Hiking the Albanian Alps 🇦🇱 | Theth, Valbona Pass, Blue Eye

The first of two videos from my two weeks in Albania in May 2024. I start my journey in Shkodër, a city in the north of the country. From here, I catch a bus to Theth, a village deep in the Accursed Mountains (otherwise known as the Albanian Alps). I spend three nights at a traditional Albanian guesthouse on a farm and explore the mountains. I hike to Valbona Pass and back, to Grunas Waterfall, and to the Theth Blue Eye. Some truly amazing hiking country. Leaving Theth, I get a ride with Jen and Wendy, who I met at the guesthouse, all the way to Gjirokaster in the South of Albania.

OMG, what fantastic scenery, I didn't realize Albania was so mountainous...just beautiful. Those bridges could do with abit of a tickle up, OHS would have a field day if it were NZ. Keep living your best life JP, great video.

Wow what a beautiful country! The lovely green of the trees and views. Love the stone buildings. Any wild animals?

Yes some of those buildings in the mountains were pretty awesome! There were lots of small lizards and snakes, but not too much else 😀

It’s a shame Albania has such a negative reputation. Thanks for showing the great scenery - nothing like what I expected and presumably nowhere near as touristy as much of Western Europe. I’m based in the UK so it’s only a few hours away and now somewhere I’ll consider visiting, and of course tramping in the mountains. I’m impressed by you carrying rucksacks Jared, especially when you seem to find yourself walking real distances around to your accommodation! Hope the drone footage is working well for you and I look forward to seeing the results later in the year. Not sure H&S would approve of the footbridges though!

Yes it’s definitely a beautiful country and definitely not as many people around compared with Western Europe! It’s definitely worth a visit! I thought the same about those footbridges - some of them were pretty shaky 😂
