 😊 I don’t believe I have ever had a Morel mushroom before. Are they like truffles and considered delicacies? How do you prepare them? Do you eat them just like regular button mushrooms? Do you have any recipes in mind? I am a big fan of a Porterhouse covered in grilled mushrooms with butter sauce, often referred to as a heart attack on a plate. 😊 Wow, not sure how you found that little guy. It has perfect camouflage. That is like finding a needle in a stack of needles. My Mom and I both said it looks like a walnut. 😊 You definitely have a good eye! Glad to see Lolly back on the trail for sure. Hopefully she can sniff some down for you! OMG, we had to re-watch the rabbit’s foot part. At first, we thought you were joking, but upon further review, holy cow, that was an actual rabbit’s foot!!! I would lean on the side of not lucky, especially if you were the rabbit. ☹ Loved the shot of the small creek. That area is so beautiful. That was a crazy tree trunk at the 6:45 mark. We thought it was a fisheye lens effect at first, but realized it was not. Holy cow, was that trunk bent. 😊 That was a sweet blade you had there! 😉 Oh BOY!!! We are totally excited about your plans for this summer!!! Okay, when you said you had to fly over a bunch of water to get to your first hike, I immediately thought Alaska, but then my Mom said Hawaii. We cannot wait to see where you end up!!! Oh, we are so glad you are going back to the Cabinets!!! It was a bit of a soul crusher to have that one cut short. We could only imagine what you felt like. That was such a GORGEOUS area!!! Make sure you keep an eye out for things that may be lurking around at night. Just kidding, I remember your buddy’s story of something waking him up at night. Watch out for the wolves and grizzlies as well!!! OMG, those “off the trails” hikes sound awesome!!! Especially the uncharted / remote mountain lake adventures!!! Good Lord, I could not imagine rafting across a remote lake hiking out the back side of it. That will be INSANELY AWESOME!!! My Mom did say you need to be careful, especially by yourself!!! Hopefully, you will have some company on those. It would be the understatement of the year to say, we cannot wait to see those!!! You may just break the Internet when you publish those!!! I have never heard of a hot tent, but that sounds awesome!!! We absolutely love it when you check out the local lakes and mountain hikes. We love all your destinations, but local places are our favorite!!! Lolly looked like she was the queen of the forest sitting on that log. 😊 That stream she stopped in was crystal clear. Just amazing!!! Just curious, with no trails, how did you make it back to the truck after such a long hike? Did you have your GPS? We hope you make a video preparing Morels one day! We are very excited about your 2024 plans. Hopefully, all goes well. You do a great job each year and somehow figure out how to out do the previous year. It always seems impossible, but WOW, your 2024 adventures may just be your best adventures yet!!! Hopefully your camper is ready this season and can make a few cameos too! Be well and stay safe!!!

Great video Danny! Love mushroom foraging almost as much as backpacking. Always good practice to leave those really small ones to not only get bigger but also give them time to release spores. I know they're hard to pass up though 😁 Can't wait follow along with your trips this year!

Thanks for the tip there! We left for vacation right at prime picking season but I definitely think I’ll be making this a yearly hobby now. Looking forward to posting some vids here. Thanks for sticking around through the winter season!

Danny - good to see you out and about - IDK who all you know/follow but if you want hot tent info I'd say check out Midwest Backpacker, Rob Pelton or its good in the woods. Used to do this as a kid and of course the haul went back to Grandmas where she just saute'd them in butter....Just awesome.

Sorry for the late response here. We’ve been out of the country for the last couple of weeks! Nice to hear from you. I’ll definitely check out those channels so thanks for the suggestions. Hoping to snag a hot tent setup this fall. And yes! Sautéed morels in butter are the best.

Calf's brains are edible I pick the and eat them every spring just mak sure they are the orange ones. You should checkout all of the lakes here in the Wallowa wilderness here in Eastern Oregon.

Maybe I’ll dabble more into them next season! Thanks for the info. I absolutely want to do some more exploring in Oregon. Any trail suggestions in particular?
