Highly venomous African Tree Snake (Boomslang) rescue.

Jason,I have a question for you,if you have a second….Do you,or have you thought about injecting yourself with micro doses of different types of venomous snake venom? There is a guy here in the U.S. named Tim Freide that has done it for years…he has filmed himself actually taking bites from mambas,taipans,etc….i think some of his videos are still on KZread actually… Thank you for another heart stopping video…my family and I enjoyed it ,as we do all of your videos….You’re a humble man,but I still think you have more nerve than Dick Tracey!! Another super cool and calm rescue. You were both completely chilled and relaxed with one another; after She had given up trying to escape into the hope. She looked wonderful. Just before you mentioned her head staying still I thought exactly the same. It looked as though her head was resting upon some see through glass or something. Incredible. I've never seen that before. I always thought Burmsllangs were extremely dangerous: she didn't even hint at biting you. Or so it seemed. Very beautiful colour, texture and eyes. I watched an old episode of Snakes in the City with Simon Nadine and as special guest, snake conservationist Mr Jason Arnold✊😀 He looked a bit wary of the camera in them days!!! 😂 Have a gr8 day. Thanx as always Dave
@jasonarnold-snakeman
Жыл бұрын
Hi Dave. Yeah, that's the thing. They are immensely venomous, but they have a super calm temperament and usually give fair warning by inflating the throat, before lunging to bite. They are just the nicest venomous snakes 😊 And yes you're right, I definitely wasn't too comfortable being filmed in those days. That particular episode actually did a lot of damage to my reputation, because the people that live in and around the outskirts of that vast valley, took it upon themselves to assume that I released ALL OF the venomous snakes I catch into that valley. So word got around and everybody in that area stopped calling me for snakes. They now use another local snake guy. Got to be so careful what you let people see, because people are quick to make their own assumptions and then tarnish your name. Oh well, they lost a very dedicated, patient, experienced and efficient snake guy. 😔😌🙈🤷🏻♂️

Another great rescue Jason, and such a beautiful snake too. What is the toxicity of the Boomslang compared to the Black Mamba and the Spitting Cobra?
@jasonarnold-snakeman
Жыл бұрын
Thank you. I'm not sure of the exact LD50 of the different venoms, but a single drop of Boomslang venom could probably kill 10 to 15 people. A drop of Black Mamba venom might kill 1 or 2 people.
@absolutjackal
Жыл бұрын
I've heard though that generally mamba venom is very fast acting vs. boomslang venom being slow acting. So the boomslang venom might be more potent, but you'd generally be more able to get to monovalent antivenin more readily and in time than a mamba envenomation. One of the things I find super interesting about the mambas is that people die from bites, but as long as you can get to antivenin people have no lasting effects from the venom since it has little to no hemotoxic effect. It doesn't cause bleeding or tissue damage, just paralysis. A lot of the snakes we have here in the states can cause organ and muscle damage that you'll have to deal with for the rest of your life though you are unlikely to die.

@jasonarnold-snakeman
Жыл бұрын
Hi Joe. In terms of training, I became fascinated and somewhat obsessed with snakes at the age of 13. That fascination got me reading every single book on snakes that I could get my hands on. No internet in those days !! My knowledge 4 years later secured me a part time position (and later, a full time position), at the Fitzsimmons Snake Park. And that's where I got most of my hands on experience. It is most definitely NOT lucrative at all. Yes it brings me in an income, but it is absolutely NOT an income that one can survive on. And there is also a fair bit of competition. And if that's not already a recipe for disaster, it's also seasonal....🙈 And I also haven't got medical insurance or life insurance. Purely because I cannot afford such luxuries. It's mainly passion driven. And I'm hopeful that this channel will grow big enough to bring in some much needed financial support. And thanks to people like yourself who view and share my videos, hopefully this can become a reality 🙏🏻👍🏻

Can I ask you a couple of ??? You said that the Boomslang is a chill snake but have you caught a Boomslang that isn’t? Also, do you only use bags to secure snakes or the canisters also. Saw another snake video (you’re my fav 😁) where he used canisters and the snakes would jump out the top before he could get the lid on. 😲🐍

You may need to get a head or chest camera, or maybe a tripod, to free up both hands! Lol
@jasonarnold-snakeman

Yeah. I have it all. The head camera I feel there's too much movement, as I'm always looking around making sure people aren't getting too close etc. People will get motion sickness watching 😜🤣 The chest harness thing is cool, but you can never see where it's aiming and you often get footage where the main stuff you want to see, is totally out of view. The tripod is about the best, but also has its limitations. It's very challenging not having a dedicated camera person. 🙈🤦🏻♂️

It's not kept in big volumes, that's for sure. But it is available at a few Durban hospitals. Or at worst, can be flown to Durban from Guateng, Mpumalanga, Swaziland or Cape Town. The venom is very slow working and they can treat the symptoms or give the patient a blood transfusion whilst awaiting the antivenoms arrival. 👍🏻👍🏻🙏🏻

?? Question Jason, what exactly happens (god forbid) if you get bitten by a Black Mamba? Have you ever been bitten by a snake?
@jasonarnold-snakeman
Жыл бұрын
Hi Troy. I would need to get to a hospital as quickly as possible and receive the antivenom. I was bitten by a Mamba in 2002, but it never injected any venom. It was what we call a "dry" bite. Luckily!! Mamba venom causes something called Progressive weakness syndrome. It causes general paralysis of the muscles and nerves. Particularly the diaphragm. Once the diaphragm is paralyzed, you are unable to breathe for yourself. Other symptoms include sweating, excessive salivation, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, dilation of the pupils, slurred speech and blurred vision.

Thanx as always Dave

@jasonarnold-snakeman
Жыл бұрын
Thank you. I'm not sure of the exact LD50 of the different venoms, but a single drop of Boomslang venom could probably kill 10 to 15 people. A drop of Black Mamba venom might kill 1 or 2 people.
@absolutjackal

Those Vipera ammodytes are very pretty snakes. I've worked with them before. The common name is a Nose Horned Viper.

Jason I’ve been watching you for a while - and love your videos! I often wonder how you trained for this, is it an occupation that is lucrative, are there competitors for this type of work in SA, and above all else - how the heck do you get medical insurance with this type of occupation! 🤔 Seriously though, this is absolutely fascinating content - thanks for sharing your mind boggling skills!

@@jasonarnold-snakeman Jason thanks very much for the personal reply - I for one would be happy to support the channel if you have a pay side like a Patreon or something similar It’s not just the fact that you are handling the probably one of, if not the most deadly animals on the planet - you also venture into areas that are shockingly poverty stricken. The families always seem genuinely appreciative and warm despite their circumstances. A lot of the snake handlers on KZread do their work in air conditioned “studios”, while you work on the reptiles turf! Keep this great work up - just don’t get bit!!!
I cant believe you play with that breed so easily!! That is so scary

They are extremely gentle, shy snakes. Quite reluctant to bite. 👍🏻👍🏻
Так это ядовитая змейка? Вы так спокойно с ней обрашались...
I never saw that type of snake before.

I was curious about the black Mambas, the way they move reminds me of a cobra without the hood. It's amazing how they do that.. Do Mambas travel like that all the time or only when prey is involved ?
You may need to get a head or chest camera, or maybe a tripod, to free up both hands! Lol
@jasonarnold-snakeman
Жыл бұрын
Wow .. what is happening from from 4:45 ???? Super still head!!!
Have you ever been envenomated? You are extremely comfortable and casual and that concerns me.

Pretty dangerous it's my understanding that boom slang there is no anti-venom readily available for that very risky
@jasonarnold-snakeman

She was very chill!
?? Question Jason, what exactly happens (god forbid) if you get bitten by a Black Mamba? Have you ever been bitten by a snake?
@jasonarnold-snakeman
Жыл бұрын
What a beautiful and calmed snake Jason!! Great catch and an awesome release of these 2 snakes near the water and far from people.
You should be wearing welder's gloves if you are going to handle snakes freehand. If not, some day you will get tagged.

Pregnant? A babyboom boomer boomslanger?
. Im confused why you would take this beautiful girl from her home. Especially when she was heading back to the bush. This really bothered me. Here is a situation when humans panic over a snake that is quite away from their home SMH

I know. It bothers me too. But if I just let it go there, it's likely to venture back onto this property or a neighboring property and be killed by some ignorant person or by a dog, cat or get run over crossing a busy road nearby. It's in a much bigger, safer area now.👌🏻🙏🏻👍🏻
