I like reading your comments, Leon. We never knew our oldest was adopted .. then I was told when turned 15. He never knew until Dad passed .. a grown man, a loving husband and caring father of 4. Dad loved him more than he did us coz he Chose to love him. He found him abandoned in a park as an infant when Dad was a cop.. adopted him and loved him dearly till the day he died. Still remember the emotional day they hugged and cried coz our big bro had to move out. Dad asked about him first when appeared in my dream too. 😊 Talk about fatherly love.

He just sat there bothering me when l was half asleep and having a hard life of it! So he said..."If you can Bench Press 125 pounds in Bed than you can keep sleeping." So he went got the Barbell as l laid there thinking...Oh Lord Save Me! I did Lift That Weight even though l was only 125 lbs myself...by the Strength of God... and went back to Sleep! Amen

Listen to me, each and every day you wake up is not only a gift, but it is an opportunity to be a blessing to someone. Do for others what your mom did not do for you. My momma left this planet at her own hand. I now am a grandma and I love helping my grandchildren and others who have less than I do. By mid February, I have to find a new place to live with my kitty cat. Despite it all, I wake up looking for an opportunity to bless someone in a small way. When you focus on others, joy WILL return to your heart. I promise you. I hope this helps in some way. Love, Sis Lynn

Its funny how people dont care much until bad has to happen. So sad family cant be seen until then or at all. Strange how people r into themselves instead of the way it needs to me. Ik first hand by family and other ways. They only want but dont care to give. Not sure y some people have a family and cant be one when they have it. Nor can they be there when needed with love in the right way. Its never fun to die alone. I think its wrong to watch this and cry and feel the feelings but cant show the feelings or change for the better from watching these shows. I have seen people do this and lie about how they r like this and its so wrong to even do that. Lies to others and yourself is wrong to do. This world would be a better place if they r like these shows r.

This is so one-sided. So the father is dying and the son has to be the one to make amends - - - but the whole situation is due to the father's lack of care for his son from the get go. As he himself said, he was on a plane somewhere else when his son was born and it remained that way the whole time. Now everyone wants the son to be good to his father...BS!

How is it one-sided? The father was trying to makes amends by taking him on the fishing trip, so he could spend time with his son and do the things that he was too busy to do. If his son gave him a chance, he probably would have asked for his forgiveness. To look at it from another perspective: The father was working hard to provide for his family, and that takes a lot of overtime and business trips (that require flights overseas). Yes, the father should have spent more time with his son, but one can hardly say that he didn't care.

Athena Poe - if you don't understand how an emotionally abused child cannot be required to pay for his or her abuse as an adult by forgiving the parental abuser, then I cannot explain it to you...

  • @athenapoe3377

He wasn't emotionally abused; he was ignored. "Emotional abuse is an attempt to control, in just the same way that physical abuse is an attempt to control another person" (Psychology Today). His father wasn't controlling; he wasn't home because he was working. This can affect a child, but not in the way you explain it.

As I just said, if you don't know what emotional abuse is, I cannot explain it here. You need to read some good psychological text books and not just look up a definition on the internet.. BTW - Just as an aside - Ignoring a person is one way of trying to control that person.

So a father who works hard to make sure his family has a good life is considered an emotional abuser? I think you're being dramatic, maybe because this episode hits a little too close to home for you. I agree that it affected his son, but I don't think the dad's intent was to control him. You were probably looking for a very specific apology from the dad, something like, "I am so sorry that I was never there for you all those years. I want to make up for it now." There could be many reasons why the dad was busy working: he wanted to be more successful than his father (maybe he had a hard life), he was pressured into working hard like his dad (just like he did with his son), he wanted to create a comfortable life for his family, etc....the list goes on.
