"Beeshup"?
Alireza vs Gukesh shows that when you eliminate the huge amounts of prep and it boils down to sheer tactics and positional understanding and quickness of mind, Alireza is still a class apart. Fischer bemoaned that Chess is just memorization and we see that more and more every day, with players looking up at the sky for 30 minutes, not calculating but actually recalling what they've learned. The space for creativity is dwindling in Chess, but Alireza is one last ditch effort at reclaiming it.
@thebiglebrowski3695
Ай бұрын
Firouzja shows that when you are too lazy to prepare properly, you will not do well. Let's not pretend that his win was anything other than a lucky win against a player who imploded. He was dead to rights for most of the game. Even with that win, he is still aecond from the bottom and easily the moat underperforming player in the tournament. Alireza isn't last ditch effort at reclaiming anything. He isn't doing well.
@extremelynoobgaming4742

Fischer wasn't wrong, chess is still a game of memorization, if not then we would've been superior to AI chess engines
@thesurrealist7
Ай бұрын
@@thebiglebrowski3695 I'm not basing it on one match, I'm basing my comment on what I've seen from Firouzja over the years. The same reason Magnus said he wouldn't compete in the World Championship unless it was against Firouzja. The same reason that when they met in Chess 360 and prep was off the board, Alireza was leading Magnus before losing the overall tie. Also calling that an implosion from Gukesh is funny. He didn't implode. He played like a Super GM who is human. Meaning he did not play perfect computer moves and therefore gave an advantage to Alireza which he seized. Gukesh didn't commit any big blunder in the endgame. Just because you can see the perfect engine moves online doesn't mean you rate the players on whether they play that engine move or not. Nor does it mean they imploded if they don't have 99.99 percent accuracy. Gukesh played a very good game, but was overwhelmed in the endgame under time pressure by one of the best blitz players in the world.
@sdarkfx9676
Ай бұрын
@@extremelynoobgaming4742 Even in chess-960 AI engines will still bend any GM over, just because they don't have panic, emotions factor. They'll coldly make the best move in the position, and it doesn't matter even if this move requires 50 more ideal ones in order to really matter. People just don't calculate that deep. But chess is, indeed, a game of memorization.
@alikarooni9713
Ай бұрын
@@thebiglebrowski3695 I agree with you. Alireza must study a lot more chess. But, if any of other seven players of tournament (and maybe not Hikaru) had the same amount of preparation as Alireza, you would not even bothered watching their game! They would be some kids goofing around. But this does not take the chance of well preparation if one could have.
Love it when these classical games turn into absurd blitz scrambles at the end

Great job Levy, the suspense and beginner/intermediate analysis is so awesome. It’s obvious that you favor certain players for your viewer base, I can’t blame you for that. But, how you cover these games makes me believe if the viewer interest was aligned elsewhere, you’d still feed it excellently. Not only a great player, but a great commentator. I’ve been trying out chess since December, really trying to learn, and you, Levy, with your qwerkyness, knowledge, humor, and clarity do the game justice for us learning to love it. I do see how certain GMs are potentially envious of your financial success or popularity, and how they can potentially find you disingenuous. However, I fundamentally disagree, and you should be respected for bringing more value to the game of chess through your personality and knowledge. I appreciate you, and the game. Love it!!!
