One of the best actions out there. Short bolt throw for a low mount scope for clearance. Love the bolt hold/release safety feature. I don't have one complaint or flaw with my mine. Expensive... yes, but they're worth every penny.

I recently purchased a Sako 85 Synthetic Black in 30-06. Beautiful rifle and very nicely accurate. However, in 50yrs of hunting and having over 80+ guns go through my hands I’ve never had a rifle with the ejection problems this one has. In trying to find out the ammo it likes I tried several different brands that I had stored up due to the current shortage. I found this rifle will only eject Federal Premium nickel brass 95% consistently. Hornady, Winchester and Federal Power Shok brass go straight up, hit the bottom of the scope and 50% of the time will fall back in the chamber. The ones that do eject are not consistent in force, flight or angle out of the chamber. In reviewing forums and other videos this seems more common than Sako wants to admit. I’m not even going to bother contacting their Customer Service as many reviews done by owners of 85s speak to being blown off by the rep. Further research seems to indicate that a tighter gripping extractor might alleviate some of issue. It is unfortunate as this rifle I have has so many other positive qualities such as a super smooth bolt, excellent feeding, balance, great stock and palm swell, coupled with great accuracy is soured by this one important flaw.

The Bavarian 85 chambered in .30-06 is lovely-so old school but timeless and because it already has very good sights I would never consider using a scope. BTW very nice overview...

Hello Sako, love the products! My only request would be to either offer the 85 kodiak in more calibers or make a short and compact stainless version of the finnlight with iron sights! I think that would complete a market gap that no other manufacturer is offering at the moment. A lot of western hunters want a mountain rifle (lightweight) that can withstand bad weather (Stainless/weather proof materials) and shoot close range due to terrain and thick vegetation (Iron sights).

You can blame me for beating a dead horse if you want. But I bought a damned Sako 85 in 375H&H and it was the biggest disappointment in rifles I've ever purchased! A $2000 worthless piece off shit! Every single round ejects straight up into the scope and back down into the action. To make matters worse this model doesn't even come with iron sights so it cannot be shot without a scope. An issue that Sako and Berretta have known about for years and refuse to fix or address. 😒 they just keep selling useless rifles with a "to hell" with their customers attitude. As a dangerous game rifle they have literally put my life in danger with their piss poor cheap rifle. I for one will never buy another Sako rifle and I'll beat that dead horse til I feel like I've got my wasted $2000 worth out of it no matter what you think about it!

  • @Shawn-st2lx

Where can I get appropriate mounts for a scope? I bought rings for a dovetail rail and it doesn't mount properly. I went with another brand and same thing, it doesn't mount. They keep slipping off and the taper is the real problem. Does Sako offer mounts that can actually properly fit cause I've spent 400 dollars on different mounting options and nothing works. I've found some options offered by Sako that cost over 850 dollars Canadian. This is completely unacceptable. Figure out a method to make a rail that doesn't need over 500 dollars of after market products just to mount a scope. The tapered dovetail is garbage if you're the only ones that are hell bent on using it.

Problem is putting a large windage adjustable turret directly over the extraction point. Empty case strikes the turret upon ejection and tumbles back into the bolt. Just be careful of your scope choices and mounts and you’ll be fine.

@Ron Lowney It has nothing to do with the scope. The way the scope is mounted or the size of the turrets. Nothing. It has everything to do with cheap ass Sako/Berretta using the same extraction spring and pin for every caliber. I had to take mine to a gunsmith to have an extraction pin built to fit my caliber and get a heavier extraction pin put in. Complete bullshit that a company would be so cheap!

I own a Sako 85 SS Finnlight in 260 Remington with a fluted short barrel. After owning the rifle for 2 years and using it for one hunting season, the stock began decomposing and becoming VERY sticky. Beretta is apparently the parent company and I have contacted them numerous times about the decomposing stock. They refuse to do anything to rectify the issue that makes the rifle non usable as everything sticks to it. One would think that paying over $1900 US dollars just for the rifle, it would be a lifetime investment. The rifle is a good rifle...the stock makes it useless. I could NEVER recommend a Sako rifle to anyone as they DO NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT!

What's going on with the defective bolt extractor throwing spent casing up and directly into the scope causing wear on the scope housing and more importantly a cause for life threatening malfunctions when some of the time the shell falls right back into the receiver. Especially if the hunter was hunting dangerous game requiring a follow-up shot. Please fix this asap because there are multiple complaints! I have a beautiful 75 Hunter for 30 years and would love purchase a large bore for dangerous game.
