Your video is validation to what I'm currently doing for my career. I had no college degree up until now. I've been a single mom, worked 2 low-paying jobs for most of that time. One was a full-time dead-end job at a Health insurance company and the other as a seasonal Tax Analyst/Advisor for 14 yrs. I enjoyed working with my tax clients year after year, but felt so unappreciated by my employer. After my daughter's freshman year in college in 2018, I resigned from my full-time job and made the transition to tech when I earned a scholarship for an all women's coding bootcamp to learn web dev/design. The demand to learn was so high, but it lacked the mentorship and support. I left after 3mo and instead, I enrolled at my local community college taking IT courses. I took random classes at first since I didn't know what I wanted to do in tech. I eventually completed with an AAS in Cybersecurity, certs in DB Design & SQL and MS Network Admin, and took 9mo of Python. After that, I got an internship for the critical infrastructure sector in local gov. I'm moving on to earn my BS. I still work during tax seasons, but I definitely want to make financial technology my full-time career since I still get to be working in compliance and data. I'll be checking out more of your content, links, and exploring more about BC techonology. Thanks for the valuable info.

A lot of fintech focusses on the advances made in the field of payment processing. Would be great to include that in this list. Others would be fully digitized lending solutions,pricing for banking book instruments and so on.

@@killerdudebansal you can search the entry requirements of the various universities to find more about your qualifications. I believe CFA 3 is a top achievement and you would not have any issues getting admission especially in the UK.

Hi Martin!! Great encouraging video. I have a question, I have a BS in Physics, I wanted to do a masters in FinTech, though that is not going to be economically possible. What do you think about Fintech bootcamps?? I was looking into University of Washington's Fintech bootcamp. Would you be able to find a job knowing how to build trading bots, machine learning, solidity contracts or would you recommend FullStack development and then put Fintech tools on top? Thanks for watching, Santhosh! A bit of a generic answer - but I think the best way is to tilt your resume in the fintech direction by taking some courses that I talk about on the channel and making it obvious that you built the skills needed to get hired by a fintech company. Your finance/audit background will already be very helpful because of the traditional finance knowledge that you will be able to build on. And then, network, network, network and keep knocking on doors until one opens up.... Good luck!!

@Shawn S. - thanks! I think they are a great asset to have on your resume. Really depends on what you're going for. Do you want to be coding or working around coding and product development? Or transition to the fintech industry, but work in sales/corporate development type of a role to scale the company... Basically, great skills to have, any programming language, blockchain etc... should help in making that transition. Your experience and the MBA are already a great asset that will open a lot of doors, but showing on your resume that you already kinda are a fintech guy will be helpful. Keep me posted!

Hi Martin, I appreciate your videos as I am interested in Fintech as whole. Im currently getting an MBA degree in finance that will end in May and have been on the job search grind. This time last year I was sure I wanted to work for a traditional investment banking firm and starting a role somewhere as a finacial analyst and moving from there, but I've been associating more towards Fintech organizations. I wanted to ask advice on how to locate companies. Apart from my education what can I do to create credibility without having any experience working for a Fintech organization? Hi Parker - thanks for your detailed question. I agree with turning your attention to the fintech industry. Nothing against investment banks - quite the contrary, they are a fantastic, fast paced, supercharged way to learn quickly, and in my opinion faster, than in regular companies. But the fintech industry is where future is and learning inside a fintech sets you up really well to have a ton of choices available to you within a few years. When it comes to how to land a job in the industry - it's the same rules as everywhere else. Network, network, network - talk to people, reach out to them, keep knocking on doors. LinkedIn of course is a great source as it connects a lot of dots. Write an article and publish it there, put the link on your resume. Reach out to people. I have a good friend who runs an investment team in Austin in treasury at PayPal. If you see a job at PayPal you like and apply for it, reach out to me and I'll connect you. There. I just offered to help you and that's what you'll get when you reach out to people candidly and ask them for help. Some will never respond, but sometimes, you get a YES. KEEP NETWORKING 🤞

@Kaila - this is a tough one. It's the "flavor du jour" right now to label anything crypt or fintech and see it rocket to success. I think if you're going to do an MBA, you're really looking for a great, rounded curriculum with an amazing name recognition and a great alumni network. Because MBAs are ultimately about creating networks. So I wouldn't choose just because it's a Fintech MBA per se, but hey if you can get a great MBA that happens to also be tilted towards FinTech and it's what you want to do, it's a winner ☝️

Hey Leena - please don't be lost and above all don't give up knocking on the doors. It's super hard to get that very first professional experience, in particular in a field you're interested in and really want to get into. But there is no secret - you have to keep knocking on those doors, network, network, and network some more. And eventually someone says yes. The easiest way is to look at the alumni of your school and reach out to them - they will be more inclined to help one of theirs as most of them should remember how hard it was for them. And then look at their networks through LinkedIn and reach out - not just asking directly for an internship, but with someone that will grab the people's attention. You need to give to receive and sometimes, it just takes a bit of creativity. Where are you based? And where do you want to work?

@krishna - congrats on being almost at the end of your CFA! Definitely not an easy set of exams to pass... It's a great thing to have on your resume as it shows a lot of credibility in terms of general finance knowledge. I would recommend you also try to go through one or two of the courses on fintech/blockchain that I talk about. You can find the links below the video. If you have a reputable university name like Wharton, Yale, INSEAD on a certificate around the fintech business or blockchain course, that will be super helpful getting in the door. Hi Festus - that's a tough one, really depends on what you want to do later on. The Data Science track will be quite a bit more technical than a more generic Msc. in Fintech. If you're really into coding, algos, and all the data science stuff, that's the track for you but if you want to have more options later on within fintech, I'd personally go for the Fintech Masters. @Ninetynine Knights - great question. Do either of them have anything that sets them apart in terms of specialization? I think you can't go wrong with either of them, but the BBA will give you a broader understanding which leaves more doors open? I think ultimately what opens doors is a great name on your resume. I'd pick the more reputable institution behind the degree 🤞 PS: check out some of the FinTech courses on my other video where you can at the same time put some great names on your resume like Wharton, INSEAD, Berkeley.... just beef up your resume with extra courses and certifications, some coding, knowledge of Python and other languages and you're increasing your chances in a big way 🍀

@Abel - I unfortunately don't know enough about their programs to be able to give you an informed opinion. I'd just say, go with the program that has the classes that interest you. You don't want to enroll at a place that you would second-guess the moment something is a bit off track in terms of expectations. Good luck !! 🍀

@Kanishk - greetings to India, my friend. I hope the Covid situation starts improving soon. I have lots of friends in India and it's quite disheartening to hear the stories... The degrees you are pursuing are great, and I think if you spice it with a couple of the courses in the field, it will give your resume a lot of credibility. I would be very open minded and just keep knocking on the doors, networking around LinkedIn and advertised opportunities in Europe, Africa, but also places like Singapore, Hong Kong. FinTech is taking over in Africa and Asia even faster because the market is very underbanked and it's easier for FinTech solutions to penetrate and bring innovative solutions. I don't have a super high visibility into Asia/Africa, but I know that the growth is strong there. @Puneet - first of all, congratulations for both of these offers. Hard to make the right call for me, I don't know either University very well. But it seems to me the Fintech track is an interest of yours and probably leads to a more practical future in terms of options and choices. You know, I found that ultimately it's really less about the actually school you go to, but about the network you're able to build - and that's a very personal skill. You may be in the best possible Ivey League school and not build a useful network, or be in an average university and build an amazing network, meet your future co-founder, and be off to an amazing start. Go with your gut - it's usually the right choice 🍀

@Kranti - yes they are because they are typically run by really good names like Yale, Columbia, Wharton, INSEAD. Just lends your resume more weight and you can get a free trial on some to test them out. How far along are you in the CPA?

High schoolers can definitely get internships at FinTech companies, you just gotta knock on the doors and be creative in connecting with people. When I say creative, I mean real creative in how you approach people asking for an internship - I always recommend people read anything Derek Sivers writes - check out this short article on the most successful email he ever wrote: sive.rs/cdbe Keep me posted! 🤞

Pricey! But the curriculum looks good. I'd probably try to get in touch with people that have done it and hear their feedback as well as see how some of the FinTech companies you're thinking of feel about this specific track. I don't know much about FinTech in Cambodia, but it looks like the FinTech is just starting there and is still behind Vietnam or Singapore. Tricky to answer in a vacuum - a lot depends on the field you're more interested in and want to work in. Both can lead to a company in finance, while computer science is a more generic area that has a ton of other avenues other than fintech....
