Hiking the Carters in the White Mountains of NH
Chasing down those 48 highest summits leads me to this loop hike which goes over the summits of Middle Carter, South Carter, and Carter Dome.
12 miles covered on an all day hike.
Chapters:
00:00 Road Walk to Camp Dodge
01:09 Junction onto Imp Trail which is then 4 miles to the ridge
02:28 A nice campsite and confusion about the trail
05:48 Making it to the trail junction onto the ridge and AT
10:33 Summit of Middle Carter
12:24 Coming up to South Carter summit
16:07 Carter Dome summit
19:34 Zeta Pass intersection and Carter Dome trail descent
22:10 Intersection to Nineteen Mile Brook Trail and final miles to the car

Alright. Next time I feel I want to go that way, I will make Hight a priority destination!
Love all of your videos, this one especially. I admire your tenacity! You give me inspiration!

You can do it! The thing that has helped me most is letting go of "all or nothing thinking." Just doing a little bit of the trip and being willing to cut it short when it gets bad has let me go a little farther than I thought I could.
Great way to tag the 3 Carters. Congrats getting 3 more NH48! I've done those in the reverse way Hut->Carter Dome->South and Middle Carter and back to the hut. The way up Carter Done is a stair climb. Only benefit was going up Height is a little shorter.

Thanks for the info! That sounds like a worthwhile loop, especially in the off-season when I like to visit the hut.
12:17 take a look upwards on the trail
a bold and brave and refreshing victory plunge :-]
You barely scared meat and cheese on your sanner. Coffee 👍 Beautiful scenery! Enjoy your hike. Woo hoo! What was that at the top of that big rock 🪨? Was it a bear or a person look back at your blog.

Yes, it was a chocolate Labrador retriever. I was going to video him coming down the rocks but he kept going back and forth to warn his owner of the crazy lady with the camera. I got to meet him and he was a very nice dog. I am surprised so many viewers caught sight of him in the shot! Good eye.

@@RachelWhelton hahaha 🤣 movement always catches my eye in the woods. That’s funny I’m glad I wasn’t the only one seeing it. Nice video.
Wow, lots of stamina, another major hike after a trip to Madison. GL in your quest for the 48 and BTW, the Canada Jay will land in your hand and take just about anything you offer them. My understanding is that they stash what they take and come back to it later when food is scarce.

Wow, nice comment, thanks. Now my kids can see this and realize they have a cool mom.
Got a little turned around there on the Imp Trail but you figured it out. Hight may not be an official 4k but it has the best views on the whole ridge - don’t skip it next time! That dunk certainly looked well earned and refreshing.

Yeah. I could see myself going up there again to stay again at the hut and go up by the boulders that way. So if I do that, I'll go to Hight too.
Ummm. Wow. Black Bear looking directly down at you at 12:18 . Did you notice it?

It's a chocolate lab. I got to meet her but ended up deleting the clip because it took her a while to come down those rocks. Actually earlier in the hike I heard a big crack of a tree and felt sure there was a moose. But I deleted that part too because I never saw the moose or heard any other sounds. You never know out there!

@@RachelWheltonhow funny. Yeah. I thought for sure it was a bear.
Hi Rachel. My husband and I were watching your video when he said he spotted a bear. He backed it up and at approx 12:16 its at the top of the trail walking across. I realize they are usually afraid of people. Omg, I hope you carry bear spray. Love your beautiful videos.

OMG. I think you’re right! I slowed it down to 1/4 speed and watched it and it does look like a bear. 😮
