I knew I was adopted by the time I was in 1st grade. I didn't have a problem with it at all. Yes, it made for some issues when asked about illnesses or genetic issues, but all I had to do on the paperwork was put "adopted". I never tried to find my birth parents. I figured my "true" parents were the two people who had chosen me for themselves.

Getting out of the army in the 70's after a career with the 82nd and SF I was continually asked about PTSD. There was never a problem with the dying and torture I was involved with but later joining the Florida Highway Patrol and again doing something I was meant for Ifelt a since of belonging to purpose but as I found corruption in which officers were so evil at wanting my demise rather than be exposed I realized what PTSD was like to those who had nightmares. It's being in positions you can't handle and don't belong in.

I understand where he is coming from wanting to know his parents. I felt that the same way. Its nothing on the adopted parents, but we have a right to know and it doesn't always pan out the way we hope. Filling in the medical papers was easier and a sense of peace inside knowing the true answers. Sounds stupid to those who don't know what its like not having those answers. Sometimes finding our natural parents turns out pretty good. So many children who need homes and too many want "babies" because they don't have "baggage". Sad!!

As an Adoptee I know exactly.what the torment he is going through I was adopted and found out at Age 34 twice One was a slip up by my aunt the other in a very brutal way Exactly the same thoughts flowed through my mind as he did However due to my adopted parents being so good to me I refused out of respect for them to look for my birth parents until they were both gone My mom had passed away four years previously and my dad three months after I found out In those remaining three month I was closer to my dad than I had been in the previous thirty four years In that time my dad never knew I knew When he died I then started searching for my birth parents and found my birth moms family

Not right! Your birth parents did not raise you! For whatever reason they realized they were not able to provide for your needs and did the right thing for you. As someone who has two adopted cousins who were loved and cared for by my aunt and uncle, this is offensive.

@@carinnovick2995 you misunderstand the situation Because my parents had been so good to me I decided not to look until my dad was gone There were other reasons why it was important to find my birth family Sadly it is something called a HIDDEN TIME BOMB Hopefully you cousins never need to follow up and find their birth parents I also hope they know that they are adopted because as they say THE TRUTH WILL OUT one day - someday and the consequences could be tragic Sadly adoption records especially from the old days never really checked up or listed health issues So that is where the hidden time bomb is One can live their whole life without knowing and it just takes one slip up by someone or a medical issue to suddenly come up and the world can come crashing down There is a movie called ONE OF THE FAMILY (if I recall the correct name) based on a true story where this woman lived a very happy and contented life until one day she blacked out and crashed into a bus stop They found she had a tumour and needed to be operated on At roughly the same age as me it was revealed that she was actually adopted The hospital needed to get her medical history so she had no choice but to go find her birth parents Likewise with me I had the same issue but not fortunately a brain tumour I have a heredity syndrome that affects 50% of males and 30% of females Having three daughters it was important to know where we stood with them and what to look out for I have seven grandchildren and one of them, male is having issues While not as bad as me it is still very worrying Two of my daughters had learning problems as do three of my grandchildren All part of the condition I have This is why it is of vital importance to know the birth families health status just in case that information is needed farther down the line Actually saying that it is an insult to the adoptive parents is actually been an insult to the birth parents as well as the adopted parents The medical history goes deeper than just the birth family It affects all those connected to the birth family Just because the birth family seems to be fine it does not mean that all is fine I do not look at it as being an insult to my adoptive parents but as an essential part of my life so my children and grandchildren know what the hidden health dangers are and are aware on the consequences and should anything happen they know what action to take Having endured drugs (legal doctored issued drugs to control my syndrome) that made my life a misery while I was taking them, having endured shock treatment to cure me of my condition, having been told he will grow out of it, it’s a habit by doctors believe me it is important to know one’s full medical history The fact that I was adopted and I searched for my birth parents is not because I was not happy with them in any way My biggest regret is not knowing sooner about it b cause when I found out the SECOND TIME it was even more shocking than the fist time when my wife found out and decided in all fairness to tell me Reason being is that if I had found out that she knew and never said a word it could have destroyed our marriage The fact that I connected with my birth family is secondary to the medical history There is also another danger of not knowing and that is siblings marrying each other unknowingly - it does happen and the results of that can be very catastrophic So please don’t say you feel insulted Before you make comments like that try rationalise the reason why adoptees look for their birth parents The choice to look for one’s birth parents is upto the adoptee I know of many who have decided not to look and that’s fine with me Those that do look sometimes set themselves up for heartbreak when they discover their true roots (Rape, incest, abuse, alcoholism, drugs, parents don’t care) But all in all it’s not actually finding one’s birth parents but finding out the HIDDEN TIME BOMBS WAITING TO EXPLODE AND CAUSE EVEN MORE HEARTBREAK especially when a person is suddenly told you are adopted and you had no inkling about it like I was To this day even though I have connected with my birth moms family I still have not been able to establish the medical history on my birth fathers side because said he has no wish to communicate with me He said there were no family medical issues but then where did my condition come from and what other issues are still hidden away Sorry to be so abrupt but please consider all the facts before saying that it’s an insult I sincerely hope and pray that all goes well with your extended family and hope and pray that nothing untoward comes up anywhere in the future for them

29:30. Manufactured grief for dramatic use! No way in hell it could possibly make that much difference to the mental health of a loved, nurtured, young man who had both feet on the ground. Conversation? Sure. Questions? You bet, but just that. If the kid were to have been characterized as "troubled" or "anti-social" the reaction might be somewhat reasonable. To want to know you're background defies is "mania" he seemed to exhibit. The story as a whole about everyone is solid but the plot point about the kid , from a writing standpoint, I'm not buying.
