HIGHLIGHTS | Scotland 1-3 Ukraine | FIFA World Cup Play-off Semi-Final

Scotland faced Ukraine at Hampden Park in the FIFA World Cup Semi-Final Play-off, with both teams looking to progress to the Play-off Final against Cardiff in Wales.
In an open first half, both sides pushed to create chances, with Craig Gordon pulling off several great saves. However, it was the visitors who went ahead in the 33rd minute, through Andriy Yarmolenko. A fast start from Ukraine in the second half then saw them double their lead through Roman Yaremchuk.
As the game approached the final quarter, Callum McGregor's make-shift shot just managed to cross the line, despite the efforts of the Ukrainian defence. A strong period followed for Scotland, but they eventually caught on the break in the final minutes, as Artem Dovbyk completed the scoring late on.

Clarke got the shape wrong from the start and made the wrong player selections to compound that first error. It proves again, jut like the Czech Repubic game that when Kieran Tierney isnt playing then Clarke cant make that back 3 system 3-4-2-1 work. Tierney is the key man in Clarke's system and when he doesn'd play then we at least need 3 proper centre backs or we revert to 4-3-3. By the time Clarke changed it we were 2-0 down. Absolutely fuming that we lost it in the manner we did by repeating similar mistakes from the Euros. Well done Ukraine and thoroughly happy that if we got beat then it was by them. Good luck for the play-off final

@Glasgow Rossco Beginning to think the same. But then again Wales didn't seem to be under the same pressure as Scotland from the English media to hand Ukraine the walkover? Very strange team selection from Clarke and he needs to do well in the nations league and euros qualifiers

Shocking performance, didn’t put any pressure on them until the 70th minute. Clarke needs to stop persisting with the back 5 when we don’t have tierney, same thing happened against the Czechs in the euros, can’t get the midfield on the ball, when we have 3 planks of wood at the back, who can’t pass wind. Hanley and Cooper way out their depth at this level. Can’t let the best team we’ve had in decades go to waste

Hard for a team ranked 38th to make the World Cup through the play off route. Was always a tough ask, even more so with the delayed fixture, really killed our momentum.

I honestly thought Scotland were crap 🤷♂️
After all the progress shown in the last few years Scotland give that careless performance in such a huge game. If they went down with a fight itd be acceptable. Looks like they were having a casual kickabout and expecting to lose. They should be ashamed. Clarke has made progress definitely but then they just crash at the crucial point. Id say maybe the time is right for a change - McInnes in for Clarke.

Qualifying from Europe is tough. Brazil and Argentina often play a second string team when they play away to the likes of Bolivia. They can afford to lose a few games and still qualify. In Europe, you lose one qualifier in your group and the pressure is on.

Haven't watched games lately not even Serbia. I'm disappointed that Scotland missed World Cup. Well , Ukraine surprised me with formation I thought they will play their usual 3-4-2-1 but they decided to gamble little bit and brake your 2nd line and they succeeded in the 1st half. such a disappointing performance. limp, uninterested, low effort. Gordon and McGregor were the only players who turned up. dykes, adams, hickey, mctominay, gilmour, robertson, and mcginn were all very poor. however there are positives to take from this match but it depends if clarke will actually pay attention to them and change things for next time
should of been 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1

@@rastapahan6290 А вот про 2006 я не согласен. Результаты там были у Украины, с приличными сборными 0-3, 0-4, 0-0.Блохин объявил это сказкой. Так же, как и у России в 2018. Результаты 0-3,1-1 ,2-2. А названо выступление успехом.Сейчас совсем другое дело. Украина выиграла все 3 решающих матча. Причём все на чужих полях. И где даже ничья оставляла её за бортом Ч.М.
