From what I've experienced and have been told about grizz behaviour, that sow would have treed both those cubs if she thought he was a threat. Normaly when there's potential prey in sight, mama will keep her cubs in tow to learn how to hunt successfully. Dude is VERY lucky on this day. They might have just had a big meal recently.

Kids were taught bear safety just like we were taught street safety. It wasn't really a big deal. I couldn't count how many times I was face to face with a bear as a kid.

That reminds me of when I was hiking and had a mom and cubs following. Not as close mind you and we went on opposite sides of the lake along its length. She didn't seem to mind at all. At the end of the lake, she went into the woods off of the trail. We met up again at the parking lot. She recognized me and gave a short huff of recognition while the tourists did their stupid things.

Be blessed that it wasnt confrontational. Its rare for this to happen, especially with cubs!

Bears run upwards of 35-40 miles an hour and the fastest man alive clocks in about 28mph so good luck with that.

The mother knew that this man wouldn't harm her children, so she remained calm.

He was already close enough to be considered a threat by most momma Grizzlies, but this one would probably have walked past him without a care.

I don't know about that? As Jeffrey mentioned, one wrong, or missed step could've triggered an attack, or bad reaction by mother bear? If mom saw him as a threat, she would send her cubs up a tree, then attack him. If he moved off of the trail, they would likely just go on by and leave him alone. She displayed no aggressive behavior, but EXTREMELY CONCERNING!

I disagree with walking off the track and letting them pass. That’s a good way to get killed. He did the best he could do just slowly backing up until safe. ESPECIALLY if you’re by yourself. You never isolate yourself further. Every Predators instinct will take advantage of that

@@absolutelypro4612 Wrong! He was never in any danger. The bear family showed no aggression. It's the instinct of everything in the entire world to take the path of least resistance, hence both the bears and the human using the trail instead of trekking through vegetation. It was just a case of two different species using the same trail at the same time.

Externally it may seem like he wasn't't panicking but I'm sure internally he was terrified . I bet for the next couple of days he really appreciated life in a way he hadn't before

I’ve had some crazy wildlife experiences but never had a camera with me. I’ve been face to face with a brown bear, a bull moose and a mountain lion. Also seen a HUGE great white shark bumping up against the boat I was fishing in.
