His logic is ridiculous; he expected Alireza to lose for him! Before this final, I respected Hikaru as a reasonable person, but now the mask has fallen off, revealing his true personality. He lost two matches in a row, not just one. He should have accepted the defeat and congratulated his opponent. Instead, he behaved like a child!

This is not new. Hikaru has shown his true colors manh times before. His entitlement leads to him saying dumb stuff like this without even realising. Check the drama with chessbrah a few years ago or when he got cocky vs eric rosen and lost.

In case you missed it: Alireza was expected to recieve a regular break during the tournament. Because of the technical issues during the match with Sevian, he reached the Final later than expected. This is why he asked to start later, so he could have the whole break. Aman Hambleton confirmed that Hikaru had agreed to this, even though he later used it as an excuse to get mad at Alireza and the organizers.

during the Candidates tournament, Abasov complained to the arbiter that Alireza's shoes were making too much noise when he was walking around the rest area. arbiter spoke to Alireza and suggested that he walk more quietly or that he wears a different pair of shoes to the next round. Alireza wasn't too happy about being approached during the game, and didn't like the idea of having to wear different shoes, cos he's Guccireza and his shoes were super fresh 🤣

it's a tricky situation: Hikaru is angry that the match didn't start when it was scheduled; Alireza was not happy because his break time in between matches was gonna be shorter than anticipated. it wasn't Alireza's fault that there were delays during the Sevian match.

The purpose of the break is so Alireza can play well, then he played well, Hikaru then mad why Alireza play well, so he conclude that Alireza didn't need a break, even though that is the purpose of the break, what a clown Edit: and he himself already agrees to it, so what did he expect for Alireza to not play well and just lose? For reminder i also do not like alireza since that suspicious tournament before candidate, but in this situation Hikaru is just plain wrong, insulting someone family is never okay
