When these series were on TV in the 80's I never watched them, thought it was kind of 'sappy', I was judgmental w/o watching any of the shows, now that I'm watching these re runs in you tube I can't stop watching them, we need them in today's so materialistic world where all values had gone down the drain.

I too was too busy. I turned 19 in 83 and was enjoying the clubs, dancing, and our beautiful 80s girls. I still believe they were more beautiful than women today. But I watched reruns later in life. And still watch again from time to time. You're right, the 80s were corny, but I loved every minute of it.

This episode made me cry. The goodly country doctor reminded me of a popular African American doctor in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He had such a reputation of dependability. He was said to have shown such care and compassion to all of his patients. The many stories I have heard about him are just so amazing. Either way, there is something to be said when one embarks upon the simplicity of life, through true genuine service - to G-d's mankind.

Flowers operated a patient-centered medical practice. He never denied quality healthcare to the indigent and uninsured. Although he accepted insurance plans and cash for his services, he also accepted unorthodox forms of payment. In a September 5, 1999, interview with the Pine Bluff Commercial, he said, “I even got paid with pigs, chickens, home-grown vegetables and wild game.” He also maintained flexible operational hours so that his patients would not have to miss work for their medical visits. Furthermore, he often made home visits. Flowers successfully delivered babies who were in the transverse lie position (horizontal in the uterus) during home births when most of his colleagues would typically perform Caesarean sections (C-sections). Flowers received national media coverage in 1954 after he successfully delivered a viable set of conjoined twins born at home.

She wasn't. She was a combination of the creator's mom, grandmas, and aunts all rolled into one. In my opinion Maxine could've easily been based on Mary Wickes!

The greatest thing a child can get is an imagination. Whether it's daydreaming of some unrealistic thing, or building trails in the woods for our bikes. Maybe wishing you could be like Evel Knevel or a girl dreaming of being like Barbie. I built ramps to jump. My imagination helped me build thinking skills or with my hands creating something. Today, children watch videos. They don't create anything or build something. Computers have robbed children of a precious part of childhood.
