Because ding made the choice, so he was able to prepare himself mentally more before deciding. Ian had to react to dings decision which threw him off. It doesn't feel like world championship match tho, they both are equal, no clear winner. Feel bad for nepo and happy for ding. It's one of the games, where u like both players, so u feel sad and happy at same time.

Ding earned in a big way. Had to work his ass off to get in enough events to qualify for candidates, had to come back in candidates to sneak into the number 2 spot, and then had to fight from being down how many times in this match? He persevered and showed champion heart in a huge way, he deserves it. Grats to Ding.

I was in team Nepo whole match, hoped he will win. But objectively, he had all the chances he needed to win. He threw winning position in game 12, and it was the turning point, not this rapid game. The problem I think that made him loose is that many many times he played too quickly in critical positions, where Ding in place of Ian would never blitz out moves. Congratz to Ding, and big disappointment for Ian and his fans. Edit: even more disappointing than his loss against Magnus. There he had everything in his hand, and yet threw his match lead multiple times☹️

Congrats to Ding! 🎉 He play tough all the way through
Ding not accepting draw just psychologically stunned Nepo! He had already given up most of his time advantage & at that point needed to play precise moves was just overwhelming for him!

Ding was bing chilling.
Despite all toil Ian's not a king. There's just one royal, His name is DING.
Nepo had a uphill battle from the beginning when he locked up his bishop on b1 instead develope his pieces as much as possible.
This is what I keep on saying, Nepo wanted more from a drawn position because he saw Ding’s time but Ding also saw that Nepo wasn’t sharp
Nepo messed a chance to win without going to Tiebreak. No Sony for Nepo and Congratulations, Ding 👑

It was an intense WC!
I don't know if it was intentional by Ding, but going for the double repetition was a brilliant mind game as Nepo probably checked out of the game at that point, assuming they'd play another match in the blitz format.

@@andersj91 So you're reporting that Magnus frequently loses to Ding in chess.
Lesson! Draw. OK! Move On! We had Fun!🎈
Ian doesn't know how to handle the most important situations, a few games earlier he could have won with black and then blundered 6 times in a row, and same here, he could have easily drawn, then blundered. In other words, his level drops during the most important moments. That's not a mark of a champion and that's why he's not a champion. Champions on the other hand increase their level during the most important moments, just like Ding did, so it's 100% deserved.
2 past pawns on the Q wing with the defending K on the K side, refusing the draw was obvious.
