This is by far the best I've seen Conor Benn look, and I don't mean just because of the first round knockout. He was poised, selected his shots well, maintained optimal distance for engagements. looked like a premature stoppage at first but on closer inspection cannot argue with the ref as Vargas as soon as he got clipped by the uppercut he did not throw anything back but was getting hit with big clean shots - he should have taken a knee for an 8 count. was still stable on his feet. the guard was still up. He wasn't returning, because he still felt the power and the freshnes of Benn. If ever fought against someone stronger and faster than you, you wait until he's a little bit powered out and THEN return. Returning now would mean taking more shots. He took a big right hand, that send him into the rope. After that he only took one clear shot. Many shots missed, some shots just touched the top of the head. His head was still moving, he was stable on his feet, and his gurd was still up. He was still avoiding shots. Maybe he would drop, without the stoppage, but maybe not. If not Benn put a lot of energy in this punches. So yes, definetly too early.

@@brando3342 I can tell you, I’ve watched a lot of boxing and I have NEVER seen someone come back after getting murdered on the ropes like that. The only way it happens is if they’re saved by the bell or they manage to take a knee or touch a glove to the canvas. You’ve seen it happen? Tell me which fight it was, because I’m genuinely interested.

totally agree. Great performance from Benn. But Vargas far away from KO.. Stable on his feet. head movement. guard up. The ropes stopped a knock down, not a knock out.

If you seen the distance those punches were covering at the velocity they were travelling plus the fact they were landing clean and shaking sam's whole body and u still call that early, then u probably wanted to see his head front row outside the ring 😐

Only big disadvantage might be Benn's reach which is reported as 68 inches, far shorter than the reported 74 inch reach of Ennis (same reach Roy Jones jr. had). Don't know what Ortiz's reach is but doubt it's 74 inches. Ennis is 5'10 Benn is 5'8 Ortiz is ?
