We delivered one of our finest performances of the season so far on Sunday as we defeated Aston Villa 7-0 at Meadow Park.
It was another vital victory in the race for the Barclays FA Women’s Super League title, which now leaves us just one point behind league leaders Chelsea with only two games remaining.
Coming into this fixture full of confidence, we started strong and took just 11 minutes to open the scoring with Vivianne Miedema combining with Beth Mead, before finding the back of the net from the edge of the area.
Her second of the afternoon came from an almost identical position too, with our No 11 surging forward from deep and firing another powerful effort beyond the reach of Sian Rogers.
We continued to dominate for the remainder of the first half and Miedema had a late chance to seal her hat-trick, only to be denied by a fine save.
It didn’t take long for us to extend our lead after the restart, though, with Miedema displaying some outstanding footwork to beat her marker and rattle the woodwork, forcing Rachel Corsie to inadvertently deflect the ball into her own goal.
After seeing Miedema score twice from outside the box, Mead wanted in on the action and scored our best goal of the afternoon, powering home from 30 yards to find the top right corner.
Lotte Wubben-Moy then went on to make it five, reacting first inside the penalty area to convert from six yards, before substitute Stina Blackstenius showed outstanding composure to slot the ball between the legs of Rogers.
But the action wasn’t done there and after winning a penalty, Kim Little showed class to hand the ball over to Nikita Parris, who duly found the bottom corner to net her 50th Women’s Super League goal.

unfortunately chelsea deserve it more. theres no backup plan under jonas when it hits the fan and we dropped points against teams where a worthy champion would not

Miedema is just beautiful to watch. Mead scoring week in week out. Williamson on those long balls. I love these ladies.

Miedema's shots are so powerful that no one dares keep them! I wish she was in the male team. Unfortunately, the team won't win anything, despite all the efforts. I feel for them. They can surely go back in the pre-season and commence to fix some hitches.

There is more than enough keepers in the mens game that are small but they find a way to deal it.
According to the Original Point System we where the Winners this new point system was not necessarily a good change that was introduced by the late Jimmy Hill, only one team benefitted from this new point system of three points, was Blackburn over Man Utd. Because going by what I have seen we were level on points with Chelsea but did the draws mean we have won the league as well as the goal total. According to the OLD 2 point system point system CHELSEA 18 wins and 2 draws = 38 points with 51 GD and the great ARSENAL 17 wins plus 4 draws = 38 points but with 4 draws and the higher GD of 55 we see a total different outcome, so in ARSENAL MINDS WE WON the LEAGUE YES YOU CANNOT BEAT ORIGINALITY in my time we won the league, Well I believe the original system should be returned it was a safer system on paper. WE WON THE LEAGUE TODAY BY NOT LOOSING AND BY 2 DRAWS AND 4 GOALS DIFFERENCE SO A BIG WIN FOR THE GUNNERS WELL DONE GALS

It’s a shame the women goalkeepers are so poor. Maybe the goals should be smaller as most men’s goal keepers are over 6ft to cover the width of the goal. Not fair on the women keepers. Takes away from the quality of the league, as the outfield players have some real quality.

Miedema plays best as a target woman. She played badly and selfishly most of the time she played as an attacking midfielder behind Blackstenius. She can’t singlehandedly drive forward and create chances, she needs others for support to score goals. Even though Little’s 30, she controls the game.
