Hiking Mount Ijen at sunrise (Kawah Ijen) has been one of the best things we have done in all of Indonesia. The colours of the amazing blue lake at the top when the sun hits it is incredible. This is part 3 of our East Java Vlog series and we loved seeing Mount Bromo, Tumpak Sewu and now Mount Ijen is the perfect way to end our time in Java.

It is tough waking up at 12am to start your day, but it was worth every moment. We managed to hike to the summit of Mount Ijen, watch the sun light up the beautiful blue lake at the top and then enjoyed ourselves in this amazing part of Indonesia.
After climbing up to the top of a few volcanoes now, we can say that this is our favourite. It is worth hiking to the to of Mount Ijen if you are visiting Java, because it will be an experience you will never forget.

U guys really visit the most beautiful places in Indonesia. I wonder where its gonna be for ur next destination? Anyway I highly recommend u guys to visit Komodo island, Gili islands and Sumba island. All of these islands are right next to Bali.

We’ve spent the last two years in Asia and Australia and have acclimatised to the heat 🌞 so this was very cold for us 😂

We had the masks, but didn’t need them. You only really need it for going down to the water to see the blue flame. Other than that you don’t smell the sulphur ☺️
