As a Latvian it was hard to watch! 8 - 1 is a bit to harsh, but congrats to Germany! I can imagine how Swedes are gonna completely destoy our team in a next game!

Speed-wise we were far behind, biggest issue for sure. I remember in high school going to Latvia - Germany game in Riga and Germany was considered among the weaker end like us. The progress they have made over this last decade is impressive. We have improved too, but this was kinda brutal to watch. Germany was way better.

And before the Latvia game Germany got thrashed by USA and Sweden ! They conceded way to many goala against them in the first three games! Also against Slovakia with their 5:4 win ! They definitly wont win any medal ! The medals are reserved for USA , Canada , Sweden , Finnland, Tschechia etc...I am a German fan telling you that !

@@tomcoolman9422 You never know with this team. The didn't start great last year either but when they get on a roll, they are a force to be reckoned with. Their team spirit is really good.
How they let that d-man simply walk in and score for the 2nd goal is a marvel to me. He wasn't even fast. They just parted like the Red Sea for Moses. Dude was so surprised he scored, he didn't even celebrate. You can read the "How did that happen?" sign on his forehead.

When Latvia need extra time to win against POL and FRA (2 weakest teams of group), nothing shocking happened here.

What a brutal game, literally when tuned and saw we were at 7-1 was taken away. And the no goal absolutely shredded. This year so far just been so sloppy, Daugavins carried the OT goals when it couldve been an easy win without the extra time
this year our latvian team has that silly goofy mood vibe

@German-hv9nv we have great players now too, for example like Jaks, Ābols, Daugaviņš, Dzierkals, Indrašis, Batņa, Ločmelis and etc. It's our defense players who are making wrong decisions with positions and being too aggressive

I wasn't expecting an easy game for LV but 8-1 is crazy!

I feel like a beat down like this was necessary to get our team ready for better teams like because it showed that we were definetly not ready for this team, same thing as last year vs canada.
A lot of mid tier teams are having some roller coaster results this year. This game was a surprise! My predictions were completly wrong lol! I had a feeling of 3-3 and OT today. Congrats Germany, nicely done. Unlucky Latvia! Best regards from a Norwegian fan, and good luck with your remaning games.

Ich mag das skandinavische eishockey! Nhl, khl und dann folgt mit schwedische, finnische beste liga! Dahinter Ch, wobei andere aufgeholt haben... Hoffe und wären soweit für gold Schweiz! 🤔🥇😎🇨🇭 Nehme aber auch final als looser! 😉 Würde mich zwar anscheissen aber besser als 3.😂

Man, it doesn’t matter that we don’t have some players from last year, to me, that’s just excuses, you can’t have excuses like this in an international championship. Of course it’s obvious to everyone that this year our morale is almost completely down, and a miracle has to happen if we want to get into quarterfinals

@@dreamthedream8929 depends on how Slovakia does. If they get 3 points from both Poland and France (which they probably will), Latvia will be 4 points behind Slovakia and have one extra match. That means they will have to win against Slovakia and USA / Sweden and Slovakia has to lose against Sweden. Unless something crazy happens, Latvia won't surpass Sweden, USA or Germany so this is their only chance. Edit: I know Latvia vs Sweden is sooner than Slovakia vs France, I just wanted to make the prediction more simple
Sad to admit, but that is real Latvian level. There was negative signals in previous games against PL and FRA, even KAZ was not confident wins. Ofcourse, there are hopes, that each team can have such bad games and everything will be OK, but... Will see against SWE & SVK was this an accident or pattern. But wish the best for LV! Congrats GER for superb game!

Yeah, something is off with the team this year. We all knew it won't be medal again, come on, but the game play is really bad. I just can't count the facepalms over passes alone. Team is not as ''glued'' as last year.

Germany 1-6 Sweden. Germany 8-1 Latvia. Sweden will be wanting to prove a point after last years quarterfinals.. I love Latvian hockey but this can turn in to a slaughter if the team don't step up.

Don't worry too much. Germany played not good against the US and Sweden. The result will be more close then this or the german games against these two teams. The german team was really unhappy with their own performance and made some changes.

Honestly, the way iihf does these weird staggered rest days is not smart. One team plays full force the day before, while the other comes full force the next day, going against the tired team.

Вместо ожидавшейся увлекательной и напряжённой борьбы между серебряным и бронзовым призёрами прошлого чемпионата получилось какое-то избиение младенцев. У Латвии оборона выглядела беспомощно и растерянно, вратари мышей не ловили. Плюс удаления, которые немцы эффективно реализовывали. Грубый Бауэр показал класс! Да и остальные немецкие нхэловцы смотрелись мощно.
Think it's fair to say that we weren't too optimistic of this year's Latvia performance after the 1st 3 games we had.

As a Latvian, this was painful. I respect Germany, i like their traditions and I'm learning the language, but the hockey games against Germany have always been painful and aggressive. I wish both teams had more respect for each other, and I'm not even talking about just the score.

We have a lots of respect for Latvia, we had a lot of very tiggt battles over the last years. We have been on a similiar level in hockey for most of the time, but I think in recent years Germany got better. However Latvia is clearly a top 10 side, much better than Denmark, Norwad or Kazakhstan
Just imagine the Canucks hadn't made the playoffs and Silovs was able to play for Latvia?!?

Вообще-то ничего удивительного. Латыши еле еле выйграли у Польши, вялая игра с Францией, с казахами победа, но казахи никакущие и тут Германия и сразу разгром. Латвии на этом чемпионате ничего не светит

Белоруссы заняли 4 место на ОИ 2002 - там играли сильнейшие сборные мира и они выбили шведов. 4 место в таком турнире гораздо почётнее чем даже 1 на нынешних ЧМ.
Поздравляю немцев из России. Неплохо разделали латвию.
