avader5 I lived in SillyCon Valley for 20 years. As far back as the mid 80s there were homeless wandering the streets of Palo Alto, mostly then ambulatory schizophrenics. I left the area in 2006, went back East, to PA Amish country, and got twice the apartment for half the money. Wasn't nuts about winter, but I grew up in Cleveland so I just reverted. I'm sure a lifelong Californian when confronted with 2 feet of snow in one day and 5 foot long icicles would have freaked. I enjoyed life in the slow lane but some people might lose their marbles, not a lot to do, but I got into local stuff--county fairs, historical societies, loved shopping at Amish food stands. Best ice cream on the planet.

It's too late for Texas, they've taken you major cities already and won't stop there. I comment to my wife all the time when she's watching her hgtv shows, tell her to listen to the people talk. You never hear anyone on those shows that have a Texas/southern accent. It's sad what's happening to our country!

You are correct. If you do not own a home IN CA, do not move here, because you cannot afford the rent here. There is a movement called the "New CA State Movement" which has grown now to a majority of counties who are sick of the way it is being governed. They just need a few more to be ratified. Call their VP PAUL PRESTON for meetings: 877-828-2753 MAJORITY OF CA ELECTED OFFICIALS ARE pro-illegals because MOST PROBABLY they themselves were immigrants, JUDGING BY THEIR NAMES.

Yeah, the tax policies in Ca are stupid. I was on vacation in Ca from Az, and decided to trade my phone in before the latest deal expired. Once the deal was done i realized i paid taxes on the MSRP of the phone and not the sale price. I asked the salesman about it, and he said that's how it is in Ca. Completely stupid. In Az you pay sales tax on the sale price, not the MSRP. Lessen learned, ill never make any large purchase in Ca.

Weatherby rifles is one of hundreds of businesses leaving Kalifornia. Weatherby is coming to Wyoming 0% state income tax, and the most gun friendly state of them all. Coincidentally, also the lowest crime rate per capita too -- go figure. I don't know anybody who is not armed.

If you want to claim that the economy is doing well you should clarify that the economy looks good on paper mostly because of Silicon Valley and the inflated real estate market which mostly benefits the rich here in California.

People have been leaving California for the last 30 years. In the 80s I saw people leaving California to come to Washington State and now I'm seeing people leaving California to come to Arizona. I think there's a lot of factors involved in that. One of them is definitely economic. Everything is so expensive in California and they can get more bang for their buck in other states. Unfortunately every state that they come in Mass to ends up driving up the costs there. So personally I'm not too happy about the Exodus from California

Ok... this is where the federal government should step in and do something... if people are leaving the state in masses, there must be something wrong with the current state government... are they just going to let everybody leave the darn state? cheers!

I was in the process of buying tooling and equipment to begin mfgr in calfifornia, a young lady from the state called and demanded that I pay sales tax on the equipment... and also wanted to know if those large tanks with wires attached were bombs or not. It took me 10 seconds to respond, since she already ominously told me my address (amazing seeing as I held professional licensing in the state)... I said "come and seize the equipment, I am leaving the place unlocked" I then bought a plane ticket out of the state... pooof 20 jobs evaporated before her very eyes. I live in central america now.

But Kalifornia is a great place to live if I don't want to work and have a nice home paid for by the taxpayers.

The best thing to happen to CA since the 60s was Prop 13. I left CA in '97, they chased me for taxes for six years because of a disagreement over income they claimed I earned there. I had to pay a lot in legal fees and ultimately reached a deal but as far as i'm concerned it was BS. I moved to Plano, TX '97, then Idaho in '09.

There are still many aeronautical companies in California. Northrup grumman, General atomics etc

Many friends and some family members are leaving California and I May be one of them before long!!

I just watched a video of a woman saying if you want the most welfare benefits and assistance California is the place to go. Could this be part of the problem regarding high taxes?

If that's the case, disqualify California from presidential elections. This can't be allowed to continue. The problem is, many of those transplants bring their policies with them.

I run a business in Los Angeles and I can attest to the high taxes that keeps going up every year. To make matters worse, minimum wage is increasing at such a rapid rate that it is becoming almost impossible to make any money after paying everyone. As if that's not bad enough, frivolous lawsuits are becoming the norm and not the exception and it's only a matter of time before it becomes impossible to operate any small business here.

Texas weather vs California weather.. No comparison. I've known people who moved to Texas only to return when they can't stand the sweltering heat.

The fact is, the financially weak will move out, but that's an opportunity for someone else. No one just moves out and leaves an owned house vacant. Either they sell it, or rent it. It's not just the taxes but the cost of living. The median house in California is $240000 more expensive than the median house in Texas. That's roughly $10000/yr in extra interest to your bank and it's almost entirely attributable to the land use and labor policies of the state of California.

I paid $500 for my car registration this year. It’s up from $280; California is expensive for several reasons, welfare, lawsuits etc. as a country we pay foreign aid but forget about our own people. My wife and I both have graduate degrees, both work and still work hard at staying one step ahead of poverty. California taxation is very corrupt. Taxation without representation is the new slogan. Stop welfare after six-months and stop foreign aid.

I live in NJ and I was part of the CA exodus (wife is from South Jersey). I tried to get us to NC which is a great place but wife didn’t like that place (no friends and family). So I’m back here.... NJ needs to go Red or else it’s going to get even worse beyond the cities like Newark, Trenton, and Camden.

People leave California because the cost of living, mostly in regards to housing, is very high. I think very few Californians leave because the “taxes are too high.” Grocery tax is exempt in both states, wages are higher in California, unemployment rate is just half a percentage better in Texas, Texas is not part of the original western federal lands (land owned and protected by Congress in FLPMA- 1976 and previous land laws)so there is more space to grow in Texas allowing housing costs to be lower in Texas, both Texas and California have high poverty rates compared to other US states but Texas is a percentage higher, weather is way better in California, both states have about equal crime rates. At the end of the day, I think people leave California because the rent is too damn high not because of taxes.
