World’s Shortest Runway Landing - Caribbean’s Extreme Flight
Join me on a flight to 2 of the most dangerous airports in the Caribbean; Saba and St Barth. Here, you are not afraid to fly, but rather to land!
Starting with some plane spotting action at St Maarten Princess Juliana Int’l Airport. Most beach vacationers gather on Maho Beach and anxiously wait for the plane to fly a few meters above their heads before landing and resisting the jet blast on takeoff.
I flew with SXM Airways pilot Jean-Marc Oliver on the Britten Norman Islander (BN-2A-26) from St Maarten to Saba. Saba Airport has the world’s shortest commercial runway at just 400m. The entire island is mountainous and looks like Jurassic Park. Watch our landing and takeoff at Saba, the plane used the entire runway for takeoff and literally “dropped” after leaving the runway!
Next is St Barth. As beautiful as the runway on the Caribbean island, the landing is extreme! Located between the mountains and the sea, it is only 640 meters long. We encountered some strong crosswinds and turbulence before “diving” into the airport. It was some of my most exciting flight as I had to stop filming to watch out for the landing.

Agreed. He is a very good pilot. He seems very happy and content to stay right where he is.
I’ve watched a million of Sam’s videos. This might be the best. Flying at its most pure form. Loved every minute, and loved to see the young pilot so passionate about what he does. Great video.

Absolutely agree, after finishing this for me this has to be among his best ever. I get the impression they even took the plane out just for him and to show the world just what they do. Amazing all round.

For a pilot to agree to do a circuit for filming is a blessing😁. He is a really cool and down to earth pilot

What a skilled young pilot!
That young fella is ice cold... 😎
Great young man, Jean-Marc, with solid stick and rudder skill, conquers Saba and St. Barth with ease. 👨✈
That's some landing from Jean-Marc Oliver 👏👏👏
I worked with SXM and Jean Marc to do his King Air 200 Initial training. He is a very talented young aviator and will go far. He is also one cool dude and my wife and I honeymooned to St. Marteen based on his and Jeff's recommendation. Great video guys!!
Got goosebumps just reading the appreciation comments for the pilot and I agree with everyone of them. Amazing. When he was landing it looked like he was driving a rally car 😭 amazing
The pilot is so nice and friendly. Star of this episode.
Caribbean smiles are beautiful 🎉
As a Caribbean man, I can tell you that you are in the region of one of the most beautiful places that God has ever created on this planet.

Loved it ! So far my favorite video you ever made ! I saw the host get scared !!! The pilot is a highly skilled young man !
Wow! That pilot is so cool, calm and collected
WOW, I could fly all day with that Jean Marc. He makes it so exciting to fly but he also maintains such a cool, professional manner.
I was just in St Maarten on New Year’s Eve… amazing plane spotting .. defiantly want to go back… what a wonderful pilot he will go far in aviation.. best of luck to him.
Huge fan of your channel on this platform Sam. As a pilot and parachuter for some 35 years, your pilot today was fabulous! Thank you all.

This has to be one of the very best of Sam's videos. Brilliant stuff. The young pilot is cool.
Jean Marc is obviously very very experienced. And so young as well. He has a very very bright future.
Wow awesome...heart stopping landing...hats off to the pilot..from Philippines..
International airlines needs to hire this guy on the spot. If you can land on one of the world’s shortest runway you can fly any airline. 👏🏾👏🏾
That pilot was awesome. Definitely someone I would trust with my life.
Bellissimo. Mi hai fatto venire voglia di andare ai Caraibi 👍🏼
I just don't get tired of watching landing/takeoffs in the Caribbean!
That pilot and landing was fantastic.
Wow! I’m so jealous! And such a cool and laid back pilot! One of your best videos yet!!
Those 3 runways are on the top of my bucket list ... amazing pilot ....
Happy you finally made it to the very special space that is our part of the world!
Love your skill Jean-Marc. Thank you again Sam for showing us this super exiting side of flying. Years ago I was in line to go to St. Barth for 2 or 3 days for a cargo inspection on a diesel oil delivery to the Island by ship. My co-workers had the opportunity but it never reached me. Oh well....
Hi sir Sam, me and my husband have been watching your amazing videos. We’re residing here in SXM ,so glad you featured our beautiful islands here in the Caribbean 🇸🇽
Awesome video Sam, great fun to watch! Jean Marc is a straight up aviation rock star, and the the Caribbean has produced a TON of great pilots who fly everything all over the world (I've known several over the years)
One of the best videos that I've seen. Each landing gave me goosebumps. Keep smiling my friends.
I was in ST. Maarten a few years ago, before the hurricane. Great to see the recovery. I know the airport had been badly damaged. I really need to try that Saba flight 😀 Really enjoyed this video. Fantastic scenery. Thanks Sam.
Hey Sam, this is your best video. So fraeakin’ cool!!! So is Captain Jean Pierre: look at his control imputs! This guy knows how to fly. Any possible future big jet flying will be super boring for him… I hope he manages to always keep a shoe in this amazing ops while maybe later exploring the world. (This would be my career advise for him😉)
Jean-Marc makes flying look so easy ... and fun. Great video, thanks Sam. Best wishes from Roger in England
hello sam i am so happy that you finally had the chance to visit my home saba. Sadly im not livin their anymore and i also used to work on the airport. Jamarc is an excellent pilot and ive witness him do his first landing on saba. hope to meet you one day
Watched so many of Sam's videos earlier but first time clicked on like button..pure excitement of what air travel is really mean.. would love to see more of such videos
Wow, what a video! This is flying! Sam, you were zoned out on St. Barth approach, incredible. Also the PC-12‘s landing there is quite surprising. Big bird, needed a go around. I am so happy I will watch it again now!

Thank you! Yes indeed I was caught by the sudden wind gust and decided let me sit still and watch the landing :)
Hey Sam, great, your videos are not same like others from the scene with only videos from airlines or lounges... ...you show us much experience about airplanes, stunning airplaces etc... This video is really great, keep on your fantastic work🤩😍
Hey Sam, I have been watching your travel videos for some time but I must say that this was the most hair-raising & exciting to watch, Thanks for sharing.
So much fun to watch! Awesome flying Jean Marc!!
The Saba airport was one of those bucket list items I never figured I'd get to. Then we got a customer on the island, and the project included a week on Saba to train. There's a ferry boat, but no chance of that; I was flying in for sure! Bucket list item checked! (I climbed the volcano too). You just never know what dreams will come true. One of the most spectacular experiences I've ever had! I love your videos. it was such a pleasure to see this one, and say "I've been there! I've done that!". Thanks for bringing all kinds of flying experiences to everyone.

After Bhutan's approach these are the most exciting approach / landings!! Thanks Sam!
Thanks Sam for this great video!!! Having lived in St.Thomas for for forty years I have flown in and out of these airports as a passenger. This is the first time I saw how my flights were visually. I always knew we had the best pilots.
Your best video to date, Sam..plus, to me it's definitely the best I've seen of Saba and St Maarten as well. Kudos! And Marc is a fabulous pilot! What a thrill!
I love this video. Jean-Marc makes it look easy. A friend of mine , she is from Saba ( moved to NY ) . Her family still lives there. When we go visit I the landing is the highlight of the trip
An amazing pilot and the BN-Islander in the environment it was built for.
The best aviator in the world
Every time I watch your videos I get a vacation feeling. I love it .❤ Great job.
Awesome content. I've never heard of Saba, but now it's on my bucket list.
Who would ever think SXM would be the easiest landing but there it was. Really great episode, Sam. Really loved the great narration from your pilot. He’s going places.
DUDE!!!!! you should come to Montserrat too!! Airport is similar to Saba with a deep valley each on either end of the 600m long airstrip!
Amazing flying skills! Single pilot in wind shear and with short runways!
always top class.. don’t need to create “controversy” to be a great aviation youtuber.. love your videos..
Cute and handsome pilot. Good luck guys.
Sam was indeed having alot of fun down at the Caribbean talking about a fun way thru aviation also beautiful scenery
Wow! that was awesome ! You are so blessed to be able to fly in that environment. Thanks for sharing 😀
That pilot is a stud! Talented.
One never ceases to be amazed with your videos Sam . Thank you so very much as usual.
Great skilled pilot. GOD BLESSED!
Congratulations, Sam! Your videos are amazing.
Really enjoyed this video. I was glued. Very cool pilot.
Best video of the year, Sam - Jean-Marc is a great host (and pilot). What an awesome idea to do this - and both airports too (I'd always wondered about landing at St Barth's). Thanks!
An amazing video! Thank you Sam & team!
Amazing So proud of Jean Marc
Awesome Video. Xtreme. Thank you So much. I would love to go there. Thanks for showing us. COOL Pilot. I would be terrified
Thank you for these amazing pictures 🙏🏼
Imagine this pilot's tight car parking skills...😂
Favourite video yet! What a fabulous life flying down there.
Thanks for taking us on the runway tour, Sam. Thanks also to the cool and handsome pilot.
Man I miss this! I used to fly the BN2 in the Bahamas. Young and fun times and actually gotpaid for flying! I was so happy. Spent the last 10 years of my career on the B777, literally lost my love and feeling for flying in the process. Anyway this pilot seems to be a very pleasant person. my advice would be stay close to home and don't chase the money.
Another great video Sam; these experiences are nothing to what I have been through. I never knew they existed - thank you for sharing
Jean Marc is a super duper hot shot pilot. What a ride!
Thank you Sam….fantastic footage👍🏾🌟👍🏾🌟👍🏾🌟
Great video, Sam. Definitely one of, if not, my favorite. Pure thrill of flying
It’s so cool you visited Saba. I’ve always heard about this tiny island and it’s challenging runway. Growing up in the Caribbean a childhood friend of mind lived on the island briefly and told me many stories.
This pilot is something else 👍
Thank you Sam…..as always fantastic footage👍🏾🌟👍🏾🌟😓🌟
Amazing video. You're making these places known
Brilliant flying loved this video Sam ✈️😘
WOW Jean-Marc is a real pilot. There must have been hours and hours of training before you can land alone at these airports. Hats off. BTW a visit to these islands is number 1 on my bucket list ✈✈🛩🛫🛬
What a super cool & chilled guy Jean-March is😎
Such a wonderful and exciting video, Sam! While some aviation vloggers seem to be willing to go for a fight with about each and every airline, you are delivering quality and exclusive content. Well done!
So good I think I'll watch it again.
Awesome content Sam, i really enjoy it!!! ❤❤❤
Great pilot! Bravo!!!
Those my islands ... welcome back ... love the video ....
Some fantastic hand-flying there. Cool video!
Great video Sam, some great flying and amazing scenery. I loved flying the Islander, one speed to remember (65 knots) and ears are ringing from those props! (I flew it before I had an ANC headseet!)
Awesome video! I feel like basically every avgeek has to go to saba or at lease st. Maarten once
good morning, anew day had passed still alive .. thank God above... man made structure like that made used possible with people likeable and using this.. great work appreciated. great video Sam more power!!

Enjoyed watching this!✈️
