HIGH SIERRA | 6 MUST SEE PLACES NEAR MAMMOTH LAKES
Ойын-сауық
The Eastern Sierra region of California is a special place. Though far less popular than Yosemite National Park, the region is home to multiple hot springs, high alpine peaks, and ancient bristlecone forests with trees that have been around for nearly 5,000 years.

You asked so I'll be honest. I was expecting to see a lot more footage of the places. Instead most of the video is watching a woman in slow motion. Not my cup of tea. The shots that DID show the scenery were stunning.

Thank you Thank you ... Fortunately, beginning in 1953 I have been to every location in this wonderful video. I am now 75 and unable to travel, especially at altitude. But videos such as these are a true treasure. If you visit, Pack Out what you Packed In. (3/13/2021 12:08AM)
It's been over 25 yrs since I did major repair on hilltop, still looks awesome
Been up the 395 at least 50 times. Always something new to see. Cheers!
Absolutely stunning footage! I've going up there my entire life and think you captured it quickly, beautifully, and accurately. Fantastic video
Very beautiful nature.One can easily get addicted to that,it is very energizing.
You did a fantastic job with this video footage. Inspired me to stop and wonder about the beauty in California. 💚
This is the best way to see it. From the comfort of my own room. Thanks. The oldest trees in the world are there.so someone Sayed.
That was a fun watch - well done - thanks for sharing
That was fantastic !. Keep up the great work. An absolute pleasure to watch.
Wow, thanks for that. Really amazing
Thank you for Share this Video and some never seen before.
Really cool video! I used to liver in Bishop years ago so I was familiar with some of those places. I remember when Mono Lake was pretty much dry thanks to the city of LA, it's good to see that it has been restored to it's natural beauty. Thanks again great job.
Beautiful!
Yay! Beautiful ♥
I am lucky enough to only be about 4 hours from most any of those spots. Nice video but nothing beats seeing it in real life. Ive been all over the I395 area and i love it

Very enjoyable. As soon as I see Mono Lake, I think about that lumpy road to Bodie (ghost town). It's possible that I may have lost some dental fillings!

Great footage I spent a lot of time in Mammoth,June lakes area back in 90' -97 I worked in goldmines in Nevada that were located only a couple hours away it was the green beautiful trees and clear blue water that drew my wife and kids and myself to the area I remember my kids would swim for hours in those cold lakes horse shoe, June and I could barely stand in the water for a minute,thank you for the video brings back some fond memories
Truly beautiful & inspiring production on so many levels. You really seem to be able to extract the best from these little devices. The mix of hand held and drone footage was perfect :-)

I like to mix it up, makes the video more interesting (at least to me). I'm glad you agree, and thanks for watching!
I just came across this video and watched it 3 times. The lovely and magnificent lady walking through the Crowley Columns was perfect and through the birches at Sabrina lake was wondrously enchanting. I used to live in Mammoth and Bishop in the early 70s. 60 feet of snow we had one year and I moved down to Bishop. LOL We used to hunt rattlesnakes in the Alabama Hills for a laboratory that made antivenin. They paid $5 for every snake, but they had to be alive. We never got bit, although I'm sure we took some chances chasing them.

We who live in Mammoth Lakes, and surrounding communities ask you to leave no footprint upon your exit. We are experiencing an amount of trash, graffiti, damage, illegal fires, and camping illegally never seen before. We are experiencing a spike in Covid due to increased tourism. Please be respectful upon your visit. Rural areas remain vulnerable.

Did you get some sort of special permit to fly around the Mono Lake Tufas? I was told that drones are strictly forbidden there (so I flew north of Mono Lake instead).
@JohnConrad
6 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is prohibited. I learned this after the fact. When we arrived, the rangers were gone for the day (sunset). I didn't see any no-drone sign, checked the Hover app and it gave the all-clear. It wasn't until after posting the video I learned that they prohibit drone flights. Although they should register it as a NFZ with the FAA to make it official, I apologize for flying there. Technically speaking the parks service doesn't have jurisdiction over the airspace, and unless they register it as a NFZ it's somewhat of a "gray" area. But nevertheless I don't want to set a bad example.
@AZGeek520
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. I'm not an LEA and wasn't trying to come off as a narc, so no need to apologize to me. I agree that they don't do a good job of posting any signage, but I have heard of at least one pilot getting "fined" by the ranger(s) there. There also is an airstrip within 5 miles of the south tufa formations and I'm surprised that didn't show up on airmap.

@@JohnConrad Be advised that flying over a wilderness area is also prohibited also, be that on lands managed by the National Park Service (National Park System), U.S. Forest Service (National Forests), Bureau of Land Management (federal public lands) or U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (National Wildlife Refuges). In addition drone flights are prohibited over an lands in the National Park System. You are not familiar enough with these various classifications, as evidenced by your words "parks service." South Tufa and the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest are both on the Inyo National Forest as managed by the U.S. Forest Service. This is not a grey area at all. I'm retired from the U.S. Forest Service and have lived in the eastern Sierra for 37 years and was a "Forest Protection Officer." Saying that there weren't any "no drone" signs is not good logic. There aren't any signs saying "don't light wildfires" either. A drone operator has the responsibility to know where and under what circumstances drones can be flown. Not every regulation and United States Code can be posted on every parcel of federal, state, county or local land. Drone flights at or adjacent to wildland fires can't be signed either, yet the use of drones is extremely dangerous in such circumstances and a temporary flight restriction is not required to make drone flights illegal in such cases. There have been some near mid air collisions between drones and firefighting aircraft and the firefighting aviation has been forced to shut down on some fires when drones have been spotted. This stoppage could affect the eventual size and damage of such wildfires, possibly resulting in the loss of a structure, subdivisions and even portions of or entire towns as well as endangering firefighters on the ground who depend of aircraft resources to keep them safe. Each of the federal agencies I listed above have information on their websites that address these issues and others. I would suggest doing additional research.

I am not aware of any regulation or Forest Supervisor's Order that prohibits the landing, takeoff and operation of drones at or above the Mono Lake Tufas. From April 1st to August 1st there is a restriction on being within 1 mile of Negit and Paoha Islands and this is due to bird breeding, brooding and nesting, but as far as I know there is no restriction of drone use at South Tufa or any other tufa formations at Mono Lake. I'm not positive about any state laws that might apply to disturbing or harassing nesting Peregrine falcons who use the tops of some isolated tufas for a portion of the year for breeding, brooding and nesting.

Wonderful video. Excellent flying too.
This is truly a beautiful area. But drones are illegal in the Hoover Wilderness (your opening sequence) as well as over Mono Lake. Drone use is also irresponsible when animals are fleeing from it, as seen in this video.
Awesome! I love Mammoth, only 6 hrs from home and been there for ski seasons , Just wonder Crowley Lake and Mono Lake are very close to Mammoth-Yosemite airport , how do you get around with drone shots Beautiful video.
