Most of the republicans still here want out, and I suspect that is the majority of the people leaving. Most people coming to my county are from LA, and they are not red at all. From what I can see, the dems are staying and the reps are leaving.

Should be a law that new residents have to wait 4yrs to vote on a state level. Maybe they will wake up and realize there's a reason RED states vote RED.

I moved to LA 8 months ago and am already leaving in February. The city is too congested, expensive and overall just too many disgusting people everywhere. I've seen a homeless man taking a dump with his ass facing us at a stop light on the 101 off ramp in Hollywood. The problem is not about to get fixed and I accept that. The state is still the most beautiful but the environment is so bad it's simply not worth it. You can only take so much when you are paying an unreasonable amount. Paradise has been lost for sure 😔

Rent being high ok, traffic ok, hot women ok, beautiful weather ok,, but this homeless epidemic is really something else. I wasn't exaggerating I literally saw a guy taking a pooh smh. I wish LA was holding its self to a higher standard especially since they ask so much of all the others. Well I'm not mad I just dont see the point in all of it. Kind of regret even making the trek. LA is still my favorite town because how much I dreamed of coming here and I think I'll keep it that way, a dream. No hard feelings

Republican need to change their stance on many social issues like Abortion,LGBTQ, civil rights issues and many other things if they have any hope of not losing Texas and Florida and with them any future presidency! Look at reliably red Arizona? Look at Georgia, Georgia for God's sake! Are you kidding me? The Republican Party's power base which is the boomers are increasingly getting smaller amd tje next Generation of white youth are increasingly liberal on social issues and will vote Democrat as long as they see the Republican party intolerant amd extremely religious and bigoted! They also need to champion issues that are important to minority groups like Police reform and equality! Look at the black people for example, 87% of them voted for the Dems! Are you serious 87% that means the republican support is not even close to 20%?? 65% of latinos voted for the Dems! Now instead of fighting to get the support of the minorities Republicans are resorting to voter suppression and making voting hard for minorities and the youth! I lived most of my life in CA. I been Republican all my life. This place has become Little Mexico. The homeless problem is not in just the big cities but has affected all the cities. I am retiring this year and we are looking in a Red State. I want to feel my vote is relevant. FYI, I am Hispanic so not all brown people are sheep who vote Dem just because everybody does.

I left that hell-hole called Illinois 28 years ago, took my business with me and never looked back. I'm thankful everyday I don't live there anymore. I feel bad for the farmers who CAN'T move, but have to endure under the immense corruption of politicians in Chicago who control the rest of the state.

I'd love to see a cap in my state. It's my second largest concern. My biggest? Getting Tlaib & her cronies out of Michigan office!

I left California -- it's going down the tubes. Higher taxes = Citizens leaving + illegals coming in, using more services = more debt and still more tax increases = more citizens leaving, in a vicious cycle.

Well property taxes are over double in texas not to mention prices are steady climbing, pretty soon every state or area that people are moving to will ultimately see surges in general tax terms (employment, commodities, property) just due to migration and supply and demand to name a few variables. Only time will tell, and it doesnt seem to be getting fixed for now. In my opinion….

They should stay there . It sucks they still vote for Dems after they get to red states.

Of course people are leaving California. I would, too, if I weren't 86 years old and in my home for over 50 years. We have the highest taxes anywhere and now we have a Democratic legislature that can do anything it wants with no voice from Republican legislators and a governor with plans for several very expensive programs. There is already talk of more taxes. We also have underfunded pension problems that will eventually destroy California, but the new governor doesn't seem to want to work to solve that problem. He just wants to get his own agenda across. The legislature is "chomping at the bits" to spend extra money the former governor left. God help California!!!!

I live in Idaho, and we have Californians moving in here like crazy. The price of homes have almost doubled in the last several years, Idaho is now the fastest growing state. Home bred Idahoans are now unable to buy houses or maintain their houses because property taxes have gone up significantly, and homes are now unaffordable for the average Idahoan.

Bert. The escaping Californians have done that more than once in the past. In the mid-80's when their real estate market tanked they flooded Oregon and turned it upside down. Hence the popular bumper sticker : Don't Californicate Oregon. Washington has felt it as well, and Texas has had enough of them in the last 10 yrs. as well. Like a disease.

My employer moved from Cal to Mi. Sold my house for 1.4 mil which left me with 400000.00 which I paid cash for a house that was twice the size. The back yard I had in Cal was 10 ft from the back of the house now I got 80. Best decision my boss ever made.

we lived in California until i was 9.. i remember it being almost perfect. But we moved end of the 1970's. Had to go there a few years ago for a test and 3 day meeting... not even recognizable. What a disaster. The California of my childhood is so far gone, it is just mythology now.

We should get it over with and give California back to Mexico. AMLO can make Nancy Pelosi his queen.

I worked in the service dept of a roofing co, and they moved the installation dept to AR because the taxes were so high to operate in CA

I left that state 2 1/2 years ago for being priced out. Whatever you do and wherever you go, don't turn another state blue. Always lean to the right wing, especially when it comes to economics.

The same is happening here in the UK, in London. High cost of living (food, services), impossibly priced houses for the middle and middle-lower class (well, there just aren't any!) and the uneasy threat of terrorism, theft/violence and knife crime. People are leaving in droves. Even in other Southern counties it's getting too expensive to live. We lived somewhat near to London. My partner had a good job with Microsoft and I work full-time but we STILL could not afford most homes in my hometown - so we had to move 3 hours away to North West UK. It's like the "middle class" are dissapearing or being made into lower-class or poor people, eveywhere...

The big problem is going to be the high number of tax payers leaving an area to be replaced with incoming welfare recipients and the change in the revenue and expenditure issue will be horrid.

I live in Dallas / Fort Worth and I gotta say "IT'S BOOMING". But one of my biggest concerns is that we are getting flooded by people from California and their mentalities. Keep North Texas RED and don't ruin a good thing.

We moved 1 company out of CA last year, and another one will be leaving this year... about 100 people. Exporting BLUE to another state is bad bad bad. Those people have a lot of bad habits and don't know it. They don't seem to understand the high cost of BLUE...

I lived in Calif for almost 30 years and ran out of Calif in year 2000. I saw it happening back then and have never regretted leaving.

I am going to have to disagree. I think there are more people moving out than stated. I have been to Texas. There is just something I don't like about it. Yeah, no income tax, but your property taxes are one of the highest in the country. I left New York years ago. Moved to Georgia. Georgia has become liberal when it comes to taxes also. I am looking at Navada, Tennessee, Montana or the Dakotas.

Same with Idaho. It's a red state, but I've heard that Californians are moving there too. The COL is increasing because more and more people are moving there.

So all the producers are leaving California and all the takers are moving in...yeah that's a recipe for success.

They are flooding to Arkansas after Fayetteville was ranked as one of the best places to live in the US. If you’re not business friendly then stay out.

I went to California on a business trip a few days ago. I have not been there for 12 years. I did not recognize the place. Felt like a third world country. LA felt like Mexico. Filth and graffiti everywhere. Homeless people everywhere. Disgusting place to be. Food was crap everywhere I went. Got food poisoning twice.

I was down there in San Diego in the military for about a year and it was pretty nice back in the 90s. I hear it's not even recognizable anymore.

As someone who grew up in upstate NY and then moved to CA in 2006 for my career, the similarities between CA and NY are striking. In upstate NY, it is quite red instead of blue and many people complain that NYC absorbs too much of the tax revenue and attention while upstate just gets left behind in terms of jobs. The cost of living is still so affordable in upstate NY, but hardly any jobs it seems compared to other states and regions. That's just my observation. And CA can't seem to manage it's own tax revenue, just look at the current failure of the unemployment system here. Biggest tech state here, yet the unemployment system still can't allow you to upload documents, you must mail or fax them in. They had years to fix this since the 2008 recession, but no. I hope all states learn from this to make things more seamless, because history has shown there's a recession every decade now.

Taxes are through the roof! I’m still making monthly installments for my 2017 taxes which now rolled over to my 2018 balance (while on w2). Seriously don’t mind paying these taxes if I know it benefits bringing up California. But I see some people driving Mercedes and BMWs on welfare with 6 kids makes my blood boil. You can work and be responsible, cmon! Those lazy idiots should be exiled of California. Sick and tired of donating my taxes to undeserving welfare recipients

I once seen a BMW 7-series with a couple that may not be rich, with their kids riding in the back seats.

We visited LA about two years ago and went to picked up some soda at a Walmart store, that place was so disgusting and dirty that we didn't bother buying sodas. So yucky.

The ones who will suffer from this exodus will be those who can't get out of that Democrat run hell hole called NYC.

Good riddance, we need to lose more, it is overcrowded anyway.

What a shame. Those responsible for this mess that need to go to prison. Or obish the tax code once and for all.

This is completely surprising! Why would people move away from a state that charges high taxes? That doesn't make sense.

The average cost for a 1 bdrm. apt. in Orange & LA counties is $2,004.00.

I find this laughable; our houses sell within a week of listing at a huge profit.. with no problem.

Sold out in the South Bay, buying cash in NC, born and raised in the Big C, do not wish to see the C anymore.

I love living in California I would never I repeat I would never move out of California I will live in California for the rest of my life California is my home

Both my fiancee and I are retirees from middle class careers. We are 70. and in great health. We've been here since our parents brought us out here in the 1950s. We've literally seen it all happen around us as we lived our lives in the only conservative county , Orange, in Southern California. The OC has tackled homelessness aggressively, has lower county sales tax rates, and has most cities fighting the state against being labelled as sanctuaries for illegal criminals. Our population has become more racially-diverse over this time but the OC remains the county where successful people, whether multi-generational Americans like us or first generation Americans, move their families to escape the high tax, poorly-run counties around the OC. They endure the grueling commutes if necessary or move their businesses out of LA County into the OC. Of course we'd have more money to enjoy this special time of life that we've earned, believe me, the hard way. However, our kids and grandkids have yet to choose to exit the OC. If they do, we will be right behind them with tears in our eyes. We've loved this state and voted RED in every election. We're just hanging on with our high equity home and Prop 13-protected lower property taxes. We plan to enjoy the spectacular weather and tons of options for retirees during the workweek; AKA for wonderful day-trips. We will work against the Dems, as we always have in the past, until either our kids exit or God takes us out of California for even a more Golden State with him.

I left my home in LA five years ago and never looked back. Went back to collect my stuff from storage and couldn't get out fast enough in spite of the many good years I had there. It changed, got really dark and ugly in just a few short years. I love where I live now but not going to say where.

500,000 people is nothing to California. When I left back in '91, there were Over 3 million people just in greater LA.
